Chapter 208 Catherine, Help Me
"Miss, what have you been up to lately?" Lucy asked.
Esme's whole body ached, not just from the burns on her leg but also from being thrown by George. "I'm recovering from my injuries. Haven't you heard about the Hughes Manor fire? Why are you calling me now?"
Esme felt a pang of jealousy thinking about how the Windsor Family treated her so cruelly but were kind to Catherine and Emilia.
'Even if the Windsor Family thinks Catherine is their daughter and treats her well, what about Emilia? I've seen George speak to Emilia in such a gentle tone! Is it just because Emilia and Catherine are close? The Windsor Family never considers my feelings. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of running to the Hughes Family,' Esme thought.
"Miss, are you seriously hurt? If you don't make an effort, there will be absolutely no place for you in the Windsor Family!" Lucy said.
Esme snapped back, "When has there ever been a place for me in the Windsor Family? They don't care about me at all!"
'Whether it's the blood-related Catherine or the unrelated Juniper, they are both loved by the Windsor Family. They are so biased!' Esme thought.
"Miss, you should talk to your mom. She will definitely accept you."
'Talk to Aurora?' Esme hesitated, unsure of what to do. "Forget it. She doesn't care about me at all. She only has eyes for Catherine!"
Lucy lowered her voice. "Miss, I'm talking about your biological mother, not Mrs. Windsor. Mrs. Windsor may be blind to your worth, but your mother would never abandon you."
Lloyd had indeed never mentioned her mother! Esme's eyes lit up instantly. "You know my mom? Tell me who she is!"
"I'll give you your mother's phone number. When you contact her and explain everything, she will definitely feel for you."
Despite her pain, Esme was extremely excited. "Okay!" She put away her phone and went to the hospital where the Hughes Family members were being treated.
Before she could enter the ward, several police officers at the door stopped her. "No unauthorized personnel allowed. They are all felons. Are you from the Hughes Family?"
Esme almost bit her tongue and quickly slipped away without saying a word. She needed to stay far away from the Hughes Family to avoid getting implicated.
Inside the ward, Anthony was barely conscious but had been resuscitated and could hear the people around him. His fingers twitched as if he wanted to say something, but the tube in his throat prevented any sound from coming out.
The police read out a long list of the Hughes Family's criminal records, down to the exact dates and details.
Anthony's eyes widened instantly as he thought, 'We dealt with those issues smoothly; how could we have been exposed? Moreover, the police know everything so clearly, including all the details.'
The police, aware of Anthony's condition, put away the files after reading them and left with the doctor.
Before the police left, Anthony heard the doctor speaking. "He has a large amount of residual Vitality Pills in his system. He probably won't be able to cooperate with the investigation. He doesn't have much time left. Dying in the hospital is better than being executed."
Anthony's eyes widened in disbelief, wanting to get up and ask for clarification, but he was powerless. The shock was too much, and he fainted!
The empty air-raid shelter looked like a gaping monster, hiding countless evils in its unseen depths.
Emilia stood in front of the shelter, looking at George. Her hair was tied up high, and she handed George his jacket. "Mr. Windsor, here's your jacket. Thanks for taking care of me. I'm not going back to the hospital."
George didn't take the jacket, his expression dark. "Do you have a death wish? Do you think you're invincible? You just escaped a fire and now you're getting involved with the underworld? If you can't afford the hospital, I'll pay. You're coming back with me!"
Emilia blinked. "I've already paid for the hospital. Thanks, though."
Seeing Emilia's stubborn attitude, George felt a surge of anger but didn't know where it came from. He thought he was just too dedicated to his medical ethics, which was why he was meddling in such matters. "Fine, do as you please! Throw away that jacket; I don't want anything that's been worn by someone else."
Emilia didn't get angry. She smiled slightly, watching George get into his car and drive away.
A member of the Blade of Dusk approached her. "Miss, they said you have to win a fight in the underground arena before they'll follow you. Isn't that too much? Should we go back and negotiate for different terms?"
Although Emilia had learned some self-defense from the Blade of Dusk since she was young, fighting in underground matches was a different story.
But to gain control over the underworld, she had to use methods they respected. To those people, taking care of Emilia was one thing, but making her their leader was another.
"It's okay, I'll give it a try. At worst, I'll get beaten to death. No big deal," Emilia said.
"Miss!"
Emilia smiled, looking at the jacket in her hand. "If I still have a breath left, make sure to take me to the hospital where Mr. Windsor works. I only trust his medical skills."
Emilia's expression was calm, as if she didn't care about the matter, but also seemed determined, making others feel a bit uneasy.
The subordinate, knowing her stubbornness, didn't persuade her further and nodded before leaving.
Once they were gone, Emilia quickly took out her phone and called Catherine. "Catherine! It's an emergency! Help me! They want me to fight in the underground arena next door. I have to win for them to listen to me. I don't know how to fight! If I get beaten to death, it'll be so embarrassing!"
Catherine was silent for a moment. "Is it the underground arena near Heritage Storage Depot?"
"Yes! I'm about to die. Does the Windsor Family know anyone there? Can they go easy on me during the fight?" Emilia asked. Some people appeared calm on the surface but were actually panicking inside.
Catherine glanced at her phone, seeing a post from the underground arena specifically asking for her, with a very tempting offer. "Wait for me. I'll take you there."
"You actually know someone there? That's great!" Emilia felt relieved, knowing she would be safe.
Catherine put away her phone and looked at the sky outside. The Windsor Family had already gone to bed, and leaving through the main door would wake them.
She deftly jumped off her balcony, pulling up her hoodie to conceal herself, and disappeared into the night.
As she jumped, Alexander's face suddenly flashed in her mind. Catherine suddenly thought that having someone watching her from the balcony wasn't so bad.
