Chapter 91 Marcus's Divorce
"Come on, who’s scared of you? I whooped your butt back in the day!" Marcus sneered.
Felix heard that and rolled up his sleeves, charging at Marcus. "And you got the guts to bring up the past? You promised to take care of her, and look what happened! If I’d known, I wouldn’t have stepped aside back then!"
Talking about the past got these two old men all riled up, neither one backing down.
"Even if you hadn’t stepped aside, she wouldn’t have even glanced your way. Wouldn’t have changed a thing!" Marcus shot back.
Felix got more and more worked up, even lifting his foot to kick Marcus. "She’s dead, and you’re at peace now?"
Marcus sat on the edge of the bed with his cane, looking all gloomy. "Peace or not, I’ll join her in heaven one day."
"Yeah, right. I might as well go first, then you won’t have to worry about it."
"Keep dreaming. Even if you go first, she won’t give you the time of day."
Felix, ready to throw down, lunged at Marcus, and the two of them started again.
The bodyguards and caregivers just stood there, too scared to step in and risk hurting them.
Alexander had no choice but to jump in and pull them apart.
Catherine was curious. They always brought up the past when they argued, but this was the first time they got so worked up.
"Who are you talking about?" she asked.
Marcus’s eyes filled with memories, and a smile crept across his face like he was back in the old days. "An old friend, not important anymore."
Felix wasn’t having it and shouted, "Marcus, how can you be so heartless? How dare you say she’s not important? She was unlucky to meet a jerk like you!"
Catherine stayed quiet.
Being called a jerk at his age, Marcus snapped, "You’re no saint! You said you liked her but married someone else!"
"I knew I couldn’t win her over, unlike you, who ditched her!" Felix got angrier. "She only liked you back then!"
"Who she liked has nothing to do with you," Marcus said.
When they were young, they both liked the same girl, but she only had eyes for Marcus.
Even though she was long gone, to these two old men, she was still sacred.
Seeing them about to brawl again, Catherine said calmly, "Anyone who fights won’t be allowed to leave the hospital."
As soon as she said that, Marcus and Felix immediately quieted down.
Whether they could leave the hospital now was all up to Catherine!
"I’ve been good, taken all the meds you gave me!"
"I took mine too. Don’t act like you’re the only one. I’ve followed all of Catherine’s orders."
Seeing the two old men trying to prove how good they’d been, Catherine couldn’t help but smile a bit.
Her eyes fell on the comic books under the bed, and she asked, "Who brought the comics? Didn’t I say they’re bad for your eyes and you should read less?"
Marcus quickly stretched out his foot to kick the comic books further under the bed.
Felix hid his game console under the blanket.
They were scared Catherine would find their toys and not let them leave the hospital!
Marcus quickly changed the subject, "Catherine, did you just come from Lila's? What did she say to you?"
Catherine glanced at Alexander standing beside her and said, "Nothing serious, just that she wants me to call off the engagement with the Howard family."
Felix shot up from the bed, eyes wide like saucers. "You didn’t agree, did you? That Lila is such a snake! Is she jealous I’ve got such an awesome granddaughter-in-law? Don’t listen to her crap. I really like you. Even if Alexander’s not good enough, I can find you a better match from the Howard family!"
Alexander just stared at Felix, speechless.
Felix kept going, still thinking about Alexander. "Sure, Alexander’s got a temper and all, but he’s good-looking and makes bank. Catherine, for those reasons alone, you should give him a shot. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll find you someone else! As for Lila, ignore her nonsense."
Catherine glanced at the speechless Alexander beside her, a smile tugging at her lips.
"I didn’t agree," she said.
Felix let out a sigh of relief and looked at Marcus. "This is your family’s mess. You deal with it."
They could see right through Lila’s intentions—she just wanted Esme to marry Alexander.
Marcus looked tired and sighed. "I get it. I ended things with her last month. But since she’s Brandon’s mom, I can’t be too harsh."
Catherine was a bit surprised.
'Marcus quietly divorced Lila? And it was set up last month. Given Marcus’s status, prepping for a divorce must’ve taken ages. He must’ve been planning this for a while,' she thought.
Felix grinned slyly. "If it weren’t for some things I can’t spill, you’d have divorced her ages ago."
Felix had been keeping a secret for so many years, it was really tough!
Marcus caught the hint and asked, "What do you mean by that? What are you keeping from me?"
"There’s a lot I can’t tell you," Felix said.
Marcus squinted, sensing something was off.
Felix realized he’d said too much, clamped his mouth shut, and happily dragged Catherine to his room to play games, thinking when he could reveal that secret, there’d be plenty for Marcus to regret!
"Catherine, that game you showed me last time, I just can’t beat it! It’s driving me nuts!"
Felix pulled out his game console and found the game Catherine had taught him last time.
He’d already set the game time, so Catherine wouldn’t find out he was sneaking in game sessions at night.
Catherine took the console, skillfully opened the background program, and clicked on all the hidden devices.
A series of numbers appeared on the screen, scrolling continuously.
Catherine’s fingers flew quickly, soon finding all the recent times the game console had been used.
"Felix, you were playing games at three in the morning," she said.
Felix’s eyes widened. "I just got up to use the bathroom!"
"For three hours?" she asked.
"At my age, constipation is normal."
Catherine nodded. "Then I’ll prescribe some suitable medicine for you, but it’ll be a bit bitter."
Felix was on the verge of tears, thinking, 'I hired pros to hide the time, and they promised to delete all traces of my gaming. How does Catherine find out so easily!'
