Chapter 200 Want to Die? I Saved Your Life!

Seeing the person lying on the hospital bed, Catherine frowned. When Gavin saw Catherine, he felt a spark of hope! The patient's condition was critical, but he had read Catherine's paper on the patient's symptoms.

Catherine glanced at Alexander and handed him the bread George had given her. "Wait for me."

"Okay." Alexander knew she would definitely get involved, a faint smile on his lips.

Catherine followed Gavin, changed into surgical scrubs, and entered the emergency room.

"Take a look. From the preliminary diagnosis, it looks like an aortic dissection, with a tear in the inner lining of the aortic wall, and it's type A. The patient has already fainted, with massive bleeding from the aortic dissection. We didn't dare perform CPR on the way here," Gavin reported.

"Surgery needs to be performed immediately. Even if I do it, I can't guarantee it'll be successful," Catherine nodded, understanding the patient's condition. She looked up at Gavin, her tone serious. "I'll do it. You sign the papers."

Gavin gritted his teeth, knowing there was no time to hesitate, and quickly made way for Catherine. "Administer anesthesia. Prepare for surgery!" Catherine ordered.

Seeing the hesitant looks from the surrounding doctors, Gavin said sternly, "I'll take responsibility! Fully cooperate with Catherine!"

With Gavin's command and the patient's urgent condition, the emergency room quickly became busy.

Two hours later, the assistant physician carefully wiped the sweat from Catherine's forehead, amazed at her steady hands. No wonder Gavin insisted on her performing the surgery; such skill was rare even among seasoned surgical experts!

Catherine breathed a sigh of relief. "The surgery was very successful, but careful monitoring is needed. There could be complications like kidney failure."

"Don't worry, I'll inform the patient's family," Gavin said.

Catherine nodded and walked out with Gavin, changing out of their surgical scrubs. "Where did you pick up the patient?"

Gavin wasn't an ER doctor, so it was unusual for him to encounter such a critical patient. Gavin gave a wry smile. "This is Owen's grandson. He fainted at the airport just after returning to the country. I happened to be coming back from a meeting and encountered him at the airport."

'It is indeed lucky for the kid; otherwise, how could he have met Catherine at just the right time?' Gavin thought. "Were you here to see George?"

"No, there was a fire at The Hughes Manor. Emilia got burned and was brought in for emergency treatment," Catherine explained.

Gavin didn't know what to say for a moment. Catherine added, "Don't tell George about this. I don't want him to worry. Anyway, you signed the papers, not me. If there are any complications with the patient, contact me."

Catherine was confident in her surgery; as long as the patient was properly cared for, he should pull through.

Gavin gave a wry smile, knowing Catherine hated trouble. As he washed his hands, he snorted, "Fine, I'll take the credit. Saving a patient with an aortic dissection will ensure I get recognized at the hospital's award ceremonies for years! If you don't want the credit, I'll take it!"

"I don't want it," Catherine didn't care about such things.

As Catherine came out of the operating room, Alexander was talking to Annie about the Hughes Family matters.

Annie saw Catherine and quickly approached. "Miss Windsor! The news of the Hughes Family's bankruptcy will be out tomorrow, but we still don't know how many survived the fire. The arsonist has been caught; he's from Blade of Dusk."

Catherine raised an eyebrow. "Blade of Dusk?"

"Yes, someone close to Emilia's mother helped Emilia set the fire. All the gasoline at the Hughes Family was provided by Blade of Dusk. He claimed he didn't know Emilia didn't want to live either. Knowing Emilia was taken to the hospital, he took all the blame and has been taken away," Annie said.

The emergency room light finally went off, and George walked out, looking exhausted. "Emilia can live, but she doesn't want to. The burns and asphyxiation injuries aren't severe, and her trachea isn't damaged."

Emilia's biggest problem was her lack of will to live. She wanted to perish along with everyone in the Hughes Family.

George muttered, "Why would she want to end her life out of the blue? Catherine, you should head back. Leave this to me; I can definitely save Emilia."

"Alright. Will Emilia's burns leave scars?" Catherine asked.

George answered honestly, "Not on her face, but maybe on her legs. Fortunately, the area isn't large. She can cover it with a tattoo later."

Catherine glanced at George. She didn't expect George to be such a considerate doctor, thinking about how to handle future scars for his patients. "Then we'll go. When she wakes up, have her contact me. I got you some food; it's in your office. Stop eating bread."

Catherine waved the bread in her hand and left the hospital with Alexander. Hearing that Catherine had bought him food, George was overjoyed.

Soon, a video of George showing off appeared in the Windsor Family group chat.

George: [Who bought me this lovely midnight snack? Turns out it was Catherine!]

Charles: [Why was Catherine at the hospital so late?]

Richard: [Catherine said she was with Alexander. Why did she go to the hospital? Did Alexander bully her?]

George quickly explained the situation, and everyone was relieved. Juniper clicked on various photos in her album and sent them all to the group.

Juniper: [Who arranges my meals every day? It's Catherine, worried I wouldn't eat well in Tranquil County. She loves me!]

Philip: [You're not in Tranquil County anymore, so you don't need to eat.]

Juniper: [Who's jealous of me? I even sleep with Catherine, you bunch of envious men.]

Juniper contentedly ended the group chat and opened a private chat with George.

Juniper: [George, since Emilia is burned, as her attending physician, you should show more concern!]

George was puzzled as he wondered, 'Why should I be particularly concerned about Emilia? I care about all my patients, don't I?'

The next morning, Catherine went to the hospital with Juniper. Emilia was already awake. Her once shiny hair had turned dull and yellow, and her face looked haggard, losing its former glow. "Catherine, thank you for saving me. I love you."

Catherine shook her head and handed Emilia a pillow to lean on. Catherine knew what Emilia was concerned about and didn't hide it from her. "The Hughes Family has gone bankrupt. Anthony and the Hughes Family members are all in emergency care."

Emilia nodded. "Well, that's somewhat good news."

Juniper was a bit worried. "Emilia, the Hughes Family is bankrupt. What will you do now?"

Emilia smiled and brushed her hair with her bandaged hand. "I've hidden a lot of money. The Hughes Family's bankruptcy doesn't affect my money. I hid a lot of gold bars, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars! But I didn't expect to survive."

Emilia looked at the photo album placed beside her, her eyes filled with longing. "I miss my mom a lot every day. When I see Mrs. Windsor calling to check if you have eaten and what you ate, I feel like crying."

Emilia wiped her tears and forced a weak smile. "I'm actually very weak. I'm scared Anthony will sell me to some old man for a good price. I'm scared Maurice will kill me one day. I'm scared I won't be able to avenge my mom. I'm scared of dying!" Despite all this fear, she was so brave when it came to avenging her mom.

The door to the room opened, and George, with a stern face, looked at Emilia, whose eyes were red from crying, and spoke coldly, "I saved your life, Emilia! You have no right to hurt yourself!"
