Chapter 219 Alexander, Have You No Shame?
Alexander's voice had this deep, magnetic vibe that just blended perfectly with the guitar.
The classical guitar sounded all elegant and rich, and in Alexander's hands, it was like a gentleman whispering poetry.
The piece was just the right length. It was evident that Alexander didn't play much; his technique was a bit rough around the edges.
His fingers were long and smooth, with clear joints. The sunlight streaming into the office gave him a golden glow.
As the melody wrapped up, Catherine's heart seemed to beat in time with the guitar strings.
"This is my first time playing. If I get another chance, I'll play something better for you," he said.
Catherine looked away, lowering her eyes to hide her expression. "Don't play until your hand heals. Also, your left hand seems pretty skilled."
'If I remember right, Alexander used his left hand to write with my pen in the office earlier. There are a few extra notes on the guitar shop's financial report, all pointing out the mistakes Alexander circled. With such skill, how did he have the nerve to ask me to feed him this morning? No wonder Felix looked at us with such a satisfied expression.' Thinking of this, Catherine felt a bit embarrassed.
She shot a cold look at Alexander. "Are you a little kid?"
She didn't need anyone to feed her when she was little, let alone play such silly tricks.
Alexander put down the guitar and leaned in close to Catherine, close enough for their breaths to mix. "If I'm a kid, can I kiss you, Catherine?"
Catherine stood up abruptly, her hands clenched into fists. "Alexander, do you have no shame?"
If the employees of the Howard Group saw their usually aloof CEO acting so clingy and saying such things, they'd be floored!
As Catherine stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind her, Alexander's lips curled into a pleased smile.
Alexander said softly, "I forgot to tell you. Besides learning guitar in school, I also learned that to win over the girl I like, I can't be shy."
Catherine walked briskly out of the office, heading straight to the air conditioner in the guitar shop. The cool air blowing on her face gradually calmed her down.
'Is Alexander a bit too shameless? I can't believe he could say those things so casually!' Catherine's mind was spinning, and her phone rang at that moment.
Sophia's voice came through the phone. "Miss, I think I'm in big trouble."
"What happened?"
"Richard has been overly attentive these past two days. I suspect he has ulterior motives, but I didn't say anything that would give him the wrong idea!" Sophia said.
To avoid misunderstandings with male actors around her, Sophia always kept a distance, maintaining a professional boundary.
Catherine pressed her temples. "You're overthinking it. Richard told me that since he noticed we get along well, he decided to look out for you a bit. You're not Richard's type."
"That's a relief. I was really worried my charm was too overwhelming. Mainly, Richard's gaze is quite intimidating."
"He's nearsighted; he looks at dogs with affection," Catherine teased.
Sophia was silent for a moment. "Your insults have really leveled up! By the way, an actress on our set said she recently bought a large piece of nephrite. Didn't we stop selling those recently?"
"Defective goods. Find out who's been taking the ones we tossed."
The Galactic Aurora Collective had the biggest nephrite supply chain, but they only took top-notch pieces.
The nephrite on the violin earlier was really low quality.
"There are only a few families who can get their hands on nephrite. I'll look into it right away," Sophia said.
After Catherine put away her phone, the new manager of the guitar shop, Nora, approached her respectfully. "Ms. Windsor, there's a woman outside who wants to meet you. Do you recognize her?"
Catherine's gaze swept over the rows of guitar racks, landing on a familiar figure at the door. "I don't know her. I won't see her."
The person at the door was none other than Lucas's mother, Molly.
Catherine wasn't surprised Molly had found her. Imperia City was big, but not so big that someone couldn't track her down.
Nora walked to the door and apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Windsor said she doesn't know you."
'Ms. Windsor?' A shrewd look appeared in Molly's eyes as she thought, 'This guitar shop is the biggest in Imperia City. If Catherine owns it, she's doing well. The Johnson Family just went bankrupt, and all our businesses have been mysteriously restrained. I divorced Steven, but the Reed Family still has some money, so I won't end up on the streets with that loser Steven. And now, I've found Catherine!'
"Can I go in to buy something, then?" Molly asked.
"Of course. What kind of guitar are you looking for? I'll show you around," Nora said.
Molly's gaze swept over the guitars and the price tags. Seeing the string of zeros after the prices, she was utterly shocked.
'The cheapest guitar here is $20,000? How did Catherine get this music shop?' Molly wondered. "Is this guitar shop solely owned by Ms. Windsor?"
"Yes, and the gallery next door and the guitar gallery across the street are also solely owned by Ms. Windsor," Nora replied.
'So, Catherine is quite wealthy now?' Molly thought, overjoyed, and quickly went outside to call Lucas. "Investigate Catherine and stop thinking about that little tramp Clara who's about to go to jail. Trust me; I mean no harm."
"Got it." Lucas didn't bother to avoid the people around him when he took the call.
Clara, lying in front of him, turned pale! "Lucas, what does your mom mean by that? I'm carrying your child; you can't abandon me!"
Clara didn't even know why she had been at Oliver's car accident scene. When she opened her eyes and saw the bloody Oliver, she was almost scared to death! If she hadn't been found pregnant at that moment, she might already be in jail.
Lucas was a bit impatient. "Clara, we don't even know if this child is mine. Who knows if you have other partners?"
Clara sat up abruptly, looking at Lucas in disbelief. "What do you mean? How can you doubt me? Of course, the child is yours!"
"I have business at the company. Take care of yourself." Lucas got up and left, not giving Clara a chance to speak further.
Clara clutched her stomach, glaring resentfully at Lucas's departing figure as she thought, 'The Johnson Family has gone bankrupt. What company can he possibly go to? He must be going to find Catherine! But I have to keep the child in my belly, or I will end up back in jail.'
