Chapter 78 Alzheimer's? Lila Deserves It!
Alexander, in Esme's eyes, was only meant for a woman as awesome as herself.
As the big boss of the Howard Group, Alexander's cash flow was off the charts. Esme had overheard Marcus cracking a joke.
If the Howard family went belly up, Imperia City's GDP would take a twenty-year nosedive!
Right then and there, Esme decided she had to snag Alexander!
She thought Catherine, just some country bumpkin, had no business being anywhere near Alexander.
"I'm totally gonna make Alexander fall for me!" Esme declared with confidence.
Lila looked at Esme, the girl she had raised, with pride.
Yep, Esme was thoughtful and sensible, visiting her every day, unlike that ungrateful Catherine.
Lila dialed Catherine's number, her tone dripping with arrogance.
"Where the heck have you been these past two days? Did I ever say you could skip out on visiting me at the hospital? You better bring Alexander to see me today, or you're in deep trouble!"
Catherine was having dinner with the Windsor family at The Martinez Mansion with Samuel and Grace.
Since she was busy cracking crabs for Grace, she put the call on speaker.
She didn't expect it to be Lila, and everyone in the dining room heard her ranting.
Aurora couldn't keep her cool and slammed the table, standing up, but Brandon quickly held her back.
'Aurora's already in a bad mood, and it took a lot to calm her down. If she goes off on Lila now, it'll just get worse,' Brandon thought.
Lila, clueless that Catherine was surrounded by people, kept ranting,
"You're just as undisciplined as Aurora! A few days ago, I asked her to bring me some food, and she ate it all herself. My agate bracelet is missing too; I bet Aurora took it."
Aurora, hearing such a blatant lie, angrily shoved Brandon aside and shouted, "What a load of crap! Who stole your stuff? That agate bracelet isn't even worth one of my hairpins! And you weren't even wearing it when I visited!"
Lila snorted, "I've known you were faking it all these years. Now your true colors are showing, huh? Sooner or later, Brandon will dump you. You're such a nasty woman."
Grace, with a stern face, couldn't take it anymore and said, "Lila, if you've got issues with how I raised my daughter, come at me. Aurora hasn't done anything wrong to you."
Lila was stunned to realize Grace was there too!
"I recorded everything you just said and will send it to Marcus as is. I want to see how your family has treated Aurora all these years! And let me tell you, not only will Aurora not visit you, but neither will Catherine! You've got a dozen caregivers around you, and that's not enough? You still want to boss around our family members!" Grace sneered, dripping with sarcasm.
"Who do you think you are, wanting Alexander to visit you too? If you don't have a mirror in your room, I'll send you a couple right away. Take a good look at yourself! Everyone knows your game. You just want Esme to marry into the Howard family. Do you really think they'd be interested in someone raised by you? Don't think you can hide what you did when you were young. Just zip it!"
Grace, though a scientist, could be downright scary when she was mad.
Lila fell silent, clearly knowing she was in the wrong, and muttered, "I'm not wrong. I'm just sick and asking Aurora to take care of me. Isn't that her duty?"
Grace rolled her eyes and sneered, "What kind of illness makes Aurora visit you at five in the morning? Keep messing with Aurora and Catherine, and you'll regret it!"
Grace hung up and blocked all of Lila's contacts for Catherine.
Samuel looked at Brandon and said, "Until this mess is sorted, Aurora's not going back to the Windsor family."
Brandon panicked hearing Samuel say that!
He explained, "Samuel, I've dealt with this so many times, but Lila always says one thing and does another. I'm starting to think she's got some kind of issue."
Catherine was quiet for a moment before speaking softly, "I heard Prof. Davis say Lila might have early signs of dementia. She thinks her stuff's being stolen and even suspects Marcus of fooling around with the caregivers. These are early signs of dementia."
At their age, dementia was a common illness.
Grace's face didn't look any better and he said, "Dementia? She deserves it! She couldn't have had dementia all these years, right? She caused so much trouble for Aurora when she was young. If Brandon hadn't moved out with Aurora, who knows what things would be like now!"
"Has Lila always been like this?" Catherine asked.
Brandon gave a bitter smile, almost on the verge of tears!
"She wasn't like this before. When Aurora and I were dating, she was very supportive. But then, one day, she changed and started giving Aurora a hard time, saying things I couldn't understand!"
Catherine nodded, piecing together Lila's change.
It seemed Lila had started taking Vitality Pills before Brandon and Aurora got married.
The person giving Lila the Vitality Pills must have been someone close to her, who was later replaced by Esme.
Samuel didn't want to dwell on unpleasant topics, so he said, "Brandon, you handle this yourself. Aurora will stay home for now, and Catherine can stay for a few days too. I want to write a new book with Catherine as the inspiration, how about that?"
Everyone at the table was surprised.
Charles looked at Catherine and immediately objected.
Being the inspiration for Samuel's novels was a big deal!
Samuel would design his protagonist based on the image in his mind, with very high standards!
"Samuel, let's not do that. Catherine is still young!" Charles said.
Samuel waved his hand dismissively. "You brat, I just want to write about a dancer. Catherine can learn to dance and play the violin; everything else is perfect!"
Richard, sitting next to Catherine, was also anxious and said, "Samuel! Catherine doesn't know those things. Your standards are so high, and she's so young. It would be very hard for her to learn!"
Samuel was in a bit of a dilemma. He had seen Catherine and Alexander dancing on the yacht and immediately thought of a forest elf!
But considering his high standards for his novels, it would indeed be difficult for Catherine.
Still, Samuel was reluctant to give up and looked at Catherine with anticipation and asked, "Catherine, would you like to be the inspiration for my novel's heroine?"
As a contemporary literary master, Samuel had very high standards for his works, and his literary creations always caused a huge sensation in the literary world.
Catherine thought for a moment and nodded, "Okay, I can do it."
Samuel's face lit up with a broad smile!
