Chapter 235 Dealing with the Audacious Maid

Aurora wiped away her tears and nodded. Then she said to Catherine, "If you get too tired, just let me know. I'll make sure your brothers pitch in!"

Aurora felt a bit guilty, thinking, 'There's just too much going on with the Windsor Family, and I don't want to deal with any of it. The kids are all grown up now, smart and capable. It's their turn to take over. I've been dreaming of retiring and traveling with Brandon! If it weren't for wanting to see Catherine off to school, Brandon and I might already be on the road. I've even planned our travel route!'

Catherine saw Aurora's eager yet slightly embarrassed look and couldn't help but smile. "Alright, don't worry, Mom. If I need help, I'll ask Charles."

There weren't that many issues at Starry Residence, but the bigger problem with the Windsor Family's servants was that the ones Lila had left behind were originally dishonest.

When Lila first married Marcus, she was eager to bring all her family members to the Windsor family to find them jobs.

After Aurora took charge, she didn't replace those people and had put up with them for years.

But this tolerance had led to big problems.

Charles got up to serve Aurora some soup, speaking gently, "I had someone check out all the Windsor Family servants' social media accounts. Lucy's case is an exception; others might be dishonest but not to this extent. However, there's a lot of money flowing into Lucy's account, and we're tracking the source."

Catherine looked up and said calmly, "It's probably money from people interested in the Windsor Family."

Although Lucy was bold and had contacted many people wanting to dig up information about the Windsor Family, she couldn't access any confidential matters.

After all, even the Windsor family's studies were off-limits to the maids. All the study rooms were cleaned by the Windsor Family children themselves, and many surveillance cameras were installed. Lucy couldn't find an opportunity to get in even if she wanted to.

Catherine had looked at the information Lucy sold, most of which was fabricated by Lucy herself. "Lucy sold a lot of our family's information, but it was mostly false. For example, she said Mom loves beef stew with black truffle and makes the maids get up at three in the morning to prepare it."

Aurora had never made anyone get up at three to make beef stew with black truffle!

Such information sounded ridiculous, but many people were willing to believe it. Part of Lucy's income came from these false stories.

Brandon suddenly stood up, still holding a fork. "So that's why people kept sending me black truffles a few years ago! And someone even said I was having an affair with a maid and that there would be a new child in the house, and Aurora and I were getting divorced!"

So all those ridiculous rumors were spread by Lucy!

Brandon was almost dumbfounded. If Aurora didn't know Brandon's character, she might have really doubted him.

Thinking about those rumors from back then, Brandon almost wanted to cry. "Catherine, people outside even said that to marry into our family, one must have five children, and that we value boys over girls. That's why no one has been willing to date Charles for so many years."

Charles's mouth twitched as he thought, 'How long ago are those rumors? Brandon bringing them up now is just an excuse to push me into dating!'

"That's too much, Dad. No one wants to date me because I don't want to, not because of those rumors," Charles said.

"You don't get it! Thinking about this stuff keeps me up at night. You're almost thirty!" Brandon replied.

Charles discreetly rolled his eyes.

Brandon could fall asleep watching TV. If he couldn't sleep at night, it was probably because he napped too much during the day. His ability to fall asleep instantly made even the Windsor family sons envious of his sleep quality.

"If you can't sleep, you should get a night job," Charles said.

"You don't have a partner yet, and I'm so ashamed that I can't even hold my head up!" Brandon said.

"That's good too. Walking with your head down is less likely to make you trip," Charles said.

Brandon was so angry he almost ground his teeth. Catherine pretended not to hear anything and laughed with Aurora.

Charles, while dealing with Brandon's nagging about marriage, also peeled shrimp for Catherine and Aurora.

The family had a lively dinner, and Brandon left a pile of dishes on the table. "Argue with me, will you? Tonight, you're washing the dishes!"

All the Windsor Family maids had been sent for investigation, so there was no one to wash the dishes at home.

Catherine looked at the pile of dishes and then at Charles, who was cleaning up alone. "Charles, let me help you."

Charles, skillfully tying an apron around himself, exuded a calm and gentle demeanor, quite different from his usual commanding presence as a financial tycoon. He shook his head indulgently. "No need. You go keep Mom company. It's just a matter of putting these dishes in the dishwasher. Our family doesn't need you to do chores. When Juniper was home, she never cleaned up."

'Look how good Catherine is! I know Brandon has picked a fight during dinner just to make me wash the dishes! Otherwise, why bring up marriage now and not earlier or later?' Charles thought. "This is Dad's old trick. I'm used to it. You'll see."

"Then I'll help you start the dishwasher."

"Alright, thank you, Catherine."

It was clear Charles wasn't new to household chores. His movements were steady, stacking a dozen plates together while still having a hand free to wipe the table.

Catherine was stunned!

Successfully starting the dishwasher, Charles smiled modestly. "When I was studying abroad, I took care of myself. After coming back, I had to look after your useless brothers."

"You're amazing." This was a sincere compliment.

Even the Galactic Aurora Collective members couldn't be expected to carry a stack of dishes taller than a person back to the kitchen in one go.

Charles smiled confidently. "Go rest now. Tomorrow, I'll take you to the Howard Family's banquet."

Catherine nodded in agreement.

The next morning.

Ezekiel had spread the news early, eager to turn things around quickly and make the rumors disappear. He had spent a lot of effort inviting many people.

Esme, holding a wine glass and wearing a long dress to cover her unhealed burns, was full of anticipation.

'My biological mother has actually asked me to find her at Ezekiel's banquet!' Esme thought, extremely excited, constantly searching the banquet for the woman who would contact her! 'It must be the lady currently talking to Ezekiel! Does this mean my mother can be Ezekiel's wife?'

Esme's heart was about to leap out of her chest as she thought, 'If I become part of the Howard Family, I won't have to worry about the rest of my life! This way, I will also be closer to Alexander.'
