Chapter 363 Wedding Showdown: Beating the Groom and His Evil Mother

"Faye, are you out of your mind? I can't get a cab anywhere near the school!"

"Get out." Faye's voice was cold, her eyes like steel. "I didn't come here to pick you up just to listen to you trash-talk people from the Windsor family."

Only then did Lyra remember—Faye was part of Catherine Windsor's circle too.

They were, technically, family.

"Faye, you've been treated like dirt by the Windsor family for years. Now that Catherine's back, she'll be just as bad to you. I'm telling you this for your own good, I'd never hurt you…"

Faye's brows knit. "Are you assuming I have no brain, or are you just overestimating yours? The Windsor family raised me. That doesn't mean I should stab them in the back. If you're getting expelled, it says more about your own mess than mine."

"I'd rather have no friends at all than be friends with a woman who can't tell right from wrong and is full of spite."

With zero hesitation, she pulled over, shoved Lyra out, and drove off.

The only thing left was a cloud of exhaust.

Lyra let out a sharp scream, stomping her foot in fury.

Faye had barely pulled away when her phone rang. An unknown number flashed on the screen.

"Ms. Windsor, hello. This is Dashiell from the Harrison family. Do you remember me?"

"A little. Your face looked awful when that monkey beat you up."

The smile on Dashiell's face froze.

Faye pressed the record button without a flicker of emotion. "What do you want?"

"Well, after seeing you at the cemetery, I thought you were… intriguing. I was hoping I could have the honor of inviting you to dinner."

"No."

"Ms. Windsor, don't you want to improve your standing in the Windsor family? You've suffered so much there—it's heartbreaking. If you work with me, you'll become the only child the Windsor family recognizes."

Faye's lips twitched. "Idiot. With your IQ, I'm pretty sure the first person to get burned in this partnership would be me."

She hung up and, without missing a beat, sent the recording to Catherine.

Attached was a single line: [These people are scary... I'm scared...]

When Catherine saw the message, her expression shifted into something unreadable.

It wasn't surprising that Dashiell had approached Faye. What was surprising was the way Faye had handled it.

Listening to the recording of Faye's sharp, unyielding tone, and then reading that mock-innocent text, Catherine couldn't help the small smile tugging at her lips.

Juniper leaned over to take a look.

"I've been teaming up with Grandpa to put the squeeze on Dashiell's company. He's desperate. No big deal."

"Do you need my help?"

Juniper ruffled Catherine's hair with a grin. "This is nothing. Dashiell's about to go bankrupt."

Only in front of the Windsor family would Catherine be treated like a clueless little girl.

Juniper added, "As for Faye, you don't need to worry. I looked into her."

Juniper hopped off the couch, rummaged in her bag, and pulled out a USB drive. She plugged it into the laptop, and a video popped up.

Onscreen, the bride standing at the altar was unmistakably Faye. The groom's back was to the camera, his face hidden.

The groom's parents were openly demanding that the entire wedding be paid for by the Windsor family.

Cody's face darkened instantly.

"The Windsor family is rich. We have no money. After the wedding, all of Faye's assets and property will belong to our family.

"And since Faye is just an adopted daughter, she'll be expected to bear a son, serve her in-laws, take care of her husband and children. That's what a wife is for.

"And those cats and dogs she keeps? Get rid of them. They're bad luck."

The Windsor family members listening to the woman's endless tirade lost their smiles one by one.

Faye's expression hardened as she turned to the groom. "You think the same?"

"My mother makes the decisions. She's had a hard life. You should be understanding."

Faye gave a slow nod, glanced at Cody, and saw no blame in his eyes—only restrained fury and concern.

She turned back and slapped the groom across the face.

The room erupted. The groom's mother lunged to hit her, but Windsor family bodyguards poured in, pinning them down.

Faye tore the veil from her head and looped it around the groom's neck.

She shouted, "I never wanted this marriage. I only agreed to keep my grandparents at peace."

She rolled up her sleeves and started beating the groom.

The Windsor family members pretended not to see. A few younger relatives who usually didn't get along with Faye even jumped up to cheer.

They exclaimed, "That's more like it! If you'd shown this temper earlier, who would dare mess with you?"

Faye let out a long breath. "In the Windsor Villa, I've had to live under someone else's roof. And you expect me to just take it in front of scum like you?

"This is a fine party. If the Windsor family wants to pay for it, fine. But I'm not marrying this piece of trash. Either this turns into your funeral, or you get the hell out."

She yanked at the wide skirt of her gown, stepped forward in her heels, and drove her foot into the groom's thigh.

His scream was so loud it rattled the walls.

The video cut off there.

Catherine's eyes widened. She hadn't expected this side of Faye… and found it impossible to dislike.

Juniper shrugged. "The Windsor kids might have their internal squabbles, but the reason some of them picked on Faye was they thought Grandpa favored her. It's nothing serious."

"Kids fight. They just couldn't stand her meek, quiet act. But when trouble comes, they close ranks. And now that they've seen her temper, they think—yeah, that's a Windsor."

Juniper rubbed her temple. "After this, though… Faye might be done with men."

She worried Faye might turn out like Esme. She'd spent a fortune treating a few cousins to dinner just to get this video.

But after watching it, she couldn't bring herself to dislike Faye either.

Catherine thought for a moment. "Did you look into her family?"

Juniper replied, "I did. That groom? Her biological parents introduced him. Said they knew him well. Turns out they took a hundred grand from his side to sell her off."

She shook her head. "They even tried to get money from the Windsor family. Faye kicked them out too."

Hearing all this, Catherine sighed. "In that case, let's not make things harder for her."

Juniper hugged Catherine tight and planted two kisses on her cheek. "I was worried she'd give you trouble! You really are too kind, Catherine."
