Chapter 259 Manipulating Public Opinion?
Sophia suddenly wrapped her arms around Catherine's waist, nuzzling against her like a lost puppy. "After that last stone gambling event, Oscar told me to stick with you, Catherine! So, from now on, I'm your girl! You gotta treat me right! And when you marry Mr. Howard, you better take us with you!"
Sophia thought, 'If Catherine can lead the Galactic Aurora Collective, take over the Shadow Syndicate, and snag a hot husband, we'll be ruling the frontier in no time!'
Richard's attention snapped to them. "Catherine, why'd you come with Alexander this time? When I called earlier, were you two..."
From his awkward angle, Richard could only see Catherine and Alexander hugging, looking like they were about to kiss!
Good thing he spoke up when he did!
Who knew what might've happened if he hadn't. The idea of sweet, innocent Catherine running off with another guy made Richard's heart ache!
Catherine chimed in, "After I got the call, Alexander brought me here. I haven't told Charles yet; I'll fill him in when I get back."
Even though the Windsor kids could handle things on their own, they never kept secrets from each other.
No matter what went down, they always shared everything with their family!
The crew leader walked over with a smile. "Mr. Windsor, we're still a bit worried and have arranged a car to take you to the hospital for a check-up!"
Richard raised an eyebrow and shot the leader a look, sneering, "Is it that the news can't be kept under wraps, and you're hoping we can do some PR now?"
The leader's intentions were laid bare, and he nodded with an awkward smile.
Somehow, the news that Richard and Sophia had gone missing spread like wildfire!
Richard's phone was blowing up with calls from the Windsor Family.
Sophia was also getting bombarded with calls from the media.
These coincidences were too much; it had to be deliberate!
Catherine thought for a moment. "Richard, can we hold off on the PR for now?"
"Of course! Whatever you say, Catherine!" Richard didn't even ask why and immediately agreed to Catherine's suggestion. He completely ignored the few crew leaders who were on the verge of tears.
"Mr. Windsor, if we don't clarify, the crew will suffer significant losses."
Catherine's cold gaze fell on the leader, carrying an air of authority that made people wary, as if she could see right through them. "Richard and Sophia got into trouble mainly because of the crew's security issues. Whether it was leaking the filming location or letting them get attacked at night, it's all your fault."
The leader tried to argue, "These were accidents; we didn't expect such things to happen."
Catherine sneered, "Then how did the news leak out as they were found? Did the news spread on its own? You just saw that they were safe and wanted to use this opportunity to create some buzz! Such a big incident is practically free trending news. If Richard and Sophia clarify now, the crew won't suffer any losses."
The crew wouldn't just avoid losses; they could also guide public opinion from the victim's perspective!
After all, it was all the fault of the crazy fans; the crew were victims too.
The leader's eyes darted around. "Ms. Windsor, if the crew leaked the news, wouldn't we be criticized for poor security? We are very concerned about Mr. Windsor and Ms. Grey's safety and would never do such things!"
Catherine's eyes flashed with a hint of contempt. "We can find out who leaked the news with a proper investigation."
Sophia called Venus over. "Venus, track the IP."
Without a word, Venus whipped out his laptop.
The crew leader wasn't too worried; the signal in this small village was weak. To get online, you had to climb the mountain to find a signal, let alone investigate anything.
But then they saw Venus's hands moving rapidly, typing on the laptop with fingers so fast they left afterimages. Three minutes later, Venus turned the screen around. "It was someone from the crew who sold the news, spreading it through those marketing accounts."
The screen showed several screenshots of the director's conversations with the marketing accounts. Without exception, they all instructed to blow the matter up! The bigger the issue, the more benefits the crew would gain!
Whether it was hyping up Richard being kidnapped by crazy fans or being harassed at night, it was all excellent material.
The crew could then buy a few trending topics and send the two to the hospital, manipulating public opinion perfectly.
Catherine looked at the screenshots with disdain. "Seems like the director thought it through very well, knowing how to guide public opinion. But Richard and Sophia shouldn't be your tools for hype!"
The director felt a bit guilty. Looking at Catherine's sharp and clear eyes, which seemed to see through everything, he was terrified as he thought, 'Ms. Windsor seems even scarier than Richard, the long-established movie star! But no matter how scary, she is just a young girl, rumored to be a freshman in college. What can such a young kid know? A little trickery will do!'
"Ms. Windsor, you don't understand. This is all for Mr. Windsor and Ms. Grey's benefit. This buzz is real and will benefit them both. Ms. Windsor, it's normal that you don't understand the industry, but we are all thinking about Mr. Windsor's career!" the director said.
Catherine curled her lips. "For Richard's career, you sold his address to crazy fans? As far as I know, Richard's current phone number was changed after joining the crew!"
Only the director's team, Richard's agent, and the Windsor Family knew Richard's new number. And the number was registered under Richard's assistant's name, so crazy fans couldn't find it! Unless someone had sold the information in advance, leading the crazy fans to Richard's location!
The director was panicking, thinking, 'How did Catherine, a young girl, know about these things?! We have always been very discreet in doing such things, and it has become a complete hype model. The crew sell information to the crazy fans, who would then harass and cause trouble, and the crew buy a few trending topics to hype it up. Catherine must be making things up!'
"Ms. Windsor, you can't just say things without evidence. We would never do something so unprofessional."
"Ms. Windsor, Richard has been in the entertainment industry for many years and understands a lot. If you don't understand, you should leave first!" This was out of anger and an attempt to get Catherine to leave.
Richard angrily said, "What do you mean? How can you talk to my sister like that!"
He blocked Catherine with one hand, protecting her wrist behind him.
Alexander, with a sharp gaze and a low aura, looked displeased. Standing behind Catherine, he had already made the director nervous!
Alexander lightly curled his lips, calmly saying, "Who just said my fiancée was talking nonsense? I think every word she said is spot on!"
