Chapter 99 We Still Have Now and the Future!

Jared stared at Alexander for a while, and suddenly, a memory hit him. He remembered that night at the bar when Catherine was dancing with some guy. He even recorded a video to share with the Faceless Ones' private group.

'Who would've thought Catherine could have a fling too!' Jared mused.

"Catherine, your romantic interest is Nightfall from the Shadow Syndicate? That's wild!" Jared said, giving her a thumbs up, his face beaming with pride.

'Our leader never ceases to amaze!' Jared thought.

Alexander's lips curled into a smile, giving Catherine a knowing look.

Catherine kicked Jared and asked, "Have all the bombs in this hospital been defused?"

Jared dodged skillfully and replied, "Not yet. Ethan planted forty-eight bombs here, and I'm still hunting them down."

Talking about the bombs made Jared fume.

Last time at the bar, Ethan and Eli planted bombs everywhere, and Jared spent the whole night defusing them. He didn't even get a chance to greet the guy Catherine was with, which really ticked him off!

But now, he had another shot, and it turned out to be Catherine's fiancé. Just thinking about it got Jared all pumped up!

"Hey, Mr. Howard, I'm with the Faceless Ones. After you and Catherine tie the knot, we'll be your joint marital property! Take good care of us!" Jared said.

Catherine couldn't help it and kicked Jared in the back, saying, "If there's one bomb left after half an hour, I'm docking a month's pay."

"You're so heartless!" Jared whined.

Thinking about his already shrinking paycheck, Jared shed a tear, greeted Alexander, and went off to defuse the bombs.

Alexander called out, "There are some bomb disposal experts in the Shadow Syndicate. Go with them."

"You're the best!" Jared said.

Catherine looked over indifferently and said, "Fifteen minutes. If you defuse fewer bombs than the Shadow Syndicate, I'm docking a year's pay."

'A year's pay! I barely make enough as it is!' Jared thought as he left, now carrying the weight of competing with the Shadow Syndicate in bomb disposal. He was starting to hold a serious grudge against them!

Alexander unwrapped a medical mask on the table and carefully put it on Catherine.

He was half a head taller than her, so he had to bend slightly when speaking, making his voice seem to come from his chest. "Do you also have a competitive streak with my people?"

"It's necessary. You wouldn't want the Shadow Syndicate to be weaker than the Faceless Ones, right?" she teased.

Alexander smiled, reached out, and tucked Catherine's hair behind her ear. "Of course, but I just think that people who are too weak can't protect my fiancée. The Shadow Syndicate was created for self-preservation and later to protect those I care about. The Faceless Ones should be the same, right?"

"Yeah, the same."

People like them, who often operated in the most dangerous international zones, were surrounded by blades, desolation, and bloody crimes.

Catherine created the Faceless Ones initially to protect those she rescued from the Galactic Aurora Collective.

She was once a member of the Galactic Aurora Collective herself. They were saving themselves and protecting the family they wanted to protect!

The year she was captured by the Galactic Aurora Collective, she managed to save herself and learned various skills from its members. When Catherine got back to Elodie, she made a special potion to cover all the assassin marks on her hands so Elodie wouldn't worry.

Elodie didn't say a word, just hugged her tight, repeating how glad she was that Catherine was back.

During that time, no one but Elodie even looked for her!

Oliver and Celeste didn't care about her safety at all. So much so that when she returned to the Galactic Aurora Collective multiple times later, no one had a clue what she was up to outside.

Catherine glanced at her hands and smiled wryly under her mask, thinking, 'At least I protected Elodie and will have more family to protect in the future.'

Sensing her shift in mood, Alexander held her hand, wrapping it in his warm palm. "Let's not dwell on the past. We have now and tomorrow. Don't be sad."

'How does he know I'm thinking about the past?' she wondered.

Alexander looked into her eyes, seeing only his reflection, which made his heart swell with satisfaction.

He picked up a mask and handed it to her. "Please, I can't see my own face."

Catherine took the mask, thinking, 'Even if he can't see his own face, there's a mirror in this office. Can't he use that?'

But with his expectant gaze on her, she had no choice but to take the mask and carefully put it on him.

"Let's go. Ethan's brother's ward is next door. Right now, it's just Ethan and his brother," he said.

Catherine followed Alexander into the ward. Ethan was sitting by the bed, peeling an apple for the middle-aged man lying there.

Hearing the door, Ethan immediately stood up, pointing the fruit knife at them, full of suspicion.

Ignoring him, Catherine walked straight to the man on the bed and said, "Extend your hand."

The man on the bed had a pale face, his lips an abnormal black-purple color. He extended his hand towards Catherine.

Ethan was shocked, thinking, 'I've been on high alert, but I don't feel any threat from this woman!'

"You!" He raised his hand, intending to pull Catherine away, but Alexander grabbed his wrist.

Alexander stared at Ethan, coldly saying, "Ethan, since you want to see Phantom Doctor Moon, you can't be so rude."

"She is Phantom Doctor Moon?" Ethan asked.

"Since you have so many people nearby, don't you know if anyone is approaching?" Alexander said.

Ethan reluctantly withdrew his hand, only to find that the place Alexander had grabbed lost all feeling!

'Among those I've fought, only one person has such terrifying strength and killing intent!' Ethan thought.

"You are Nightfall! Since Moon is here, I will agree to your conditions, but I don't understand why you want the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage?"

One of the conditions for treating his brother was for Ethan to hand over the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage.

Alexander sneered, standing between Catherine and Ethan, not giving him any chance to get close to her. "It's cold, and my fiancée is shivering. I just need someone to make a human fur coat for her. The rest can be used as decorations. What do you think?"

'Human fur coat?' Ethan's eyes widened.

"Are you kidding me? You went through all this trouble to get someone just to make a fur coat?" Ethan asked.

"Do you not know if I'm joking?" Alexander sneered.
