Chapter 308 Paloma Recognizes Juniper
Paloma's face was streaked with tears.
Owen quickly tried to comfort her, hoping to keep her from getting too emotional.
"Okay, okay, I'll get someone to do the test right away. You need to rest and take care of yourself. Your health is the most important thing."
Owen had spent half his life's fortune to find Juniper and couldn't bear the thought of losing her again in his old age. He didn't dare tell Paloma that the paternity test had already been done, fearing she would become too emotional.
Paloma's gaze was cold, her almond-shaped eyes strikingly beautiful.
"Dad, have you already done the test? I overheard you talking to the lawyer about transferring all your assets to Juniper."
Owen felt he owed Juniper and had contacted the lawyer to divide his assets after seeing the paternity test results.
Seeing Owen's hesitant expression, Paloma knew she was right.
Juniper... was indeed her child!
With difficulty, she moved her hand to grasp Juniper's, giving it a reassuring pat.
Paloma spoke calmly, "I heard it, but I thought I misheard. Since that's the case, all my belongings should also go to Juniper. Let's get the lawyer here."
Juniper shook her head repeatedly.
"No, no, that's too much. I don't need money. The government provides me with a substantial research grant every year, and my grandfathers on both sides also give me dividends. I'm very wealthy!"
"It should belong to you anyway. I heard Dad talking about it while I was lying down. The Harrison family might not last much longer. Those things are fleeting, but it's the only way I can make it up to you."
All these years, her child had grown up!
She was so beautiful, but because of her own mental issues, she hadn't known of her existence all these years!
Paloma held back her tears painfully, refusing to cry in front of Juniper.
"Take it, please? It's all my fault. I didn't protect you..."
Juniper shook her head, burying her face in Paloma's hand, wetting it with her tears.
There were tears, but also warmth.
"I remember when you were born, but someone took you away from me. Who was that person..."
Paloma frowned slightly, clearly unable to recall who had taken her newborn child away.
"I can't remember. The hospital was engulfed in flames, a massive fire. Someone helped me leave the hospital, and when I opened my eyes again, I was at home."
Seeing her painful frown, Owen felt a deep ache in his heart.
"Alright, if you can't remember, let's not think about it. Just rest well. Juniper and I are here with you."
Owen's old eyes were filled with tears. He never thought Juniper would regain her memory one day!
Paloma held Juniper's hand tightly, unwilling to let go, as if every glance was precious.
Her pale lips trembled slightly, wanting to say something but swallowing it back.
Juniper gently asked, "What do you want to say? I haven't had work recently, so I can come see you often."
"Can you... call me Mom?"
Juniper gazed at Paloma, who was lying on the hospital bed. Her expression was unexpectedly calm, but the tears in her eyes and the trembling of her hand revealed her emotions.
She was probably afraid of being rejected!
After all, from Juniper's earlier words, it was clear that the Windsor family was a good family. Juniper already had a loving and caring mother. Would she still need her?
She hadn't even protected her own child!
Juniper met Owen's hopeful gaze. Owen's health was poor, and he couldn't handle any more surprises from Paloma.
She smiled and looked into Paloma's eyes.
"Mom, I've missed you all these years, too."
Paloma's face lit up with satisfaction!
Her child was willing to acknowledge her... After all these years, this unfit mother had finally found her baby!
"Actually, I thought you didn't want me, like you abandoned me. During those years of research in the field, I saw many cases like that."
"How could I not want you? It was my fault, I forgot about you! It's my fault!"
"Don't say that. You were a victim too."
No mother would watch her child being taken away without doing anything.
When Paloma looked at her, the love in her eyes was almost overflowing. Even Evander, who was such an unreliable father, had quietly helped Juniper with many things.
"Have you met your father?"
Juniper nodded.
"Yeah, I have. Do you want to see him?"
"Not right now. I don't want him to see me like this."
Besides, Paloma didn't know how to face Evander.
It seemed like Juniper was all that was left between them, yet there seemed to be something else, making her feel complicated.
"I'm sorry, Juniper. We failed you."
"Compared to Catherine, I'm already very fortunate. Catherine's past life was so tough, I should be grateful."
"Yes, Catherine is wonderful, a good child."
Paloma's eyes were blurry with tears. She nodded slightly and, exhausted and with a foggy mind, fell asleep after a few words with Juniper.
After tucking her in, Juniper followed Owen out of the room.
Dashiell was waiting at the door, his eyes lighting up when he saw Juniper!
Juniper was tall, with a slender waist and long legs; her short hair was stylishly cut to her shoulders. Her face bore a striking resemblance to Paloma, but with more strength and determination, making her unforgettable at first glance!
Dashiell stepped forward to support Owen.
"I'll handle Tiberius's affairs properly, Grandpa. Please don't be too sad. I apologize on his behalf, and to Juniper as well. I'm truly sorry!"
"It's my fault for not raising him well. You take care of his arrangements. I'm too old to handle this, and the family's matters..."
Dashiell smiled gracefully, his apology sincere and respectful.
"Grandpa, I'll take care of the family's issues. Tiberius crossed many lines you set, and I'll handle it. As for the other businesses, I plan to give my shares to Juniper. What do you think?"
Owen looked at Dashiell.
"You three should get equal shares. I won't favor anyone."
Dashiell shook his head, "It's compensation, and it's my intention. My own company makes plenty of money, so don't worry about me."
Dashiell and Tiberius had completely different personalities.
Tiberius was obsessive and used shady methods, while Dashiell always disdained such tactics!
"It's kind of you to think that way. Don't worry, I won't treat you unfairly. You're my grandson, too!"
Dashiell mentioned meeting Brad at the airport.
"I originally hoped Mr. Thornton would come to pray, but he refused. It's a pity."
"You said Brad came to Imperia City? Arabella probably called him. It's almost the anniversary of the Mae family's child's death. When I adopted you and Tiberius, I had Brad do a reading."
Dashiell was surprised to learn that Owen had a connection with Brad and, curiously, asked, "What did Mr. Thornton say?"
