Chapter 263 Being the Secret Lover?
When Charles brought Juniper back from the lab, he set up a meeting with Evander. They spent hours in the Evergreen Group's conference room, discussing Juniper.
Charles wanted Evander to take Juniper's situation seriously. "I called you here for Juniper. She's part of both the Windsor and Howard families. If you can't take care of her, the Windsor Family will."
Evander was shocked to hear from Charles about what Juniper had endured at the lab. He had thought that being in a different lab would let her focus on her research without any issues. "I'll get to the bottom of this and make sure Juniper isn't mistreated. But before I make any decisions, I need to see her."
When it came to Juniper, Evander had no real say.
Charles agreed and shared stories about Juniper's childhood, which left Evander feeling both sad and relieved.
Eventually, Charles went off to another meeting, leaving Evander alone with his face in his hands and shoulders shaking.
When Juniper got Evander's call, she was completely taken aback! She clutched her stuffed toy, feeling torn.
Catherine, ever considerate, asked, "Do you want to see him? If not, then don't. If you do, then go."
Juniper suddenly sat up. "How about you and Mr. Howard come with me!"
Catherine raised an eyebrow, puzzled about why Juniper wanted Alexander to come along.
"You're on my side, and Alexander is from the Howard Family. One representative from each side, perfect!" Juniper explained.
'Besides, having Catherine there will give me courage, but what if Evander tries to trick her?' Juniper thought.
It was a thorough plan. Catherine had never seen such a family-representative approach before.
Juniper patted Catherine's shoulder. "By the way, let's see who Alexander would choose between you and the Howard Family. If he chooses you, it means he doesn't care about his family. If he doesn't choose you, then he's not worth marrying!"
The logic was simple and blunt.
Catherine's eye twitched, and she raised an eyebrow. "Juniper, are you planning a showdown with Evander?"
'It's come to choosing sides. Shouldn't I call for more backup?' Catherine wondered.
"No, the most important thing now," Juniper said, pulling the blanket over her face, "is to sleep! Whatever happens, we'll deal with it tomorrow morning. Catherine, remember to bring Alexander. If I say something too harsh and Evander wants to hit me, Alexander has to step in. Otherwise, I won't let you marry him."
Catherine sighed, realizing Juniper's real intention was to have Alexander as a bodyguard.
The next morning, Juniper came downstairs with dark circles under her eyes as the Windsor Family was having breakfast.
Marcus glanced at her and asked, "Juniper, did you stay up late playing games last night?"
Juniper yawned and took her seat. "No, Evander said he wanted to meet me, and I couldn't sleep half the night."
Felix paused from spreading peanut butter on his bread. "You plan to see him? It's good to talk. Say whatever you want; I'm always on your side."
After Juniper got back from Phoenix Lab, Evander hadn't seen her at all.
Besides quietly transferring his assets and shares to Juniper after Felix acknowledged her, Evander stayed holed up in the lab, buried in research.
Felix was still worried that Juniper might be upset after seeing Evander.
Juniper caught Felix's worried look and reassured him, "It's okay, Grandpa. I'm taking Catherine and Alexander with me!"
"Alright, alright. Evander can't take on Alexander. If you don't like him, let Alexander rough him up! And if Alexander doesn't help you, come back and tell me, and I'll beat them both up!" Felix said.
Juniper laughed and agreed.
Marcus snorted, "With your build, who can you beat? It'd be hilarious if you threw out your back."
Marcus and Felix started bickering again, and the Windsor Family was used to it.
Catherine glanced at Charles, who had just come downstairs, still in his pajamas with dark circles under his eyes.
"Morning, Charles. Rough night?" Catherine asked.
"Just stayed up late reading financial reports," Charles replied.
Philip, wearing a flashy floral shirt with a few buttons undone, showing off his collarbone and sexy Adam's apple, looked particularly eye-catching.
Charles winced just looking at him. "Philip, you're a lawyer. Dress normally."
"Charles, I'm not going to court today. Just meeting a client to discuss a case. Doesn't matter what I wear," Philip said. He only dressed formally for court. Otherwise, his wardrobe was full of flashy clothes, especially floral shirts.
Philip tugged at his collar, showing off the embroidery Catherine had hand-stitched for him, making Catherine smile wryly.
Quinn Couture's hand-stitched clothes were pricey, but not to the extent that a well-known lawyer like Philip would treasure them so much.
It was simply because Philip loved her too much!
Philip rested his chin on his hand, looking at Charles. "Charles, aren't you going to clear things up with your ex-girlfriend? It's such a pity you two broke up."
Charles didn't even look up. "What do you want me to clear up with a married woman? Do you want me to interfere in her marriage and ruin her family, or be a secret lover?"
Philip shrugged. "Then forget it. You two just aren't meant to be."
"There are a few tricky international collaborations recently. You'll be responsible for Catherine's school matters during this time. Call me if anything comes up. I'll give you her teacher's contact info later," Charles said.
"Okay!" Philip was eager to spend more time with Catherine. Previously, Charles had handled all of Catherine's matters, and they couldn't find any opportunities! From now on, Catherine would be his!
After breakfast, Philip drove his flashy red sports car out of Starry Residence, whistling as he dialed the contact Charles had sent to his phone.
"Is this Philip? I'm Gabriella. I'm at the agreed coffee shop waiting for you. I've already arrived. Would you like something to drink?"
Gabriella's opening line made Philip pause! He quickly checked the contact info and realized this was the client he was supposed to meet today!
"No need, I'll be there soon. Please wait a moment!" he said.
