Chapter 27 Does Catherine Have Someone She Likes?
'I used to think they were just some broke folks, but turns out they've been topping the Stellara rich list for like, forever!
'Marcus is just super low-key, while Charles, George, Richard, and Philip, along with Juniper, are all total rockstars. The Windsor family is like the crown jewel of Stellara now.'
'The Howard family? Yeah, they're one of the big three rich families too.'
Alexander suddenly got all jittery, his voice shaking without him even noticing, and asked, "What if you marry into a rich family?"
Catherine's brow furrowed instinctively.
'It's not about marrying rich. I haven't even thought about marriage!'
Seeing her frown, Alexander's heart sank a bit, and he gripped the steering wheel tighter.
Catherine said coolly, "What's it to you?"
'He's not from a rich family, so why's he even asking?'
Alexander felt a bit lost, sighed softly, and a hint of self-mockery crossed his lips.
"You're right, it's got nothing to do with me," he said.
'I still have an engagement to deal with, and until that's sorted, I can't say stuff like this to her!'
'Even if I wanna take things further, I gotta wait till the engagement's off. That's the basic respect I owe Catherine!'
Catherine thought maybe she'd been too harsh and hurt Alexander.
'After all, even though he's the leader of the Shadow Syndicate, he still has to work as a driver to get by, so his family must be struggling.'
'Even though he shares the Howard name, the Howard family's wealth is something he could never reach in his lifetime.'
'Saying stuff like that is pretty cruel!'
"I didn't mean it like that. Just work hard and make money. No need to envy the rich. Their lives might not be what you think," she explained.
"You're right."
Alexander's face lit up with a smile!
He laughed softly, his deep, manly voice echoing in the small car, making Catherine's heart skip a beat.
Alexander parked the car outside the Windsor family community and leaned over to help Catherine unbuckle her seatbelt.
"You live here?" he asked.
"Yeah, for now."
According to Charles, she wouldn't be living here much longer. The best house in Starry Residence had already been transferred to her name thanks to Charles's efficient arrangements.
Catherine opened the car door and got out.
Alexander waved at her and said, "Good night."
He seemed to be smiling, and Catherine felt a flutter in her chest, hurrying into the community without looking back.
Alexander waited until she was out of sight before driving to Starry Residence.
Esme was sneakily hiding behind the bushes at the entrance. She had planned to make an impression on Brandon and Aurora but ended up seeing Catherine get out of that guy's car from earlier.
'Even the Windsor family's nanny wouldn't want this car for grocery-shopping!'
'It couldn't even get past the Windsor family community gate and had to park outside. There's still a long walk from here to the Windsor family's building, so Catherine has to hoof it back herself!'
'This guy must be from a poor background, that's why he looks so shabby!'
Esme snapped pictures of Catherine getting out of the car, even catching the sweet smile on Catherine's face as she did.
'This guy must be Catherine's boyfriend!'
'Her taste in men is so bad she even likes a driver. What right does she have to compete with me?'
Esme was in a great mood, happily walking into the Windsor family gate.
As soon as she got in, she ran to Juniper's room.
"Juniper, I think I saw Catherine's boyfriend!"
"Don't go nuts at night. You're just in time. Explain why you messed with my computer and blamed it on Catherine?"
Esme had almost forgotten about the computer data mess!
"I didn't mean to, Juniper. I know how important your computer data is. I'd never touch it! Believe me, I just made a mistake. I was just trying to clean your desk since you haven't been home for months!"
Juniper frowned, staring at her, trying to see through that thick layer of makeup.
Esme quickly changed the subject, scared Juniper would blow up.
"Look, Juniper. Catherine got out of this car both during the day and at night, and she even smiled at the guy driving! He must be Catherine's boyfriend!"
Esme spoke with confidence, and Juniper looked at her phone.
In the video, Catherine got into a car and then got out at the community gate at night, smiling at the driver.
'Could this really be Catherine's boyfriend?'
Juniper grabbed the phone, watching for a long time.
Esme was super pleased with herself!
'Let's see how Catherine handles this now!'
Juniper watched the video several times, finally holding her face with a lovestruck smile, and said, "Catherine looks so cute even when she's taking a cab!"
'Juniper must be nuts!
How could she find Catherine cute from such a short video?'
"Juniper, if Catherine has a boyfriend, what about the engagement with the Howard family? I think Catherine really likes this guy, so we can't break them up!"
Juniper smiled.
'This idiot is actually trying to meddle in the Howard family engagement!'
'Does she really think that with her intelligence and temper tantrums, she's worthy of a family like the Howards?'
'I gave up the engagement because I'm not interested in men or the Howard family. I just want to focus on my research.'
'I've already enjoyed the Windsor family's privileged life and top-notch education, getting the best of everything.'
'Moreover, those things rightfully belong to Catherine!'
Juniper put away her phone and looked at Esme coldly, saying,
"Esme, even if Catherine doesn't want those things, you have no right to covet them. Whether it's the Howard family or the Windsor family, they have nothing to do with you. You better know your place and stop dreaming."
Esme's face burned with humiliation!
'Both adopted daughters, so why does Juniper get to warn me!'
'It must be because Juniper wants to marry Alexander herself!'

Esme looked at Juniper's cold back and gritted her teeth, secretly dialing Lila's number.
"Lila, I clearly saw Catherine dating a poor guy, why doesn't Juniper believe me!"
Lila said with a mysterious smile,
"Silly girl, your evidence isn't shocking enough. If Juniper doesn't believe you, show it to more people. Aren't they planning a grand birthday party for Catherine? Release it then and let Catherine be completely disgraced in high society! Let's see how the Windsor family can protect her then!"
In high society like the Windsor family, reputation among families was super important.
Lila advised gently, "If they know Catherine is involved with a poor guy, would Alexander still be interested in her? Alexander will naturally see who is the most suitable match for him. Once Alexander acknowledges you, you will be the rightful daughter of the Windsor family!"
Lila wasn't worried at all that Alexander would choose Catherine as the future mistress of the Howard family.
Esme listened, excited!
