Chapter 155 Poaching Alexander's Allies in Person
Juniper barely had a moment to think when the lab door swung open, and in walked Evander with a bunch of people.
Evander glanced around and sneered, "I step out for a meeting, and the lab turns into a circus! Theron, Caius, you two really outdid yourselves!"
As the head honcho of Phoenix Lab, Evander had that natural leader vibe and an air of authority. He was followed by a group of SWAT officers who moved in and cuffed Theron and Caius.
Keeping his cool, Evander addressed everyone. "This is serious. I've called in the investigation team. Put your experiments on hold and cooperate. If anyone's involved, I won't go easy on you!"
Evander was fuming inside. 'This mess happened in my lab, and another lab reported it. I was showing off our research at a meeting when I got the latest video. All the top scientists saw it. I couldn't stop it and had to watch the whole thing! Now these two are infamous, and Phoenix Lab's reputation is in the gutter!'
Watching Theron and Caius get hauled away, Evander was boiling with rage.
After sorting things out, Evander walked over to Juniper and gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You've been through a lot. Take a break for a few days. Oh, and introduce me to your sister."
Juniper looked suspicious. "Sir, it's no big deal that I've been through a lot, but why do you want to meet my sister? You're over fifty, don't tell me..."
She eyed Evander with a mix of disdain and suspicion, like he was up to no good.
Evander couldn't help but give her shoulder a playful slap. "Do you think I'm being nice to you just because you've had a rough time? What's wrong with meeting my nephew's future wife? Stop overthinking!"
He pulled out his phone and showed Juniper a photo of himself with Felix. In the picture, Alexander stood next to Evander, and they all looked like one big happy family. If observed closely, some family resemblance could be seen.
Juniper rubbed her shoulder, staring at the photo with her mouth wide open. "Sir, there's a rumor that you're from a wealthy family. So, the Howard family is the rich one? Why are you doing research?"
'Wouldn't it be better to go back and take over the family business? Isn't the Howard family rich enough, or is research not challenging enough for Evander?' Juniper wondered.
Evander put his phone away and said with a hint of mystery, "Isn't the Windsor family's daughter also doing research?"
Juniper pouted, feeling a bit let down. "We're different."
Her eyes widened as she realized something. "Wait a minute! Sir, are you not the biological son of the Howard family either?"
"Of course, I am. I mean, research is my passion. You wouldn't get it. Now, take me to see your sister!" Evander had given the lab a break and rushed back just to meet Catherine.
"Alright, follow me. But don't mention the lab incident to Catherine. I don't want her to worry."
Evander walked alongside Juniper, nodding. "But Mrs. Martinez already knows, and the Windsor family will definitely find out soon."
During the meeting, Grace had been sitting next to Evander. When the video played, Grace looked like she was ready to storm Phoenix Lab.
Thinking about that scene, Evander shivered!
Juniper scratched her head, trying to figure out how to explain things to her family, when she saw Catherine standing by the flower bed, talking on the phone.
The flower bed at Phoenix Lab was also used for experiments, but it was a beautiful sight during downtime. Catherine, rocking a light blue dress, stood by the flower bed, her hair tied up with a headband, showing off her elegant neck.
She held her phone, listening to Alexander's deep, magnetic voice. "When are you coming back? I miss you."
"In a few days," Catherine replied.
"Want me to come keep you company? Things are pretty slow at the office."
"No need."
'Just looking at the schedule Annie sent me, I can tell how swamped the Howard Group is. They've acquired three multinational companies back-to-back. The finance team probably hasn't had a break in ages. And he says he's got nothing to do? Plus, Annie mentioned he hasn't eaten all day and has been stuck in meetings,' Catherine thought.
Juniper walked up and hugged her. "Catherine, have you been waiting long? Who are you talking to? Let me introduce you to our boss, Evander Howard."
Catherine met Evander's gaze and nodded politely. Just as she was about to speak, Juniper whispered in her ear. "Evander's Alexander's uncle. He wanted to meet you. I thought he had other intentions. The Howard family doesn't seem like good people. If you don't like Alexander, I can find someone better for you in the lab, but they probably don't deserve you!"
Catherine's mouth twitched, about to remind Juniper, when Alexander's cold voice came through the phone, "Juniper, good people wouldn't try to steal my fiancée right in front of me."
Juniper jumped back like she'd been shocked. "Catherine, why didn't you tell me you were talking to Alexander?"
Catherine smiled helplessly at Juniper. When she was in the lab, her voice and speaking habits changed a bit, so Juniper probably didn't recognize her. Catherine spoke softly to Alexander. "Sorry."
"It's okay. Your family has said things like this before. I'll wait for them to accept me. Evander is indeed my uncle. If you have any trouble there, you can find him," Alexander said.
"Okay."
Alexander reluctantly hung up and picked up the internal line in his office. "Annie, get me info on all the researchers at Phoenix Lab, especially the single guys!"
"Mr. Howard, have you changed your type? What about Ms. Windsor?"
Alexander rubbed his forehead, gritting his teeth. "Do you want to take a project abroad?"
"I'll send it right away! You must be checking to make sure Ms. Windsor doesn't change her mind, right? Don't worry, your charm is unmatched! You and Ms. Windsor are a perfect match!" Annie said.
"That's more like it." Alexander looked at the documents on his desk, feeling a restless itch. Just hearing Catherine's voice made him want to see her as soon as possible.
On the other side, Evander walked up to Catherine with a warm smile. "Hello, Ms. Windsor. I'm Alexander's uncle. Can I call you Catherine?"
"Sure, as you wish," Catherine said.
Facing Catherine, Evander dropped his usual cold boss vibe. He smiled cheerfully, not wanting to scare her. "I've given Juniper a break for the next few days so she can spend time with you!"
"Okay, thank you."
"You're welcome! If you run into any problems in Tranquil County, come to me!" Evander said.
Catherine nodded, watching Evander leave with a satisfied look.
'This Catherine is perfect—beautiful, confident, and poised, a perfect match for Alexander! And hearing Alexander, who usually has a cold demeanor, talk to her so affectionately, it's clear he's head over heels,' Evander thought.
