Chapter 357 Lila Causes Trouble
Standing here felt like facing the whole Windsor clan.
The Windsor ancestors were all laid to rest here.
The mountains were peaceful, with endless green hills and mist enveloping the cemetery, adding a calm atmosphere to the quiet surroundings.
Resting here, the Windsor ancestors must be pretty content.
Grandma would have loved it here, too.
Soon, the Windsor family's cars rolled into the cemetery.
Marcus had slipped into a suit he hadn't worn since his younger days, perfectly pressed, with a slightly yellowed shirt that still showed traces of hand-stitched embroidery.
He waved off Brandon's help, gripping his cane tightly.
"I can still walk! I don't want Elodie to see me struggling!"
Brandon didn't push it, just had Aurora follow with a wheelchair.
Marcus had aged a lot since Lila's incident.
If George hadn't brought Emilia back for dinner the next day, lifting Marcus's spirits a bit, he might not have left his room all day.
Seeing him like this, Brandon was deeply worried but didn't know what to say.
The affairs of the older generation were beyond his control.
Brad had arranged the prayers, gathering everyone to recite the Bible.
From afar, Aurora saw Catherine and Alexander walking hand in hand, and her eyes stung a little.
She looked at Elodie's loving smile on the tombstone.
"Mom, we never met, but I'm your daughter-in-law! Thanks for taking such good care of my Catherine!"
"We didn't get the chance to meet, but don't worry, I'll take good care of the family!"
Aurora knew that without Elodie's unconditional love, Catherine might never have had the chance to return to the Windsor family.
Thinking about the tough times Elodie and Catherine had endured, Aurora felt a pang in her heart.
Brandon quickly wrapped his arms around Aurora.
"It's okay, honey, don't let Mom see you upset. Isn't it great that Mom and Catherine are back? Catherine won't suffer anymore!"
The couple held each other, crying uncontrollably.
Brad, with one arm bare, showing off his strong muscles, wore a robe that looked quite sacred.
"Just kneel where I've set it up."
This was the first time the Windsor family prayed for Elodie.
According to Marcus, it had to be done with the highest honor, to make Elodie happy.
Catherine's gaze was calm, fixed on the eternally gentle Elodie in the photo.
Suddenly, she felt the space beside her sink, and turning her head, she found Alexander by her side.
"You don't have to, this is a family thing..."
A few days ago, when praying for Alexander's mom, Catherine hadn't knelt with him.
Now, he wanted to join her in honoring Elodie?
Alexander quietly took Catherine's hand, enveloping it in his warm, strong grasp.
His gaze was firm, his expression solemn and respectful.
"When I visited Grandma at Cloudscape Villa, I had already knelt. I'm happy to honor Grandma with Catherine. Can I have a place by your side?"
Catherine couldn't imagine someone as high and mighty as Alexander secretly honoring Elodie when she wasn't looking.
Cloudscape Villa was no different from an ordinary village house, with its yellow earth walls and blue-tiled roof.
Alexander's wealth could buy a ton of houses like that!
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I couldn't back then. Without a title, I had to keep it on the down-low. But now, I can do it openly!"
Catherine glanced down at Alexander's hand, noticing the watch and cufflinks she had given him. Her heart swelled with a mix of gratitude and joy.
"Yeah, you can see Grandma openly now."
Alexander's lips curled into a slight smile.
Brad recited the Bible, and as the verses flowed, the Windsor family bowed to Elodie, each bow filled with devotion.
Marcus sat silently in his wheelchair, watching, his tightly gripped cane betraying his emotions with its trembling.
After the last bow, Catherine looked up at the sky, feeling it transform into something familiar, only to dissipate before her eyes.
In that moment, Catherine understood that Elodie was truly gone.
She used to worry about her, but now she could rest easy.
Catherine had a family that loved her dearly, who cherished her, and... Alexander by her side.
Alexander turned and embraced Catherine, gently comforting her.
"It's okay, Grandma knows you're doing well, and she'll be happy."
Catherine's voice was muffled, her eyes moist, as she recalled moments with her grandma.
"Yeah, Alexander, I don't have Grandma anymore."
She no longer had Elodie.
Once, Elodie was the only one in the world who loved her unconditionally, but now she had many more people.
"Grandma used to be my only family, now... I have many family members, and I have you!"
"I'm honored."
Watching Alexander comfort Catherine so tenderly, Aurora wiped her tears, feeling deeply gratified.
To be so considerate and attentive, it was clear Alexander truly cared for Catherine.
Feeling gratified, Aurora didn't forget to give Brandon a playful slap.
"Look at Alexander, then look at you. You weren't this attentive when you were courting me!"
Brandon felt wronged.
"How about I court you again?"
"We've been married for so many years, what's the point? You might not mind, but I find it embarrassing! Besides, I can't go back to that age!"
Brandon laughed, hugging Aurora with a sheepish grin. "Honey, you'll always be twenty in my heart, absolutely stunning!"
A piercing scream shattered the tranquility.
A woman, covered in blood and dirt, stumbled and fell at the cemetery gate, screaming.
"No! Why should Elodie be buried here? Get her out!"
Arabella followed leisurely behind.
"I'm not going in, Alexander, Juniper, honor Elodie for me, and tell her... we'll meet again soon, and we'll talk in the other world!"
"I lost track of Lila for a moment, and she ran out. I'll take her away now."
Several burly men stepped forward, lifting the delirious Lila and carrying her out of the way.
Catherine knew Arabella... must have done it on purpose.
She wanted Elodie to see Lila's downfall.
This was the hidden tenderness in Arabella's cold, stubborn nature.
Alexander apologized, "Sorry, my grandmother always speaks like that, no offense to Mrs. Windsor."
"It's okay, Mrs. Howard is a very gentle person!"
