Chapter 212 Alexander's Little Schemes
Alexander's voice was a bit shaky.
Catherine wanted to pull her hand away but remembered Alexander's wrist was still injured. If she yanked it, it might start bleeding again, so she held back. "Alexander?"
Alexander cracked his eyes open, looking a bit out of it, but at least he was awake. "Catherine? Wasn't I dreaming just now? Why are you here?"
Catherine ignored his question. She grabbed the water cup from the bedside table and handed it to him. "Take your fever medicine."
"Okay."
After Alexander took the medicine, Catherine helped him lie back down.
His deep, mysterious eyes were now bright, tracking her every move, never looking away.
Catherine felt her cheeks flush under his gaze, suddenly remembering what Annie had said earlier. "Alexander wants to go to the Galactic Aurora Collective to dig into your past. He said if he didn't do it, you would."
'Is it because he thinks it's dangerous and wants to handle it himself?' Catherine wondered, looking at the weak Alexander in front of her. His face was pale, but his eyes were wet from the fever, staring at her with a fragile, moist look.
"I told Annie not to bother you, but she still called you. Sorry to interrupt your good dream," he said.
"Why didn't you want me to come?"
Alexander reached out and touched Catherine's face. His whole body was burning from the fever, and his palm was hot against her cheek. "Catherine, tell me, do you worry about me?"
He hoped Catherine cared about him but didn't want her to be distracted by him. Yet, seeing her, he wanted an answer.
Alexander squinted slightly, a tender smile on his lips. "If I find out you don't worry about me at all, I'm afraid my heart will break."
Alexander half-joked, almost like he was talking in his sleep, his voice filled with exhaustion and affection.
Catherine's eyelashes fluttered as she gently pushed Alexander back under the covers, whispering, "Just sleep."
As the medicine kicked in, whether it was fatigue or happiness that came first, Alexander's lips curled up as he thought, 'Catherine might be a tad worried about me!'
Catherine frowned slightly, looking at the sleeping Alexander.
'Why do I feel like Alexander's fever isn't from the wound but from catching a cold? His wound isn't infected; the high fever seems more like it's from getting wet. Annie's injuries are clearly more severe.' Catherine was still pondering when she felt her hand being held by Alexander, who left a burning kiss in her palm.
"Good night," Alexander said.
Catherine quickly pulled her hand away, yanked the blanket over Alexander's face, and clumsily left the room!
Annie, who had just left the Howard Mansion, glanced in the direction of Alexander's room. "I wonder if Catherine will figure out that Mr. Howard got a fever from such a small injury? Probably not!"
After all, the wound was real; the process was just a bit more complicated. The result was the same.
The next morning.
Catherine yawned as she went downstairs, seeing Aurora holding Emilia with a loving smile.
Aurora saw the burn marks on Emilia and tears of heartache fell. "Does it hurt? Don't worry, I know several plastic surgeons who can definitely help you!"
"It's okay. George said he could fix it," Emilia said.
George, who had just come downstairs, almost tripped when he heard that, barely catching himself on the last step.
Philip looked puzzled. "Since when did you start studying burns? Did you switch your research focus?"
George tried to play it cool and cleared his throat. "Prof. Davis has done some work on it, so I picked up a few things from him."
Aurora, hearing that Gavin had a solution, felt relieved. "That's great! Prof. Davis is amazing! Emilia, you should stay with us for now. I'll whip up something delicious for you!"
The rest of the Windsor Family didn't seem to find Emilia's presence unusual at all.
It was like Emilia being at the Windsor Family table was the most natural thing in the world.
But the Windsor brothers' expressions changed when they saw Alexander at the table.
Especially when they saw Alexander, with his bandaged wrist, having Catherine serve him food, their eyes turned a bit strange.
Philip couldn't help but grit his teeth. "Mr. Howard, since you're not well, you should be resting in the hospital."
Brandon smacked him. "What's wrong with Alexander having a meal here? You talk too much! Alexander, don't mind him. Eat up. How did you get hurt?"
Alexander took the porridge Catherine served him. "Thanks, Catherine. And thank you for your concern, Mr. Windsor. I got injured while inspecting the project team, nothing serious."
Felix looked at Alexander and chuckled. "Since you're injured, don't go to the company for the next few days. The company will run just fine without you. Stay home and keep Catherine company!"
'I've been annoyed with Alexander always working and not spending time with Catherine! Now I finally have an opportunity,' Felix thought.
Marcus smiled at Felix. "Alexander works hard. Go help Alexander at work for a few days!"
"Why should I go to work? I'm too old for that!" Felix snorted.
Alexander saw Marcus winking at him and smiled. He deliberately said to Felix, "Grandpa, I still need to attend meetings and sign contracts."
Felix said, "What contract requires you to be there in person? I'll handle it for you! I don't believe anything can go wrong with me there!"
"Thank you, Grandpa," Alexander said.
Felix realized belatedly that he had agreed to help Alexander at work, wondering if he was really going to work at the company at his age.
But seeing Alexander's pale face, Felix felt sorry for him, thinking that having managed the Howard Group for years, going to work to sign contracts and handle procedures wasn't a big deal.
Philip looked at Alexander, his temples throbbing. "Mr. Howard, you didn't injure both hands. You can still feed yourself, right?"
'Why does he need Catherine to feed him?' Philip thought, feeling heartbroken just looking at the scene!
Alexander innocently smiled at Philip. "Eating with my left hand is inconvenient, so I have to trouble Catherine."
'Inconvenient? I clearly remember when I went to the Howard Group to discuss cooperation, Alexander signed with his left hand! A person who can write with his left hand is telling me it's inconvenient to eat?' Philip thought.
With Alexander being a patient, Aurora glared at Philip. "Don't cause trouble! Eat your food!"
Alexander took the spoon from Catherine's hand. "I can do it myself. It wouldn't be good if I affect your meal."
"Okay, call me if you need anything," Catherine said.
Philip rolled his eyes, thinking, 'Alexander is definitely doing this on purpose! My pure and innocent sister has been deceived by Alexander, that big jerk!'
