Chapter 71 Are You Being Bullied?

The Galactic Aurora Collective Lab was packed with brainiacs Catherine had scooped up from overseas. These folks had their IQs cranked up to the max, and in no time, they had the experimental data Catherine needed.

"Miss, I gotta run a control test on Dream grass to see what disease it works best on," Uranus said.

Catherine skimmed through the data in front of her. "Looks like it's brain cancer."

Half an hour later, the control test results were in. Dream grass was a game-changer for brain cancer, but for other diseases, it was just a trippy anesthetic.

For folks with mental issues or long-term brain nerve problems, it was gold; for everyone else, it was poison.

"Miss, how'd you figure that out? You're like a super genius or something!" Mercury said.

"Run another test. I need five hundred slides."

Five hundred slides would take Mercury and Uranus hours, but they didn't complain. They got to work, syncing up perfectly with Catherine and running the experiment smoothly.

By the time Catherine wrapped up and left the lab, it was already dark outside.

She suddenly remembered she had promised George she'd swing by his lab in the afternoon. He'd probably blown up her phone.

Sure enough, her phone showed twenty missed calls and over fifty messages.

George: [Catherine, where are you?]

George: [Busy? Call me when you see this!]

Catherine quickly called George back while heading to a car parked nearby. She hopped in and said, "George, sorry, got caught up with something. I'm with Alexander now, heading home soon."

Hearing her voice, George almost lost it. "Okay, as long as you're safe. I was worried sick! Next time, give me a heads-up!"

"Got it," she replied.

George had been so worried about Catherine that he couldn't focus on his surgery all afternoon. Even though the surgery went well, he was so distracted he almost stitched Catherine's name into the wound.

If he wasn't worried about bugging her, he would've sent even more messages!

Alexander was handling contracts in the car. When he saw Catherine get in, he put the papers aside and said, "Tired? Let's grab some food and head home."

Catherine glanced at the stack of contracts and asked, "Why are you working in the car? Did your company go bust? Or did The Howard Tower collapse?"

"I'm glad you're worried, but everything's fine. I just didn't want you to struggle finding a ride, so I came to get you," he explained.

Catherine found getting a driver's license a hassle. Driving was no problem for her, but Imperia City was different from overseas. She didn't want to cause trouble for the Windsor family, so she either got rides from them or took a cab.

"How'd you know I was in the lab?" she asked.

Alexander smiled, holding her hands. "Since you agreed to Ethan, I knew you'd be researching Dream grass. If you weren't in George's lab, you'd be here. The gear I sent is way better than George's."

As soon as the new equipment arrived, the folks at Moon checked and tweaked it. The geniuses at Galactic Aurora Collective only trusted Catherine and would only use the gear after making sure it was legit.

Plus, their experiment load was so high, regular machines couldn't keep up.

The modified gear was perfect for Moon Laboratory!

Annie drove into the city and asked, "Sir, where to for dinner?"

Alexander glanced over at Catherine, who was snoozing beside him, wrapped in his suit jacket. Her head was tilted slightly, and in the dim light, she looked so peaceful and cute.

High-frequency experiments really took it out of her. She must've been wiped to crash like this next to him.

For an assassin to fall asleep next to another assassin? That meant she trusted him big time.

Alexander's heart melted a bit. He gently moved her head onto his shoulder to make her more comfy.

"No need for a detour, just head straight to The Windsor Mansion," he said.

"Got it, Sir."

When the car stopped, Alexander scooped up the sleeping Catherine and carried her into The Windsor Mansion.

Brandon and Aurora weren't back yet, and only Richard was in the living room, pretending to read a script.

Though he was "reading," his eyes kept flicking to the door. He'd been stuck on the same page all evening—a page that didn't even have any of his lines.

Seeing Alexander carrying Catherine inside, Richard jumped up from the sofa and rushed over.

"What happened to Catherine?" Richard asked, all worried.

"She's just asleep. Where's her room? I'll take her up," Alexander said in a low voice.

Richard, looking suspicious, extended his hand and said coldly, "Thank you, Mr. Howard. But I'll take Catherine up."

"She'll wake up," Alexander said, not budging an inch. He smiled faintly at Richard but with a tone that said, "Don't even try."

Richard looked at Catherine's sleeping face and reluctantly gave in, still cautiously saying, "Alright, I'll show you the way. But don't try anything funny!"

Alexander, carrying Catherine, strode upstairs.

The Moonlight Mansion at Starry Residence was decked out in Catherine's favorite style, but the room was still packed with gifts from Charles, George, Richard, and Philip, plus a bunch of plush toys from Juniper.

Alexander carefully laid Catherine on the bed and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Good night, my lovely fiancée," he whispered.

Richard, leaning against the door, rolled his eyes but kept quiet.

'Chill out,' he told himself. 'Alexander and Catherine are engaged, and his actions are totally legit. No need to go all Hulk on him.'

"You can leave now," Richard said coldly.

"Make sure there's some food ready. Catherine hasn't had dinner yet, and she'll probably be hungry when she wakes up," Alexander advised.

Hearing this, Richard's expression softened a bit, but his tone stayed sarcastic. "How come Catherine hasn't had dinner with you around? If she marries you, will she even get breakfast? What were you doing all afternoon? George said he couldn't reach Catherine all day!"

'We couldn't reach her all afternoon, and now she's so tired Alexander had to carry her back.'

The more Richard thought about it, the more absurd it seemed. His mind filled with wild thoughts, and he almost wanted to wake Catherine up and ask what had happened!

'Is Catherine being bullied?' Richard wondered.

It was clear Richard was looking for trouble.

Alexander couldn't spill the beans about the Moon Laboratory. That was a secret between him and Catherine, not for anyone else.

"Catherine wasn't in a good mood today. If the Windsor family can't handle the Smith family, just let me know, and I'll take care of it," Alexander said.

At the mention of the Smith family, Richard's face darkened.

The Windsor family indeed had trouble taking action, partly because Marcus's status was too special. Any significant move would attract a lot of attention.

Richard pointed to his study and said, "Mr. Howard, this way, please."

Back at The Windsor Mansion, Esme was rummaging through the kitchen for food. After finally eating her fill, she let out a satisfied burp.

'No one brought me food while I was at the hospital! I was starving!' she thought.

The living room was empty, with several scripts scattered on the marble table.

Esme tiptoed over and picked up a script to read.

'Right! I can always be an actress'

Although she always looked down on celebrities, thinking they were just actors, Richard was an award-winning actor. If she entered the entertainment industry, making money would be a piece of cake!
