Chapter 206 Concealing the Truth
Since their last run-in, Ethan knew Alexander would come sniffing around again. Or rather, he'd be after Matthew, the guy who knew it all.
Alexander casually tossed aside the blood-stained knife and wiped his mouth with his gloves. It wasn't his blood, and it still reeked.
He found a seat and plopped down. His crew immediately lined up behind him, squaring off against Ethan's guys.
Alexander radiated a chilling vibe, sneering at Ethan, "You knew I'd come, yet you still sent the Thunderstrike Mercenaries to their deaths. You've got guts."
"You said it yourself, I didn't expect them to actually kill you. It's a pity, though. Nightfall is still Nightfall." Ethan laughed darkly, no regret in his eyes.
Ethan thought, 'When I was in Imperia City, the Windsor Family tormented me, almost trapping me in Stellara. Returning to the border only to live under someone else's thumb? No way! Neither the Faceless Ones nor the Shadow Syndicate should outrank the Abyssal Blades. The organization my brothers and I built will rule the border! It's a shame the Thunderstrike Mercenaries and the Hughes Family are so useless. Truly regrettable!'
Alexander's words were ice-cold. "I'm in a hurry and don't want to waste time with you. Give me Matthew, or you die."
"What's the difference? I'm curious, how did you survive the siege?" Ethan asked.
Alexander narrowed his eyes and released the safety on his revolver as Ethan's crew raised their guns, aiming at him.
Ethan waved his hand. "Put them down. Fighting is so boring. Nightfall, I can't give you Matthew. If you have questions, ask him here!"
This was Ethan's biggest concession. Matthew, a heavyweight in the Abyssal Blades, held a crucial position. He couldn't let Alexander take him away.
Alexander nodded slightly and handed his gun to Annie behind him. Ethan visibly relaxed and had someone push Matthew out.
Matthew seemed unfazed by the chaos, smiling at Alexander. "Nightfall, long time no see. Why are you alone? Didn't Blackfire come?"
Alexander wasn't there for chit-chat. "Answer my questions. If I'm satisfied, you live."
"Go ahead."
"The person who gave you the orders was Sirius from the Galactic Aurora Collective, right?" Alexander's face was icy, and his words were chilling. "What does my mother's death have to do with the Galactic Aurora Collective?"
Matthew was momentarily stunned. "Sirius? I don't know his codename, but your mother's death was due to the Howard Family infighting. As for whether the Galactic Aurora Collective was involved, I don't know. I don't have the clearance to know such things. I can only tell you that the Chessmaster's abilities are beyond your imagination. At the very least, they helped us escape from Imperia City back to the border."
They also had the power to let the Thunderstrike Mercenaries make a grand entrance into Imperia City and even cut off the highway!
Alexander sneered, his gaze as sharp as a blade. He turned and took the gun from Annie's hand, quickly pulling the trigger before anyone could react. The bullet hit Ethan's leg. "This is the price for provoking me. There are too many people in the Abyssal Blades. Just you three brothers are enough."
As soon as Alexander finished speaking, his crew simultaneously pulled their triggers, and the Abyssal Blades' assassins dropped like flies. "Two members of the Shadow Syndicate are dead. There must be a price to pay."
Ethan clutched his bleeding leg, his eyes bloodshot. Alexander turned and walked away, his gaze as cold as a demon from hell.
Ethan stared at the bodies of the assassins around him, gritting his teeth. "Does he really think we can't do anything to him?"
Matthew, rummaging through a medical kit, replied, "For now, we really can't."
Right now, besides the Abyssal Blades members out on missions, it was just the three brothers left, and they were either sick or injured.
Matthew's gaze, hidden behind his glasses, paused for a moment. "But, we still have the boss!"
Alexander walked out of the Abyssal Blades' territory, letting out a long sigh, his brows still furrowed with intense coldness.
Annie took out a phone and handed it to him. "Sir, it's Ms. Windsor calling. Do you want to answer?"
Alexander took the phone and pressed the answer button, his tone instantly becoming gentle. "Catherine, what's up?"
Catherine asked, "Where are you?"
"At the border. The Howard Group has some trade here, and a few factories had issues, so I'm here to handle them. Is something wrong?"
Catherine frowned slightly. There was a heavy sound of wind and sand on his end, which didn't sound like a factory but more like an open area. She called because she remembered that last night, when Alexander stood on her balcony, he had a strong smell of blood on him. "Nothing, Felix was asking when you'll be back."
Since Felix moved in, he had been having meals with the Windsor Family every day. Every time he sat at the table, he thought of Alexander, who left such a beautiful fiancée alone just to work.
Felix got angry just thinking about how inconsiderate Alexander was. He rolled his eyes and claimed his phone was dead, asking Catherine to make the call for him.
Alexander could hear Felix's robust voice, most of it cursing him. "Soon, I'll come back as soon as I finish things here."
"Alright."
After he hung up, Alexander's gaze fell on a distant ruin. Annie was a bit worried. "Sir, if you don't tell Ms. Windsor the truth, won't she be angry if she finds out?"
"It doesn't matter. If I don't do these things, she will. It's better for her to be angry than to be in danger." Years ago, when Alexander lost his mother, he swore that such a thing would never happen again.
He smiled. "If I encounter danger and Catherine doesn't care, that's also a good thing."
Annie opened her mouth but didn't say anything, thinking, 'I can't understand Alexander's thoughts. He likes Catherine, so shouldn't he want her to worry about him and then act all pitiful? If she knew about it, she'd definitely be touched.'
Alexander strode towards the ruins. "Let's go, check out the abandoned lab of the Galactic Aurora Collective. And investigate that Sirius. I want detailed information on him!"
'Let me see what kind of life she used to live!' Alexander thought.
The Windsor Mansion.
After cursing Alexander, Felix started cursing his three children, from his eldest daughter to his two sons, only stopping when he was satisfied.
Marcus snorted, "Shut up. At least I have my children and grandchildren around me, unlike you."
"Marcus, what good does it do you if you really piss me off?" Felix asked.
"It lets me eat more," Marcus said.
Felix rolled his eyes in exasperation. "Catherine, don't blame Alexander. That kid just has a lot on his mind! After all, he watched his mother die back then. But he really likes you!"
It was the first time Catherine heard Felix talk about Alexander's mother.
"Back then, Alexander was hiding in a cabinet when the enemies came. His mother died right in front of him. I shouldn't be telling you these sad stories, but I just hope you can give Alexander a chance!" Felix's words were sincere, and Catherine was shocked. She nodded, agreeing to give it a thought.
Her phone received an encrypted message: [Miss, half an hour ago, Nightfall took out most of the Abyssal Blades and injured Ethan!]
Catherine raised an eyebrow slightly, realizing Alexander wasn't there to handle business.
