Chapter 174 Juniper's Identity Exposed
Jacob's always been a pretty cautious guy. In his story, Juniper ended up with the Windsor Family purely by chance. With so many kids in the orphanage, why Juniper? Catherine wondered.
Jacob clenched his jaw. "Yeah, it was just a coincidence."
"I looked into all the kids who left Angel's Haven Orphanage that year, and you just happened to pick the brightest and smartest one. Quite the coincidence," Catherine said.
Jacob's eyes darted around. "Alright, fine. The kid was chosen. Someone said she was exceptional and no one would suspect her at the Windsor Family."
Catherine nodded, seeming to agree.
Juniper really did fit in with the Windsor kids—smart, beautiful, and sophisticated. It was obvious she was raised by them. When they were together, no one would doubt Juniper's identity.
"Whose kid is she?" Catherine asked.
Jacob hesitated, staying quiet for a long time. "She's doing well with the Windsors. Why do you need to dig into her identity?"
Juniper was indeed thriving with the Windsors. But she had the right to know and choose her family! Catherine had faced a similar choice and knew how tough it was to accept a new family, but Juniper deserved to know everything!
"Never mind that. Just tell me whose kid she is," Catherine insisted.
Jacob sighed and gave a bitter smile. "If I remember right, she's from the Howard Family in Imperia City."
Catherine and Alexander were stunned to learn Juniper was actually a Howard!
Timothy looked at Alexander, annoyed. "Your aunt's kid is older than you, Evander never married, and your dad has an illegitimate daughter?"
Alexander shook his head. "My parents have a good relationship."
"Really? You're not always with your dad. If he messed around, he wouldn't tell you."
Facing Timothy's disbelief, Alexander added, "Even if there's a chance of an illegitimate kid, it wouldn't be as old as Juniper."
The years Juniper was born were also when Alexander's mom had her accident. At such a critical time, his dad wouldn't betray his wife.
Jacob spoke softly. "She's Evander Howard's kid. He probably doesn't even know she exists."
Alexander was surprised. "Uncle Evander?"
Catherine pictured Juniper and Evander together in her mind. There was a certain harmony. Evander's gaze at Juniper was more affectionate than a boss looking at a subordinate! "Since we're on the topic, what happened to Evander's wife in the hospital?"
Jacob smiled and shook his head. "I can't say anything about that. I can only tell you she had a child when she had her accident. Since it's Evander's kid, it must be very smart."
Catherine looked at Jacob, searching for more clues on his face. "And earlier, when my grandma was hospitalized, what did you do to make her leave the Windsor Family?"
Timothy didn't expect Catherine's question to be about Elodie and immediately wanted to question Jacob himself!
Jacob looked at the furious Timothy. "Got any liquor? Give me a sip."
Timothy gritted his teeth, pulled a fancy flask from his waist, and tossed it over. "Drink yourself to death!"
The strong liquor burned Jacob's throat, and he coughed violently. After a moment, he sat up straight. "I didn't handle that, but I can tell you it was the previous director of Vinehill Hospital who did it. I don't know much, but Elodie didn't die and had a child. But the kid given to her wasn't the one she gave birth to. Get it?"
With the strong liquor coursing through him, Jacob got a bit worked up. "I don't know exactly what happened! All I know is that after I swapped the kids, they said it was a method used before, and doing it again wouldn't get noticed! If everything I've done comes to light, neither the Windsor Family nor the Howard Family will spare me! But God will forgive me! Everyone will forget the past! God will hear my prayers! A mother can forget her child, and a couple can forget their former lover. God will always bless his followers!"
"Love! We bring love to the world! Kids, look at us! You'll become the brightest stars in the sky!" Jacob started chanting choir hymns, like the ones the orphanage kids would sing, all chaotic and disordered.
Timothy frowned. "What is he talking about? I can't understand a word he's saying!"
Catherine bent down to pick up the bottle on the ground. Strong vodka, enough to make a sober adult dizzy. "Let's wait until he sobers up. When he wakes up, give him these pills."
Catherine took off a necklace from around her neck, opened the locket, and handed it to Timothy.
"What is this? Are you really going to save him?" Timothy asked.
Catherine looked at Timothy, helplessly saying, "He must know what happened to Elodie back then. Who else do you want to ask? Can you find the previous director of Vinehill Hospital? At the very least, Jacob must know who the previous director was."
Timothy nodded. "You're right. Don't worry, I'll make sure he lives until then!"
A subordinate ran in from outside, carrying a sniper rifle on his shoulder. "Sir, there's a bunch of idiots outside saying they're here to break someone out. What should we do?"
Ironclad Jail was boring every day, so having someone come to break in was considered a bit of fun! The subordinates outside were all going crazy with excitement!
Timothy kicked him and angrily said, "From now on, ask my granddaughter about prison matters! I'm already this old. From now on, the prison is Catherine's!"
Catherine glanced at him lightly. "I don't want it. It's bad luck."
Timothy immediately put on a fawning smile. "Right. I'll take care of it for you for now! This prison may not look good, but it's very useful! Look at how to deal with those people trying to break in. Feed them to the sharks or fill them with cement?"
"If they die, Jacob will never speak again in his life," Catherine said.
Timothy slapped his forehead. "I'll go check it out first. Don't let those subordinates outside kill them directly!"
Timothy ran out of the prison quickly.
Catherine looked at Alexander beside her. "What do you think about the stuff with Juniper?"
If Juniper really was a child of the Howard Family, the Howard Family had the right to know about it.
"I plan to tell Evander and see what he decides," Alexander said, thinking, 'Felix is old. If he hears this news, he'll probably rush to Tranquil County immediately, which will definitely scare Juniper.'
"I will tell Juniper. She has the absolute right to know about this. No matter what she chooses, she is my family," Catherine said as she looked at the recording file on her phone and chose to send it.
Alexander looked at her and chuckled. "Don't worry, although I'm also very surprised, if she really is a child of the Howard Family, Felix will definitely like her. There isn't a single girl in this generation of the Howard Family."
"That would be best."
Tranquil County.
Brandon, along with Aurora and the four sons of the Windsor Family, stood on a hill waving at Juniper. "Juniper! We're here!"
Juniper was still wearing her lab coat, completely surprised that her family had all come to see her, wondering if the incident in the lab last time had scared her family. "Mom, Dad, why are you all here?"
"To see you! Your lab is so high up. Your mom and I are exhausted," Brandon said.
Juniper quickly went up to support Brandon. She received a file from Catherine on her phone and opened it happily. "Catherine must be missing me."
After listening to the contents of the file, the whole family stood there in shock about Juniper being actually a child of the Howard Family, and specifically, Evander from the Howard Family!
