Chapter 178 The True Director of Angel's Haven Orphanage
Ethan was dangling upside down from the black tower of Ironclad Jail, looking like he'd been through a meat grinder.
Catherine glanced at him, eyebrows raised. "Who the heck are you?"
Ethan, fuming, snapped back, "Blackfire, I had no clue you were Catherine! It was Timothy who wanted your grandpa dead, not me! You wiped out a bunch of my guys for that! I haven't even asked you to pay up yet!"
Catherine just shrugged. "You're Ethan? Didn't even recognize you. And your guys? They were weak. You want compensation? That's rich!"
Timothy chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah, I really messed him up good!"
Ethan was a mess, his big frame even more swollen and unrecognizable.
He knew Catherine was from the Windsor Family because he'd seen her birthday livestream while hanging out with Matthew during his recovery.
First, he spotted Alexander. Seeing that familiar face at the Windsor Family's party, Ethan was floored, realizing the president of the Howard Group was one of his biggest enemies.
Then he saw Catherine next to Alexander, and from their closeness, Ethan figured she had to be the Windsor Family's daughter.
Watching Catherine's familiar moves as she took down Danielle, Ethan, who'd fought the Faceless Ones countless times, felt like he was losing it, realizing she was another one of his arch-enemies.
Ethan suddenly felt all his efforts over the years were pointless, wondering why they turned into assassins out of nowhere.
"You dragged me to Ironclad Jail! Now you hang me up, what do you want? Trying to take over Abyssal Blades?" Ethan asked.
"Abyssal Blades? No thanks. Your guys are too ugly and too dumb. They'd just embarrass me," Catherine said.
Even though the Faceless Ones were orphans Catherine adopted from all over, and assassins didn't need to be pretty, they weren't as ugly as the Abyssal Blades, who trained to look like bodybuilders.
Catherine would be mortified to have a bunch of muscle-bound guys following her around. "Besides, I called you here to save someone. Don't you care about your brother?"
Ethan was quiet for a moment. "Can you let me down? Timothy, you killed all my guys. I can't do anything now."
Timothy looked at Catherine for her call.
"Let him down. His brain's not working right," Catherine said, meaning it literally. A few years back, Ethan had a nasty head injury. From his look just now, he probably still had blood clots in his brain.
Ethan was let down and tossed by the pool.
Timothy's men wheeled Matthew over.
Timothy snorted, "I don't beat up patients. He looks half-dead already. No fun in that!"
Matthew, sitting in the wheelchair, gave Timothy a slight nod. "Timothy, sorry to trouble you."
He had a scholarly look, a slight smile, and his eyes slowly landed on Catherine, smiling. "Thanks for saving my life."
Catherine said coolly, "It was Moon who saved you, not me."
"Of course, I get it," Matthew said.
Catherine looked at Matthew, knowing he must've figured out she was Moon.
Matthew was way smarter than Ethan and Jacob.
Ethan said, "Timothy, let's make a deal. Hand over Jacob to us, and you can do whatever you want with the Abyssal Blades from now on!"
Timothy rolled his eyes and dragged a chair over for Catherine. "Catherine, take a load off. Standing around is a pain! Alexander didn't even think to get you a chair. If you're over him, I can hook you up with someone better here in Ironclad Jail. Heck, I can find you ten if you want."
Catherine shot him a cold look. "What, you gonna set me up with death row inmates, drug lords, or serial killers?"
Timothy awkwardly rubbed his forehead. He'd forgotten there wasn't a single normal person in Ironclad Jail, including himself. He was just as messed up as the rest of them! Not exactly a great dating pool.
"Ethan, let's get to the point. If it weren't for orders, Jacob wouldn't be breathing right now. Do you really think with his attitude, I'd let him live?" Timothy's tone was sharp. "You want to take him? Fine, but he spills everything he knows first! Then he's all yours."
Timothy's plan was solid. According to Catherine, Jacob was already on his last legs.
Even if Ethan took him, it would save Timothy the trouble of feeding Jacob to the fish. But before Jacob left, he had to sing like a canary!
Timothy snorted, "Or you guys can spill the secret that Jacob knows too!"
Catherine snapped her fingers. "Timothy, how many times did you try to kill my grandfather?"
"Once. Marcus isn't worth more than one shot," Timothy replied.
Catherine gave Ethan a knowing look. "Really? But I remember Abyssal Blades tried twice."
It was during the second attempt that Catherine happened to save Felix, who was having a seizure.
Abyssal Blades had everything set up, with bombs in Marcus's ward and bribed medical staff. If anything had gone wrong, Felix and Marcus might not have made it.
Timothy angrily retorted, "No way! One attempt was enough. If it hadn't been Elodie's birthday that day, I wouldn't have bothered! I find it dirty!"
Alexander cut in mercilessly. "Or maybe you just didn't get the chance before? The day you picked also happened to be when the hospital guards were changing shifts."
'It's not easy to go after a former general of Stellara in Imperia City. Otherwise, why didn't Timothy act on previous birthdays?' Alexander thought.
Timothy's face turned red with embarrassment. "Shut up! Bring Jacob out, and whoever tells the truth gets to leave alive. If not, you're all shark bait!"
Catherine looked at Matthew, who had been silent. "Jacob's already said everything he needed to. The rest, you tell me!"
"Me? You must be mistaken. I'm not well, what could I possibly know?" Matthew said.
Catherine shook her head, looking seriously at Matthew. "You're the one Jacob and Ethan are protecting. Whether it's Abyssal Blades or Angel's Haven Orphanage, I think you're the one calling the shots! Whether it's the orphanage or the Vinehill Hospital, you're the director!"
From the moment she first saw Matthew, Catherine noticed he was different. Ethan showed not just brotherly care but also an unusual reverence for him! That look was different from how the Windsor Family looked at her, but it was exactly the same as how the Galactic Aurora Collective looked at Catherine! It was the respect and reverence for a leader, even willing to sacrifice themselves to protect the other.
Matthew squinted and smiled. "I appreciate that you think so highly of me, but you might be mistaken. I don't know anything."
Catherine gasped and covered her mouth. "I forgot to tell you that during your brain surgery, something was accidentally left inside. What do you think we should do about that? Is it considered a medical accident?"
