Chapter 57 Learning to Complain
Everyone in the Galactic Aurora Collective was totally losing it speaking of how Celeste and Oliver used to treat Catherine.
When she was born, it was actually Celeste's parents who took care of her. But when Elodie went to check on Catherine, she found out they were treating her like dirt, only giving her plain water. Catherine almost didn't make it! If Elodie hadn't stepped in and raised her right, there wouldn't be this awesome and beautiful Catherine they knew today! Did the Smiths really think a kid can grow up on just water? Catherine had got mad skills 'cause she was out there wrestling bears in the wild when she was young! Meanwhile, Clara was always kept close, under the excuse that Celeste needed a nanny.
'And now they want to take over Elodie's grave? Seriously?' Catherine thought.
"What is Celeste thinking? That grave's useless to her!" Catherine frowned. "Aren't Celeste's parents still alive?"
"Yeah, they say they think Elodie's grave is in a prime spot and they want to be buried there when they die!" Saturn said.
'What kind of jerks fight with the dead for land while they're still kicking?'
"Tell Oliver that spot's a once-in-a-century good luck charm, and future generations will benefit," Catherine said.
Saturn nodded, gritting his teeth. "Even if we tell Oliver, he'll probably get swayed by Celeste. What if they really move the grave?"
Catherine sighed, her brows knitting together. "Don't worry, if they dare to move Elodie's grave, they'll regret it."
Saturn relaxed a bit. 'With Catherine's word, I feel better!'
In the office, Charles pulled up all the records since Esme enrolled, including every time she had someone else attend classes and take exams for her.
"Sir, what's the school's policy on this?"
The director hesitated but then answered, "One year of repeating the grade, retaking all subjects, a major demerit, and a warning of expulsion with probation. If she fails the retakes, she's out."
Charles nodded. "Let's do that. Make sure every teacher takes attendance every class and doesn't miss Esme. I'll donate some equipment to the school, and from now on, all check-ins will be done with facial recognition."
The director was thrilled!
"This method is awesome!"
Catherine walked in and overheard, feeling a bit awkward.
'If Charles really does this, the whole Medical University will probably curse him under their breath.'
"Charles, isn't this a bit much?" Catherine asked.
Charles smiled, his lips curving into a smooth grin.
The director chimed in, "Miss, our school is Medical University. Studying seriously now means fewer mistakes on the operating table in the future, and more accurate data in the lab!"
Catherine nodded, getting that Medical University had high standards and knew how to teach their students well.
"If you're interested, consider our school!"
"I will."
After dealing with Esme's mess, Charles took Catherine out of the school.
"Catherine, you didn't look too happy after that call. Wanna talk about it? It's cool if you don't," Charles asked.
Catherine thought for a moment. She didn't want the Smith family's drama to mess with the Windsor family, but after seeing Lucas, she realized Charles already knew and had taken action without her knowing!
Charles gently touched her hair, saying softly, "Don't worry, it's normal to have worries. Did Alexander mess with you? Tell me, and I'll go beat him up!"
Catherine was exasperated.
"What does this have to do with Alexander?" She hesitated but then spilled the beans about what happened and her concerns.
Charles got it. He knew Catherine and Elodie had a deep bond. Without Elodie, there wouldn't be the Catherine of today. The Windsor family owed Elodie big time!
"Catherine, I'll make sure Elodie gets a better resting place. Maybe she'd want to be closer to you? We'll move her grave to Imperia City and buy the old Smith family house so no one can mess with her. It'll be easier for you to visit her too! If she were still alive, our whole family would owe her big time. She's the reason you're so amazing! I'll handle it. Don't worry, even though you're back with the Windsor family, Elodie will always be your grandma and my elder too!"
'Our Catherine is beautiful, gentle, strong, and sensible—the best sister in the world! And none of this has anything to do with Oliver or Celeste,' Charles thought.
'I initially put Elodie's grave there because she said she wanted to go home before she passed. Maybe, as Charles said, she'd rather be with me!' Catherine thought.
"Alright, thank you, Charles."
Meanwhile, the Medical University's admin office called Esme.
Esme was losing it when she heard the school's decision.
"Expulsion with probation? Are you nuts? Just for having someone take a test for me? Do you know who my grandfather is?" Esme snapped.
The director calmly replied, "We've already reported to Mr. Marcus Windsor, and he fully supports the school's decision."
Esme was fuming. 'Didn't I just tell Marcus yesterday that I'm the one being bullied? What is going on?'
She didn't want to waste another year at school with a bunch of poor, dumb students. She would rather be dressing up and hanging out with her rich friends. Those were the real connections!
After hanging up, Esme was about to rush to the hospital, hoping Marcus would speak up for her.
'As long as Marcus calls the director, no one would dare to push this.'
"Where's the driver?" Esme asked.
"Miss, the driver was sent by Mrs. Windsor to pick up some goods."
'Aurora has her own driver, why use another one?' Esme thought.
"What goods need so many people?"
'Could it be that Aurora finally realizes my birthday is coming up and is preparing a gift for me? They said it was agate. Agate! It must be the one I had my eye on last month! If Aurora is willing, I don't even need to go to college, just buy a degree!' The more Esme thought about it, the more excited she got!
"Did they say what it's for?" she asked.
"They said it's to replace the bathroom floor for Catherine. The current floor doesn't match the decoration."
'Replacing the floor for Catherine? In the bathroom?'
"Isn't Catherine not even living here?"
'She already has a house in Starry Residence, why bother renovating this place?'
"Mrs. Windsor said both places are Catherine's home. Since Catherine isn't staying here these days, she plans to give Catherine a new decoration scheme."
Esme almost choked.
'Why are the Windsor family members so good to Catherine? Catherine clearly doesn't know what's good. Using agate for the floor, she doesn't even find it too flashy!'
"Forget it, I'll take a cab myself! It's more important to find Marcus now," Esme said.
There was several miles from the Windsor Mansion to where cabs were allowed. After all, everyone living in the same neighborhood as the Windsor family had their own cars, and taxis weren't allowed in this area.
By the time Esme reached the gate, her ankles were covered in blisters, in excruciating pain.
A car stopped in front of her, and a man with a scarred face rolled down the window, his sinister gaze falling on her.
"Miss, where to?"
Esme didn't even look and got in the car. "Bright Heal Hospital, hurry up!"
The driver adjusted his baseball cap to cover his face and said, "Don't worry, I'll definitely take you where you need to go."
"What do you mean? I said Bright Heal Hospital, don't you understand?" Esme shouted.
Esme felt a bit uneasy. 'This guy looks sketchy, could he be a bad guy who has his eyes on my beauty?'
