Chapter 42 Pursue Her Openly and Honestly!
On the second floor of MoonlightSunlit Mansion, Catherine's getting all dolled up.
The Windsor fam pulled in the top-notch makeup crew just for Catherine.
"Girl, your face is a work of art, and that waist? Damn, it's the tiniest I've ever seen!"
"Seriously, you're like a masterpiece from the heavens!"
In the mirror, Catherine's light makeup just made her already killer looks even more jaw-dropping. You couldn't look away if you tried!
Aurora grinned, "Catherine, you're a knockout! I really hit the jackpot with you!"
Esme strolled in, handing over her phone.
"Aurora, Lila's on the line. She needs a word."
Lila's voice boomed through the phone, "Catherine, why didn't you come to take care of me today? Get your butt to the hospital, now!"
Aurora looked a bit awkward, "Lila, it's Catherine's birthday bash today. We've got a ton of people to meet later, so no time for the hospital. I'll set up twenty caregivers for you."
"Caregivers? Seriously? Family's different! If Catherine's got a problem with me, just say it."
Aurora's smile froze.
Catherine, cool as a cucumber, said, "Yeah, I despise you."
Lila lost it.
"I knew it! But guess what? You're still part of the Windsor fam, so you gotta call me Grandma! I don't care what you're doing today, get to the hospital! Or I'll tell the press you're a disrespectful brat, unworthy of the Windsor name!"
Lila sneered, "And don't think I don't know you swiped my pearl necklace, you little thief!"
Aurora snapped, "Lila, Catherine's Brandon's and my daughter, your granddaughter. Calling her a brat is too much!"
"I don't care. She's got bad character, even stealing my necklace! No idea who she got that from!"
Aurora almost laughed out of sheer frustration.
'Lila would never badmouth Brandon, so she's saying I have bad character, and that's why Catherine's like this!'
Esme was nearly in stitches.
"Catherine, did you really take Lila's stuff?"
Her eyes were gleaming with anticipation.
'If Catherine really took Lila's stuff, with all the people at the party today, the Windsor fam would definitely not want a thief for a daughter.'
Catherine frowned slightly, her face as stunning as a masterpiece.
"The necklace on my neck, the earrings, and the bracelet together are worth hundreds of millions. The dress is a custom Quinn piece. I wouldn't even glance at a $30,000 pearl necklace."
Lila fumed, "What are you saying? That I'm poor?"
"If that's how you wanna take it, I can't help you. But when I left yesterday, the necklace was still on your wrist," Catherine said.
Lila's pearl necklace was always with her.
Whether Catherine took it or not, Lila knew the truth.
Hearing the value of Catherine's stuff, the makeup artists were floored.
'We knew the Windsor fam was loaded, but this is next level!'
Esme was green with envy. 'Why couldn't all this be mine? If Lila drags Catherine to the hospital today, when the global live stream starts, I'd be the one stepping in, becoming the true Windsor daughter!'
Lila, still fuming, said, "So you're not coming today? Fine, I'll call the reporters and tell them you're a disrespectful granddaughter!"
She hung up with a snap.
The room went dead silent.
'So this is what a rich family feud looks like?'
The makeup artists were thinking, 'Are they gonna silent us forever?'
Aurora couldn't hold it in and started bawling.
"She used to treat me like crap. Brandon and I didn't even get a proper wedding. Samuel and Grace always thought the Windsor family was a joke and haven't been around for years. She made me wash clothes outside in the winter and cook for her. My parents never even tasted my cooking! She wouldn't let me sit at the table during meals. When Charles was born, she only let me eat veggies every day, saying I was fat, almost giving me postpartum depression. Thank God Brandon took me away! Why's she coming after you now? I've had enough!"
Hearing what happened, Brandon and the boys rushed over.
Brandon hugged Aurora, heartbroken.
"It's all your fault. Lila's too much! Tormenting me wasn't enough, now she's bullying Catherine! Brandon, I'm telling you, if anything goes wrong at Catherine's birthday party today, I'm divorcing you!"
"Divorce?! No way, I can't live without you!" Brandon said.
Charles frowned a bit, looked at Catherine, and said, "Catherine, you don't have to go. We'll handle it."
Lila was just looking for trouble anyway.
Esme quickly chimed in, "But Lila specifically asked for Catherine. It's not like she doesn't know people. Otherwise, I could go. I really don't want Catherine's first birthday party at home to be ruined."
Catherine, cool as ever, said, "It's fine. I got this."
She pulled out her phone and called Marcus, giving him the lowdown.
Marcus chuckled, "Got it. Enjoy your birthday. I'll deal with Lila."
Marcus wasn't in great health and had a special status, so he usually skipped big events.
Catherine asked, a bit skeptical, "Marcus, can you handle it?"
"What are you talking about? Just watch me!"
Feeling challenged, Marcus headed straight to Lila's room.
He sternly told Lila, who was lying in bed, "If Catherine can't have a good birthday today, I'm divorcing you!"
The Windsor family was floored.
'Is this for real?'
Lila was silent for a moment, then burst into tears!
"You old fool."
Marcus chuckled into the phone, looking for praise, "Catherine, am I awesome or what? Enjoy your birthday, my gift's on its way!"
"Thanks, Marcus."
The Windsor family breathed a sigh of relief, and Aurora finally stopped crying.
Esme was stunned.
'Why is Marcus also on Catherine's side? They must not know her true nature! As soon as the Windsor family finds out that Catherine's been secretly dating a driver, they'll definitely be disappointed in her!'
Sunlit Mansion, Starry Residence
Annie handed a gift to Alexander and said with a bow, "Mr. Howard, the gifts for the Windsor family are all set. Also, the blue diamond necklace you won at the auction last time is packed too."
"For what?" Alexander asked.
Annie replied confidently, "After you break off the engagement today, you can openly give Catherine a gift! The necklace you won at the auction last time suits Catherine's vibe perfectly. She'll definitely love it and see how sincere you are!"
Alexander was a bit tempted.
The blue diamond, known as the Queen's Crown, was super rare. Its previous owner was the most noble princess of the royal family, and its value was off the charts.
'Thinking of Catherine's stunning face with that necklace, it does match perfectly!'
"Give it to me. After the engagement's called off, I'll go find Catherine."
"Yes, good luck!"
