Chapter 93 He Wants to Hold His Great-Grandchild
'These comics are my life! I had to twist Andrew's arm to get them, and now I'm at the best part!' Marcus thought. Normally, he's all business, but now he's practically begging Catherine for a few comics.
When Gavin found out Catherine wrote all the prescriptions, he didn't say a word. Every time he came by, he just signed off on her prescriptions and went through the motions. Officially, Gavin was still the attending physician, but really, whether Marcus could leave was all up to Catherine!
"Catherine, can't you just let me keep one? I'm at the best part, and I'm about to hit the big plot twist!" Marcus pleaded.
Seeing Marcus so desperate, Felix couldn't help but laugh.
"Just one, please!" Marcus begged.
Catherine picked up the comic and flipped through it casually. "Why is this in Novian?"
Marcus chuckled, "The comic's by Jacob, an artist from Novian. I learned Novian just to read this! It was tough!"
'Jacob? Never heard of him,' Catherine thought as she flipped through the comic. The artwork was stunning, with bold and vivid colors, a style that was rarely used by domestic comic artists.
Catherine frowned slightly at the last picture. It showed an orphanage with a heart logo next to a hospital labeled Vinehill Hospital.
'How is Marcus's comic connected to Vinehill Hospital?' she wondered.
Catherine quietly put the comic away and met Marcus's tearful eyes. "Marcus, I'm holding onto these for now. I'll give them back when you're discharged."
Marcus, looking defeated, lay on the hospital bed, pretending everything hurt. "I feel awful. Am I dying? Catherine, if I go, make sure to tell me how the comic ends."
Catherine stayed silent, thinking, 'Is this really my dignified grandfather? He's turned into a comic-obsessed rogue. If people knew, they'd be shocked.'
She had no choice but to give one comic back to Marcus. "If I find out you stayed up all night reading this, I'll take it away too."
"Alright, alright!" Marcus jumped up, grabbed the comic, and rushed back to his room, afraid Catherine would take it back. Halfway out, he remembered something important and ran back to take several selfies with Catherine. "Let's see if Samuel dares to show off now. I've got selfies with Catherine too."
Marcus showed off for a bit, set one as his profile picture, and left with the comic.
Catherine watched him go, feeling helpless and speechless. At least he seemed healthy enough to jump around.
Felix sneered, "Catherine, I think Marcus has lost it. When you marry Alexander, live with me instead. Don't stay with Marcus, or he'll corrupt my great-grandson."
'I'm not even sure if Alexander and I are getting married, and Felix is already planning the future,' she thought. Seeing Felix so happy, Catherine didn't have the heart to burst his bubble, so she said, "I'll come see you tomorrow."
"Alright, don't work too hard," Felix said, holding Catherine's hand. He sneakily pulled out a small box from under the bed and quickly stuffed it into her hand when Alexander wasn't looking.
When Alexander glanced over, Felix acted like nothing happened and whispered to Catherine, "Catherine, I know you've been working hard on my meds. I've lived this long; a bit more or less medicine won't matter. Don't wear yourself out, okay?"
He patted her hand and pushed the small box into her sleeve, winking mischievously.
"I'm not tired. You rest up. I'll head out now," Catherine said.
"Alright, Alexander, see Catherine off. And you, get lost. You're an eyesore," Felix grumbled, pushing Alexander out. "You clueless jerk! What good are you here? Get out of my sight and follow Catherine. Do you even know how to chase a woman?"
Felix scolded Alexander thoroughly.
Seeing Alexander's helpless face, Catherine let out a soft laugh.
Seeing her laugh, Alexander instantly felt the knot in his heart dissolve.
Outside the hospital, Catherine handed Alexander a comic.
The entire comic was in Novian. As the head of the Howard Group, Alexander was fluent in multiple languages and had no trouble reading it, finishing it quickly.
"Vinehill Hospital? Do you think the comic's content is related to Vinehill Hospital?" he asked.
"Maybe. I'm not sure, but the appearance of both Vinehill Hospital and Angel's Haven Orphanage suggests this comic artist isn't simple."
Alexander nodded, understanding. "I'll look into it. Leave it to me."
"Let's split the work. Faceless Ones have a presence in Novia, but Shadow Syndicate doesn't," she said, recalling that last year, Faceless Ones took control of the Novia area in several missions, forcing Shadow Syndicate to withdraw.
Alexander chuckled, his deep voice resonating from his chest, sounding particularly sexy. "If you hadn't mentioned it, I would've almost forgotten that your group drove my people out of Novia last year. It's okay; Shadow Syndicate may not have a presence there, but the Howard Group does."
"Are you holding a grudge?" she asked.
Seeing her slightly furrowed brows, Alexander's face softened with affectionate smiles. "I wouldn't dare. You have ultimate authority over both the Shadow Syndicate and the Howard Group, including me."
Alexander took a step closer to Catherine, slightly bending to get closer to her. "So, can you tell me what Felix just gave you?"
Alexander had seen Felix's sneaky actions but knew how rare it was for Felix to be so fond of someone, so he didn't stop him from giving Catherine whatever he considered valuable.
Catherine took out the small box, finding it had a small lock on it.
Seeing the box, Alexander's eyes softened.
He was about to say it was a box he played with as a child and that the key was at his home, requiring a specific method to open. But then he saw Catherine take off her hairpin and easily open the intricately designed box!
