Chapter 189 Catherine Unveils the Stone
Maurice switched the topic to Catherine, and suddenly, all eyes were on her.
Catherine lifted her head a bit, her black dress and pearl necklace making her look almost otherworldly, like she was wrapped in some untouchable mystery.
With a dismissive tone, Catherine said, "It's all junk. Not interested."
The raw materials the Hughes Family showed off were clearly subpar, just from the surface patterns. They'd only produce low-quality jade.
Logan, the so-called "King of Stone Gambling," wasn't happy with her attitude. "Who is this young lady, so clueless about the rules? Better not come out and make a fool of yourself."
Without even looking up, Catherine shot back, "I said your stuff is junk, and so are you."
In Imperia City, flaunting the title of "King of Stone Gambling" was a big deal, and neither Catherine nor Oscar was going to let it slide.
Logan was fuming! "How dare you say my raw materials aren't good? When I was gambling on jade stones, you were still in diapers!"
Suddenly, a commanding voice cut through the tension. "The Hughes Family is really bold, inviting someone without knowing his level, and that person dares to question Ms. Windsor?"
Everyone turned to see Owen, in a wheelchair, being pushed in by Paloma, joining Catherine and the others.
Logan frowned. "And who are you?"
Owen didn't even bother to respond, not lifting his eyelids.
The atmosphere was thick with tension, and Anthony stood up, chuckling. "Owen, why didn't you let me know you were coming so I could greet you?"
The Hughes Family had relied on the Harrison Family to rise to prominence in the early years. Even if Anthony didn't like Owen's attitude, he had to show respect.
Owen glanced around. "Catherine is under my protection. Anyone who dares to speak ill of her should think twice in Imperia City. Since you claim to be the King of Stone Gambling, let's see your level now!"
The Harrison Family had a lot of pull in the antique world, and Anthony didn't dare to contradict Owen.
Anthony smiled and waved towards the stage. "Cut the stone."
Seeing Anthony being so cautious around Owen, Logan kept his mouth shut. He picked two pieces of raw material and started cutting them in front of everyone.
Alexander whispered, "Did he pick good stuff?"
"Trash," Catherine said.
Logan was super careful, only daring to cut along a thin line.
Someone in the crowd shouted, "It's green!"
Maurice and Anthony both let out a sigh of relief when they saw the green jade on the stage.
Logan, full of pride, looked at Catherine. "Ms. Windsor said everything here is trash. I wonder if this counts as good?"
Catherine frowned slightly and shook her head with disdain. "I said, just like you, everything here is trash."
What Logan had cut was just surface material. A little more polishing would show that only the surface was green, with worthless white stone underneath.
"One more cut will reveal the truth. Who are you trying to fool with such a thin layer?" Catherine said.
The Hughes Family had spent a lot on these raw materials, hoping to make a name for themselves today. If even one stone produced good material, it would be a win.
Anthony ordered, "Cut it again."
Logan gritted his teeth, convinced Catherine was just some clueless girl looking for trouble. "If this stone turns out to be good material, Ms. Windsor, you owe me an apology."
A cold laugh echoed through the room. A middle-aged man in a hoodie slowly stood up behind Catherine. "She said everything here is trash, so it's all trash."
Everyone who was into stone gambling recognized this guy!
Oscar White, the former King of Stone Gambling in Stellara!
Anthony's eyebrows twitched violently when he saw Oscar. Why would Oscar show up at the Hughes Family's stone gambling event? Anthony quickly stood up, rubbing his hands and smiling. "Oscar, long time no see."
Oscar rolled his eyes. "Long time no see, and you come up with a fake to deceive people. Anthony, you really have no shame!"
After being publicly scolded by Oscar in front of everyone, Anthony's eye twitched uncontrollably!
Oscar said, "What are you standing there for? Catherine said to cut it again. Let's see what kind of trash you picked."
Alexander suddenly spoke up, "Mr. Porter offended my fiancée. I'll remember this!"
Logan didn't expect that after years of posing as the King of Stone Gambling, he'd run into the real deal at the Hughes Family's event! His hands trembled as he continued cutting the stone.
What emerged was no longer clear green but a large chunk of opaque white stone, the least valuable kind.
Anthony gritted his teeth. "Again!"
There were only a few good pieces among the raw materials. Logan cut several more, with the best being just a small piece of ice jade.
Catherine yawned, saying indifferently, "After all, fake is fake."
With Oscar present, it would be impolite for Logan to keep claiming to be the King of Stone Gambling.
Anthony shot a furious glance at Michael beside him, his eyes almost bursting with anger.
Michael was on the verge of a breakdown, thinking, 'The so-called King of Stone Gambling I hired at great expense turns out to be a fraud? My position in the Hughes Family will be ruined!'
Logan, with a strained neck, spoke up, "I can't find good material because your raw materials are bad. If I can't find it, no one else can either! It's just bad luck! Even if Oscar tried, he wouldn't find anything good!"
Oscar sneered, "Do you think you are qualified for me to make a move? Catherine, go show them what good luck looks like."
"Alright." Catherine's stone cutting wasn't about luck.
But Logan relaxed a bit as he saw Catherine stand up, thinking, 'This Catherine clearly doesn't understand stone gambling. As long as she can't find good material, I can still get away with it.'
Maurice looked at Catherine, his eyes filled with undisguised admiration and greed, which was somewhat repulsive! "Ms. Windsor, please. Even if you can't find good stone, today's losses are on the Hughes Family. We just hope you consider being friends with the Hughes Family."
Alexander stood up and walked to Catherine's side, his gaze filled with palpable killing intent. "Mr. Maurice Hughes, even if you don't want your business anymore, you should at least consider the other members of the Hughes Family."
Maurice looked at Alexander, smiling and shrugging to hide his trembling legs.
Alexander was indeed intimidating, but Maurice couldn't help but be drawn to Catherine, who was backed by the entire Windsor Family.
Catherine bent down and casually picked up an unremarkable piece of raw material. "This one."
