Chapter 175 Brandon Confronts Evander
Brandon grabbed Juniper's phone and listened to the recording a few times. "What the heck is this guy saying? Am I missing something?"
Juniper blinked, feeling overwhelmed by all the info from the recording. What did it mean that she was Evander's kid?
Charles walked over to Juniper. "Dad, I remember Evander never got married. How could he have a kid?"
'Maybe Jacob got it wrong? With so many kids in the orphanage, it's easy to mix things up,' Charles thought.
Brandon shook his head. "That's all in the past. I heard his fiancée died in an accident before they could get married. But that's not the point!"
The point was, this whole thing was just too crazy to believe!
Aurora looked at Juniper, worried. "Juniper, what do you think?"
With her family looking at her expectantly, Juniper slowly shook her head. "I don't know. Let's get a DNA test with Evander first."
Brandon slapped his forehead. "Right, let's do a DNA test first! What if that Jacob guy is just making stuff up?"
Alexander's recording was also sent to Evander's phone. He listened to it over and over! Whether it was Angel's Haven Orphanage or Vinehill Hospital, Evander had checked them out many times! Jacob's words were a bit all over the place, but Evander didn't want to miss any details.
The Windsor Family showed up at Evander's office in a big group. Brandon, knowing Evander might be Juniper's real dad, looked at him with a complicated expression and got straight to the point. "Evander, we need a few strands of your hair!"
Evander looked up at the Windsor Family, especially at Juniper, who hadn't said a word. "You all heard that recording too?"
"Yeah, we did. Let's see if what that guy said is true first," Brandon said.
Evander sighed deeply, pulled out some of his hair, put it in a sealed bag, and handed it to Juniper. "Galactic Aurora Collective Lab has faster DNA testing equipment than we do."
Juniper frowned slightly. "You don't seem surprised at all?"
'Did Evander already know about this?' Juniper wondered.
Evander pulled out a pocket watch from under his lab coat, opened it, and looked at the photo inside. Reluctantly, he handed it to Juniper.
Just seeing this photo, the Windsor Family was stunned!
The woman in the photo looked so much like Juniper; it was almost like looking at a twin.
Evander gave a bitter smile. "Looks a lot like you, doesn't she? The first time I saw you, I thought you looked just like her! Juniper, go get the DNA test."
Charles frowned and said, "Evander, if you thought Juniper might be your daughter, why didn't you say anything?"
Evander clenched his fists, his voice filled with deep sorrow. "How could I say anything? I didn't even know I might have a child! Pal died, and no one could tell me the truth. Even if she is my child, should I have said something?"
His gaze lingered on Brandon and Aurora. "You all love her, and I can't even tell her how Pal passed away! I'm a failed father; what right do I have to mess up Juniper's happiness?"
'The Windsor Family loves Juniper so much. They video call her every day, send her good stuff from Imperia City all the time, and if they hear Juniper is upset, Grace and Samuel would want to tear down the research institute. And I'm just a guy with nothing,' Evander thought.
Juniper looked at the woman in the photo, smiling softly, and tears welled up in her eyes. "When did you find out I was your kid?"
"Last year. Remember when the research institute collected DNA from all the researchers? I used my authority to copy it and did a DNA test." Just looking alike wasn't enough to convince Evander until he saw the DNA report.
Brandon, fuming, said, "Since you did the DNA test, why didn't you just show the report? Why waste Juniper's time?"
Just looking at Evander made him angrier. Brandon snatched the paternity test report from Evander and sneered, "Our family loves Juniper. When Aurora got married, she said she was an only child and wanted a lively family with five kids. But that's no excuse for you not to acknowledge Juniper as your child! When I found out Catherine was our child, I immediately brought her back. How could you see Juniper and not acknowledge her? How could you be so heartless? Evander, Juniper has always been a kind girl. Even if your wife died early and Juniper never got to see her mother, she wouldn't blame you. Do you know how considerate Juniper is? She's so afraid Catherine would be unhappy with her presence that she doesn't even dare to go home! You have no idea how wonderful Juniper is! You didn't acknowledge her; you're just a coward! My child doesn't even want to acknowledge you!"
Brandon slammed the paternity test report on the table, his neck veins bulging in anger.
Juniper stared blankly at Brandon, thinking the Windsor Family didn't know about the things she had done.
Aurora hugged Juniper, gently touching her face with a pained expression. "Juniper, if you don't want to acknowledge him, you'll always be a Windsor. You and Catherine are both my daughters, and we'll be together as a family."
Brandon snorted coldly, "Let's go home! Since you knew Juniper was your child and didn't acknowledge her, and even let her be mistreated, I'll make sure your lab gets shut down!"
Charles coughed and quietly said, "Dad, that's too much. Phoenix Lab is national property."
Brandon held Juniper's hand, looking coldly at Evander. "Juniper, let's go home. Your grandma has long wanted to get you a new lab. If you want to do experiments, the Windsor Family will invest in a bigger lab for you. My daughter doesn't need to put up with anyone's attitude."
Aurora agreed, "Yes, let's go home!"
The family left as they had come, leaving behind a sorrowful Evander.
He looked at the pocket watch Juniper had left on the table, feeling immense grief, wondering whether he had really made a mistake.
As soon as they left Tranquil County, Aurora video-called Catherine. "Catherine, what that person said is true, but we don't acknowledge it."
Aurora recounted what had happened at the lab, and on the other end of the call, Brandon's angry outbursts could still be heard, clearly showing his disdain for Evander's actions.
"What does Juniper think? As long as Juniper is happy, nothing else matters," Catherine said.
Hearing this, Aurora felt touched. 'Look at how considerate and lovely my daughter is!'
Juniper leaned in to look at Catherine, her eyes red but smiling gently when she saw her. "Catherine, thank you. I know a big reason you went to Ironclad Jail was for me. I really love you!"
