Chapter 81 Secretly Snatching Back the Burial Plot
Oliver felt a stab of guilt, thinking about how the kidnappers knew he bribed the commercial judge, sent gifts to officials only to have them sent back, and even torched his competitor's company to snag their trade secrets. They even knew he swiped the competitor's menu and served just mushroom soup at their banquet!
Fear gnawed at Oliver, sending chills down his spine and making him break out in a cold sweat. Every drop that trickled into his wounds sent a jolt of pain through him.
"Where's the doc? Clara, where'd you get the cash? I was just about to call the Johnsons to talk about your marriage!" Oliver blurted out.
Clara's eyes lit up at the mention of marriage.
'If Oliver thinks the money's from the Johnsons, he'll definitely push for my marriage to Lucas right away. As for the five million bucks, Esme's loaded anyway. I can just hit up the Johnsons for it after marrying Lucas,' Clara thought.
"Don't sweat it. I'll handle it. I ran into Richard from the Windsor family, and as soon as he heard Catherine's name, he booted me out. Looks like the Windsors really can't stand Catherine," Clara said.
Oliver nodded, feeling relieved. 'Clara's a hundred times better than that ungrateful Catherine! Good thing we cut ties with her; otherwise, who knows how much she'd drag the Smith family down!'
"I also saw Catherine chatting with the big shots from Harmony Enterprises and Nexus Media. They seemed pretty chummy," Clara added.
Oliver's ears perked up.
'Catherine knows the bosses of Harmony Enterprises and Nexus Media? Maybe their relatives are also at Bright Heal Hospital and hired Catherine as a caregiver? Catherine can only do grunt work. She always looks so shabby; who knows how poor her real family is,' he thought.
"Forget about her. She's got nothing to do with us! Celeste, I sold the old house in Osflow!" Oliver announced.
Celeste sat up abruptly, looking at Oliver with concern. "Sold it? What about Elodie's grave..."
"I sold that too. Some fool insisted on buying it with the grave. It's ridiculous!" Oliver said, pleased that some sucker had bought the old house and Elodie's grave. They hadn't spent a dime on the house or the grave, just picked a random plot of land.
Now he had sold it for three million bucks, and Oliver was ecstatic.
Celeste's vision darkened, and she almost fainted. "Oliver, how could you sell the grave too? That grave is blessed by God!"
"Huh? It's just a grave. What's the big deal?"
Celeste was speechless, thinking, 'That grave was chosen by my parents, and I planned to move Elodie out and save it for later. Who knew Oliver, the spendthrift, would sell Elodie's grave!'
"Oliver! They might've bought it for the grave. That spot is said to bring prosperity and endless wealth to future generations!" Celeste said.
"Really? I wondered why they were willing to pay three million bucks for an old house. It's for the grave. I need to see if I can buy it back." Oliver, enduring the pain, took out his phone and dialed the number of the person who had bought the old house.
In the car, Charles's assistant handed him the phone.
"Sir, it's a call from Oliver."
Charles glanced at the caller and then at Catherine beside him.
Catherine nodded slightly, signaling him to answer.
"Hello? Is this Martin, who bought our house? The thing is, you also bought a grave along with the house. I just realized that grave is my mom's. She's my biological mom! I've been feeling uneasy these past few days, thinking about it making me uncomfortable. After all, it's just a grave, and it's of no use to you. Can you return it to me?"
Charles let out a cold laugh and said, "You want me to give it back for free? I paid for that land! The contract's signed and sealed. If you want it, you'll have to buy it back."
"Name your price," Oliver said.
"Ten million dollars."
Ignoring his injuries, Oliver screamed and jumped up, "That's highway robbery! You only paid three million for our old house and my mom's grave, and now you want ten million to sell it back?"
"Because that grave and house are mine now," Charles said.
Thinking about how that land could be a blessing for the Smith family, Oliver said, reluctant to let it go, "Sir, that's my mom's grave. What are you planning to do with it?"
"It's a place blessed by God. Of course, I'll use it to bury my elders," Charles said.
'I hoped that as long as they don't disturb Elodie's grave, it will still bless the Smith family's wealth. But Martin said he will bury his family there, which will bless Martin's descendants instead!' Oliver thought before he said, "No! That's my mom's grave. You can't treat her like that!"
"I've already dug a random hole and buried your mom. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
Oliver was stunned. 'What does he mean by digging a random hole and burying her? Elodie is my mom, not Martin's. How can Martin just dig her up?'
"Sir, how can you treat my mom like this? You're being too much!" Oliver said.
Charles frowned, impatiently saying, "If you want your mom's coffin, dig it up yourself. That grave is mine now. If you want it, pay for it. Stop wasting my time."
He hung up the phone and tossed it to his assistant, ordering, "Block his number from now on, unless he wants to pay for the grave."
"Yes, sir."
Oliver listened to the busy tone on the phone and said furiously, "How can he do this? He's just occupying our grave! That's our property!"
Celeste, holding her swollen face, gasped in pain. Those people seemed to target her face specifically!
"Oliver, why don't we secretly re-bury Elodie? That way, we don't have to spend money, and the land will still be ours."
Oliver thought it made sense and said, "But we don't have time to go back right now."
"Let my parents do it. It's for the family's good; they'll definitely agree," Celeste said.
'The key is to secretly bury the Brown family's ancestor's ashes there, ensuring the land will always bless the Brown family,' she thought.
Oliver was touched and happy that he didn't have to do it himself and said, "Thanks to your parents. When the Smith family prospers, they'll definitely benefit!"
"Don't mention it; we're family."
On the other side, Charles looked at Catherine and asked, "Catherine, do you think Oliver will go looking for your grandmother's coffin?"
"No, but they'll definitely try to sneak back and bury something else," Catherine said confidently.
Elodie's coffin had already been moved by Charles to the old Smith family house, newly named Cloudscape Villa, next to the maple tree Catherine had bought for her.
Oliver didn't care where Elodie's coffin was; he was likely after the place blessed by God. Since they wouldn't look for Elodie's burial site, whoever they wanted to bury secretly wouldn't be Elodie.
"I have people watching the grave. Don't worry."
Seeing Charles's warm and handsome smile, Catherine felt a warmth in her heart and she asked, "Charles, did you arrange something else in that grave?"
Charles smiled mysteriously and patted Catherine's head, saying, "You'll find out soon enough. Come on, we're at the music store."
