Chapter 133 Esme, Get Out of the Windsor Family!

'How did Lila end up in the ER?' Brandon wondered aloud.

"I'll head to the hospital and check on her. You guys go ahead and eat. If anything comes up, I'll call." Brandon's tone made it clear that Lila's condition wasn't looking good.

Marcus put down his fork. "What happened? Is she really sick, or is she faking it again?"

Lila had pulled the fake illness card more times than anyone could count. The whole Windsor family had been through it too many times.

Just talking about it made everyone miserable. Lila's fake illnesses had really put them through the wringer.

"The call came from the hospital's operating room. They said Lila's already in emergency care," Brandon said, thinking, 'Even though Lila and Marcus are divorced, she's still my mom. I need to be there for her.'

Marcus nodded and looked at the Windsor kids. "Aurora, you stay home and rest. Catherine, you and Alexander go. George, you too."

George was a genius doctor; one look and he'd know what was up with Lila.

Catherine pursed her lips. "George doesn't need to go. I'll handle it."

George's arm injury seemed pretty bad; he hadn't moved it at all during dinner.

For a surgeon, hands were everything. Catherine worried the trip might make his injury worse.

Marcus got it. Catherine's medical skills were top-notch, maybe even as good as George's. He knew that mastering such skills took not just talent but a ton of hard work. Catherine had probably gone through a lot before coming back to the Windsor family. Since she was willing to share a secret with him, Marcus was happy to keep it. "Just Catherine and Alexander will go. Handle it yourselves; I'm staying out of it."

Marcus didn't want to see Lila anymore, wanting to keep what little dignity he had left.

George grabbed the coat hanging behind him and thoughtfully put it on Catherine. "Catherine, I can go. Let me come with you. I'm a doctor; I can help."

Catherine shook her head and whispered so only George could hear, "Take care of your injury."

George was stunned!

'Even Charles doesn't know about my injury. How does Catherine know? Did I accidentally pull at the wound during dinner and make a face?' The more George thought about it, the more he believed Catherine was just super observant, noticing what everyone else missed! George felt a warm sensation in his heart, almost moved to tears. 'Catherine is truly an angel!'

Brandon, Alexander, and Catherine rushed to Bright Heal Hospital. As soon as they got to the operating room, they saw Esme crying uncontrollably. Anyone who didn't know better might think Lila had already passed away.

Brandon strode forward. "Esme, how's Lila?"

Esme looked up to see the anxious Brandon and Catherine behind him, and thought, 'Why did Catherine come at a time like this? She must be trying to act all filial so the Windsor family will think she's a good person.'

Esme wiped her tears and glanced at Alexander standing next to Catherine, putting on a pitiful look as she wondered, 'Why is Alexander always standing next to Catherine?'

"Dad, Grandma suddenly started talking nonsense and then fainted. I don't know what happened, and then she was taken into emergency care."

"Why did she suddenly start talking nonsense? What did she say?" Brandon asked.

Esme shook her head. "I couldn't understand. She said someone hit her, and she had wounds on her face, but the nurse said Lila did it to herself. The hospital won't let me see the surveillance footage. Dad, is someone trying to harm Grandma?"

Esme got more and more excited, thinking, 'If someone really is out to get Lila, maybe we won't have to leave the Windsor family!'

Just then, a doctor walked out of the operating room. "Mr. Windsor, Lila's condition is still touch and go. She needs to be in the ICU for a few days."

"Is my mom okay?" Brandon asked.

"She's stable for now, but her mental state isn't great. Does she have a drug dependency?" the doctor asked.

Brandon was floored. Drug dependency? What was he talking about?

"My mom's too old to be using drugs. Please take good care of her. Use the best meds and equipment. The Windsor family will cover all the costs," Brandon said.

Catherine stood to the side, took one look at Lila on the ventilator, and immediately knew what was up.

Esme looked at Brandon. "Dad, are you leaving already?"

"Yeah, ICU visits have time limits. Esme, find a hotel and get some rest. Lila still needs you to take care of her. Catherine and I will head back. Don't leave tomorrow; wait until Lila's condition improves," Brandon said.

Esme looked at Brandon in disbelief, thinking, 'They're really leaving without taking me back to the Windsor Mansion? Lila's in the ICU, and Brandon wants me to stay in a hotel by myself!'

"When Grandma gets better, she should stay at home for a while. The doctor said it would be good for her recovery," Esme said.

Brandon looked troubled. "Esme, my parents are divorced. It's not appropriate for them to live together again. You go rest; you've worked hard."

Esme felt like she'd been struck by lightning, thinking, 'Lila divorced Marcus while I was away from Imperia City! With their divorce, I have no connection to the Windsor family anymore!'

Esme wasn't ready to accept this and sat on the ground, wailing. "You can't be so heartless. Grandma Lila is your mother! If you don't care about her, how will she live?"

She didn't believe that making a scene wouldn't embarrass Brandon!

Catherine looked at Esme and said calmly, "When you gave Lila Vitality Pills, did you not think this day would come?"

Esme was stunned, wondering how Catherine knew about the Vitality Pills. "You're talking nonsense. Vitality Pills are good. Catherine, even if Grandma doesn't like you, you can't falsely accuse me like this!"

Catherine looked at her calmly and took out her phone to show a video. In the video, Esme was seen giving Lila a pill and repeatedly telling her that she was the only daughter of the Windsor family. "Grandma, you have to do something for me. I don't believe that after you end up in the ICU, Marcus won't soften..."

Watching the video, Brandon was furious!

He slapped Esme across the face and shouted, "You ungrateful wretch! Your grandma loves you so much, and you still harm her. From now on, you have nothing to do with the Windsor family! Catherine, let's go!"

Esme clutched her face, thinking it was all over! Just because of a video that Catherine somehow got, Brandon was going to kick her out of the Windsor family!

Back at the Windsor Mansion, it was already late at night.

Brandon rushed into the study to find Marcus, leaving a blur behind.

Catherine met Alexander's amused gaze and felt a bit helpless.

"I'd really like to visit your room. Is that okay?" Alexander asked.

"If I say no, will you still go?" Catherine said.

"Of course not."

Her room was elegantly simple. Except for the pink curtains that Aurora had carefully chosen, the rest of the furniture was selected according to her own taste.

Moonlight spilled onto the balcony, creating a warm atmosphere inside.

Alexander wrapped his arms around Catherine's waist from behind, resting his chin on her neck. His warm breath enveloped her, and she could even hear his heartbeat.
