Chapter 127 Catherine Once Saved Alexander

'When we first met, I totally thought he was just some broke kid who had to be a hitman and driver to get by. I even tried to comfort him, saying not to envy the rich because being wealthy isn't all that great. Little did I know, he's actually the head honcho of the Howard Group, a top conglomerate worth enough to buy people off the dark web. It's crazy that he's a hitman on the dark web too. And on top of that, he drove me to and from work like it was no big deal.' Thinking back now, Catherine found it kind of funny!

Alexander led Catherine all the way to the top floor of the mall, where Annie stood at the entrance of the shooting range, smiling and holding a velvet box. "Ms. Windsor, you look stunning today, and Mr. Howard is quite the gentleman."

'I'd be an idiot to praise Alexander in front of Catherine. After all, no boss looks good at work; they're all just capitalists! But Catherine is different. She's gentle, elegant, intellectual, and composed, practically the most beautiful princess in the world!' Annie thought.

"Annie, didn't you go out with George?" Catherine asked.

"Mr. Windsor had me follow Esme. Since she went back to Lila, I came back to work," Annie said, thinking, 'Following Esme seems easy, but only those who do it know how hard it is. Esme has done almost nothing these past two days except lie in a hotel or hang out at nightclubs. During the gaps when she left the hotel for the nightclub, I snuck into her room and swapped out the Vitality Pills she bought, almost running out of space to step. Recalling that room, Annie almost wanted to cry. In all my years in this line of work, it's the first time I've had to find something in such a messy place.'

"I've already sent the Vitality Pills to your lab. And it's a gift from Mr. Howard." Annie opened the box in her hand. Inside, a pair of exquisite couple's watches lay quietly, wrapped in luxurious velvet, each diamond sparkling. Inside the watch face, a string of inconspicuous numbers was engraved.

Catherine recognized it as a date. "What does this mean?"

Alexander picked up the watch and put it on Catherine. "It was the day I first met you. You might have forgotten, but it's very important to me."

"Our first meeting wasn't at Bright Heal Hospital?" Catherine asked.

'Of course not. It was much earlier, in Northern Myanterra, when I was on the brink of death, about to meet my mother in hell. A pair of soft yet firm hands held mine, pulling me out of the abyss!' Alexander recalled.

"No, it was this day," he said.

"I remember I should have been in Northern Myanterra at that time," Catherine said, puzzled.

Alexander held her hand, wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, and lifted the newly worn watch, aiming it at the distant shooting target.

His breath fell close to her ear, so close that Catherine could even hear Alexander's heartbeat!

"It was in Northern Myanterra. That day, you were just like this," Alexander said as he held Catherine's hand, pressed the hidden switch on the watch, and a sharp sleeve arrow shot out from the watch face, hitting the bullseye! "Just like that, you killed the enemy in front of me and saved me. If I had known then that you were my fiancée, I would never have let you go."

Alexander's voice carried a faint hoarseness, his long eyelashes brushing against Catherine's ear, and his breath and kiss fell on her cheek.

Catherine's face instantly turned red as if scalded, and an inexplicable emotion surged in her heart. "I don't remember."

"It's been ages; it's normal not to remember. It's enough that I do. The watch has three sleeve arrows. They're mostly for show, but they're handy for self-defense," Alexander said.

He had personally modified this watch. From the moment he first saw her, Alexander had been thinking of the perfect gift. He wanted to give her jewelry and diamonds, gifts for Catherine as his noble and elegant fiancée. But the watch, with its small mechanisms and his unique touch, was for Catherine as his mysterious and charismatic rival and the girl he liked!

"Do you like me because I saved you?" Catherine asked.

"No, I liked you first, and then I found out you saved me. It just made me like you more, not because of the life-saving thing." The two might seem indistinguishable, but Alexander was adamant about her knowing that his feelings for her had nothing to do with any identity from the start!

Annie, standing like a statue in the corner, had a look of disbelief. 'Alexander is really pulling out all the stops! But judging by Catherine's expression, it might still take some time for them to officially be together. When will Catherine become my direct superior? No worries, I can always switch jobs to work for Catherine. After all, the Faceless Ones will probably need a capable and smart female assistant, right?'

Catherine looked at the other watch in the box and met Alexander's suggestive gaze. She understood and took it out to put it on him. "What's special about your watch?"

"It's just an ordinary watch. If there's anything different, it's that you put it on for me," Alexander replied. He hadn't put much thought into his own watch, just hoping that every time she looked at the time, she would think of him. That way, he would be part of her life!

Thinking for a moment, Catherine took off the watch from Alexander's hand and held it. "Return the favor. I'll modify it and give it back to you."

"Okay!" Alexander tried to hide his joy, but his mouth curled up wildly.

Seeing his ecstatic expression, Catherine couldn't help but smile too. Maybe trying to get along with him wasn't such a bad thing because it would also bring her joy.

The sudden ringing of a phone interrupted them. Catherine glanced at her phone and said, "There's an issue at the gallery; I need to go over."

"I'll take you," Alexander said.

"No need, Annie can take me."

Catherine thought, 'If I remember correctly, Alexander probably has a ton of things to deal with. The fact that he can take time out to accompany me is all thanks to a misleading text from Mercury.'

"Alright, I'll pick you up tonight for dinner at home," he said.

Catherine nodded in agreement and left the mall with Annie under Alexander's reluctant gaze.

Annie was thrilled as she thought, 'Catherine asked me to take her, not even wanting Alexander. What does that mean? It practically means I am already Catherine's employee! I even feel like I can see the offer from the Faceless Ones. Alexander isn't important; what matters is having a sweet and soft boss, right?'

Catherine sat in the car, her gaze calm. "Annie, did you notice anything unusual about Esme while you were following her these past two days?"

"Let me think. Esme has been playing cards with a few people lately, but one of them wasn't her regular card partner before."

Esme was a typical spoiled rich girl, spending her time shopping, playing cards, and partying.

Annie thought for a moment and spoke cautiously, "Also, I suspect Esme might have done something not so good!"

Both Princess and Queen
