Jared could barely keep his excitement in check as he watched the video.
Jared: [The Hughes family will be very shocked when they see this video! I can't wait!]
The video captured every worker's face and their exact words. If the Hughes family didn't want to mess things up with the Windsor family too soon, they'd probably cough up the cash.
Jared: [Miss, you're really going all out with this extortion. Even if the Hughes family pays the three hundred million, it's gonna take them a while to bounce back. That kind of money isn't easy to come by.]
'The Hughes family's supply chain has been a mess lately, and they don't have much cash on hand.' Jared thought Catherine was really ruthless! 'But Catherine even tricks her own fiancé. It's said that all the equipment for Moon Laboratory was provided by Alexander. I suddenly have a lot of respect for Catherine! She's really putting in the work for the organization!'
Catherine: [They'll pay. Compared to ticking off the Faceless Ones and the Windsor family, three hundred million is a steal.]
Jared was almost moved to tears, thinking, 'What a sweet deal! If the Hughes family misses this chance, they won't get such a good price again!'
Jared agreed and sent the video to the Hughes family that night.
The next morning, Catherine came downstairs to find the living room packed with gifts. Boxes of all sizes were piled up, leaving barely any room to walk. Expensive nutritional supplements were stacked up, and at the front was a box of fist-sized pearls, like the ones auctioned off last year.
Seeing Catherine come down, Aurora beamed. "Catherine, take a look and see what you like. Pick something, and I'll have someone bring it up to you."
"Why are there so many things?" Catherine asked.
"They said it's an apology gift from the Hughes family, probably because Michael Hughes caused a scene at the gallery yesterday?"
Aurora thought about yesterday's incident and felt Michael was a bit out of line. But the Hughes family sent so many gifts the next day to apologize. Since the two families had a lot of business dealings, it was best if they could both take a step back.
Marcus was sitting at the dining table reading the newspaper, his scrutinizing gaze falling on the pile of gifts. "Just for yesterday's incident, they sent this many gifts? The current head of the Hughes family has some sense."
Marcus had a sharp eye. He could tell that for yesterday's incident, today's gifts were over the top. The Hughes family could've easily brushed it off as a minor squabble between kids. Even if they wanted to send gifts, there was no need to send so many. "There's probably something else going on. Have Brandon look into it."
Aurora laughed. "Dad, you're probably overthinking it. Brandon already checked yesterday and found nothing else."
Catherine's gaze swept over the pile of gifts as she thought, 'The Hughes family is probably trying to preemptively strike because of the video from last night. Now they are testing the Windsor family. If the Windsor family knew about that incident, these gifts wouldn't even make it into the house; they'd be thrown right back in the Hughes family's faces. Since the gifts are accepted, it proves that the Windsor family indeed doesn't know yet.'
"Mom, I'm heading to the gallery," Catherine said.
"Don't work too hard. I know you're amazing, but don't overdo it, okay?" Aurora looked at Catherine with a pleased expression, thinking, 'My precious daughter is simply amazing! Yesterday, when I went to play cards, all the other ladies looked at me with envy. Whose sons and daughters are as outstanding as mine?'
Catherine nodded, left the house, and headed straight to the car parked out front. She opened the door and got in.
Jared, munching on a sandwich, said, "Miss, the Hughes family agreed to pay up, but they want to meet us in person to hand over the money."
'Hand over the money in person? They just want to deal with us face-to-face. With such a big leverage in the hands of the Faceless Ones, the Hughes family isn't sure when we might hand the video over to the Windsor family. If we want to double-dip, the Hughes family would just have to suck it up!' Catherine thought.
Jared sneered, "I think making friends is just a front. They want to rope us into working for them. Plus, they probably want to threaten us. The Hughes family is really cunning. Miss, should we meet them?"
Catherine's expression turned icy. "No. Tell them if they try any tricks, the price goes up to five hundred million dollars. If they short us by even a penny, the video goes to the Windsor family, along with some extra footage the Hughes family hasn't seen."
Jared chuckled, thinking, 'The Hughes family trying to mess with Catherine is like hitting a brick wall.'
"Miss, are you going to the gallery today?" Jared asked.
"Go to a bank first."
'The things Elodie left for me are in that bank, and I have to go check them out. No matter what Elodie has left, I will take good care of it. Elodie chose a large international bank. It happens to be the Windsor family's Evergreen Bank, and the safe deposit box is located in Imperia City. When did Elodie come to Imperia City to store things? I have no idea. It must have been when I was out on missions with the Faceless Ones, not by Elodie's side.' Catherine thought.
Jared parked the car in front of Evergreen Bank. Just as Catherine was about to get out, the door was opened from the outside.
Michael stood there with a smile on his face, but his eyes were scrutinizing Catherine. "Ms. Windsor, we meet again. Seems like we're destined to be friends."
Catherine's gaze fell on Michael's face. The marks of five fingers were still visible, even after applying ointment and icing. It was clear that the slap had been quite hard.
"Didn't you look in the mirror before you left? If your face scares people outside, it wouldn't be appropriate," she said.
Michael's smile froze as he thought, 'I just got home yesterday and received a solid slap on the face. It took a whole night of icing to get better! How did she notice it right away? Even if she noticed, she said it out loud in front of so many people, showing me no respect at all!'
"Do you always speak so bluntly?" he asked.
Catherine said calmly, "With your intelligence, if I'm not direct, I'm afraid you won't understand."
Michael couldn't smile anymore.
'Catherine is simply impervious! But if I can establish a close relationship with Catherine, whether it is the Hughes family or the Windsor family, it will all be mine!' Just the thought of immense wealth made Michael's heart burn with desire. "Catherine, since we are fated to meet, how about having a meal together?"
Catherine frowned at Michael. "Are all the Hughes family members shameless? Or is it just you? I tell you to get lost, can't you hear me?"
