Chapter 273 Arabella Kicks Over Franklin
Catherine was caught off guard by the question, and Alexander, standing nearby, started to feel a bit uneasy too.
Arabella frowned at Catherine. "It's just an engagement. It doesn't mean anything. If you're not sure, just call it off."
Alexander frowned and said, "Grandma!"
He regretted letting Arabella and Catherine meet.
Arabella slapped the table, her eyebrows raised as she glared at Alexander. "Shut up! Did I ask you to speak? No respect at all! Get out of here!"
Arabella didn't take the engagement seriously, knowing exactly what kind of person Alexander was.
Catherine thought for a moment and answered honestly, "I don't plan to marry him right now, but that's because I don't plan to marry anyone at the moment. I don't dislike Alexander; we're friends."
Alexander breathed a sigh of relief, thinking as long as Catherine didn't dislike him, he still had a chance.
"Not too dumb. If you were planning to get married at such a young age, I'd look down on you. Your grandma would be so mad she'd come out of her grave to knock some sense into you." Arabella applied hand cream as she harshly criticized Alexander. "Alexander's personality is better than his dad's and his granddad's. He's not dumb or cowardly. But if he wants to get a wife, he needs to face some hardships. Men never cherish what they get too easily."
In Arabella's view, Catherine was still young, and if she planned to marry Alexander before turning twenty, she must not be very bright.
"You knew my grandma?" Catherine asked.
"Isn't she Elodie? When she was young, she was Felix's sweetheart. Elodie didn't even fancy anyone from the Howard Family. If you fall for Alexander so easily, I'd look down on you." Arabella squinted, her face wrinkling, her thin lips showing a bit of a strange harshness. "Back then, whether it was Felix, Marcus, or Franklin, they were all just passing figures around Elodie. Too bad they were all like flies, buzzing around only to be swatted away."
Catherine didn't know much about what happened to Elodie back then and couldn't comment on Arabella's words.
Evander looked at the fried chicken and cola on the table and frowned. "Mom, is this what you're having for breakfast?"
Arabella raised her cold eyes. "How old are you?"
"Me? I'm fifty." Evander replied, puzzled.
"I'm seventy-six. You might not even live to my age if you don't eat anything. Mind your own business, and you might live a couple more years." Arabella said.
Evander's mouth twitched and he was unable to say a word!
Juniper stifled a laugh and gave a thumbs up. "Grandma, you're amazing!"
Arabella smiled and handed something to Juniper. "I'm going fishing. You guys carry my stuff."
The Howard Family owned a resort, just half an hour away from Starry Residence.
A seventy-year-old lady going fishing at a resort might sound impressive, but for Arabella, it was quite normal.
As she helped Arabella into the car, Catherine checked her pulse.
Arabella, being sharp, looked at Catherine's serious profile, her delicate face showing a bit of charm, especially her stunningly beautiful eyes.
"Is there something wrong with my health?" Arabella asked.
"How did you know I was checking you?" Catherine asked.
"I'm not so far gone that I can't feel someone checking my pulse."
Catherine had gotten used to Arabella's sharp way of talking. Even though her tone was biting, she wasn't actually mean.
"Have you been sleeping poorly lately? It seems like you stay up really late every night," Catherine asked.
"I'm fine. I just look at handsome men on my phone before bed. I sleep well, just a bit late."
Catherine was momentarily speechless. "Do you often have headaches?"
"Yeah, every time someone from the Howard Family calls me, I get a headache. But I can't ignore them, or they'll think I've died in the nursing home."
Catherine was speechless again. "Do you often feel chest tightness and shortness of breath?"
"Oh, that's just because I've gained weight with age. I can't fit into my old dresses; they feel too tight."
No matter what Catherine said, Arabella had an excuse.
Catherine smiled lightly, realizing Arabella was just trying to keep Alexander from worrying about her. She withdrew her hand and said, "You're very healthy."
Arabella smiled with satisfaction.
Juniper's mouth dropped open. "Catherine, you can diagnose illnesses? I thought you were just playing games with Marcus when you checked his health every day!"
Catherine smiled helplessly. "I'm nineteen, Juniper."
Even if Catherine was interested in playing doctor, Marcus wouldn't play along!
"But I remember George studied clinical medicine. He wouldn't check pulses. Who taught you?" Juniper asked.
Arabella raised an eyebrow. "Probably her grandma. Her grandma loved this stuff when she was young, always dabbling in it. Alright, you all be quiet now. I need to rest."
When Catherine was young, she did learn some medicine and acupuncture points from Elodie, but it was just basic knowledge.
Seeing Arabella closing her eyes to rest, Juniper didn't ask further, thinking Catherine had really had a tough life!
Juniper's mind automatically filled with images of a young, frail Catherine sitting on a field ridge, identifying herbs with Elodie to sell for money. Feeling a pang of sympathy, she picked up her phone and transferred some money to Catherine.
Seeing the sudden transfer notification on her phone, Catherine was puzzled, wondering why Juniper was sending her money out of the blue.
Juniper's note read: [Catherine, you've worked hard! Here's your allowance for the month!]
Just as Catherine picked up her phone, she received another transfer from Alexander.
Alexander's note read: [Consultation fee for my fiancée.]
When they arrived at the resort, Arabella picked up her fishing rod. "You guys go have fun. I've got an appointment. Don't bother me."
With that, she had Evander carry the fishing gear and headed towards the reservoir.
An old man was already sitting by the reservoir, seemingly waiting for Arabella.
Juniper frowned. "Isn't that Franklin? Is he the one Arabella has an appointment with?"
Catherine shook her head. "I don't know, but Arabella does seem to know Franklin."
Alexander looked down, his gaze falling on Catherine. "Is my grandma's health okay?"
"Just some basic issues: sleep disorders, mood swings, shortness of breath. I'll prescribe some medication to help."
Alexander finally felt relieved.
Arabella usually had a quirky temperament and never told the truth to her doctors.
Arabella crossed her arms and walked arrogantly towards Franklin, who was sitting by the reservoir.
Juniper suddenly widened her eyes as Arabella, without a word, kicked Franklin into the water!
