Chapter 121 Catherine Meets Lila!
Catherine glanced at her phone and handed it to Marcus.
"She wants you to get it? Just ignore her. She has to agree to the divorce, whether she likes it or not. The plane's already set; she's outta here tomorrow!" Marcus thought about Lila's antics over the years and felt no sympathy.
Given the unique nature of his marriage, his years on the military base, and his heartbreak after Elodie's death, Marcus was stunned when Lila showed up with a kid, claiming it was his. He couldn't remember ever being with Lila, but she insisted he was drunk and they hooked up.
After a DNA test confirmed the kid was his, Marcus, following orders, married Lila. Years had passed since then. Brandon was definitely his son, but who his mom was still remained a mystery. Maybe Marcus had been played for over fifty years!
Marcus turned to Alexander and said, "Since Lila's being stubborn and wants Catherine to get the divorce papers, Alexander, go with her. Remember, you're from the Howard family, not the Windsor family!"
"Got it. I'll protect Catherine," Alexander replied.
Marcus nodded, satisfied.
He had Alexander go with Catherine because it wasn't the right time for someone from the Windsor family to show up. Alexander, being Catherine's fiancé and head of the Howard family, wouldn't be easily dismissed by Lila.
Samuel smiled at Catherine. "Catherine, I got you a jewelry design company. You can use it to practice and create whatever you want; I'll buy everything!"
Ever since Samuel found out Catherine was into jewelry design, he'd been hunting for a company for her. A medium-sized one was perfect—not too big to stress her out, but enough to let her shine.
"I heard you revamped the music store and gallery. Is our Catherine a business whiz?" Samuel teased.
Marcus got a bit anxious, thinking, 'Catherine is my precious granddaughter; she can't be the business genius from the Martinez family!'
"Catherine, I bought a hotel for you. If you're not happy with your place, you can stay at the hotel!" Marcus said.
Catherine felt overwhelmed. 'Why do I need so many companies? The ones I have are already managed by the Galactic Aurora Collective!'
Brandon chimed in, "Dad, what are you talking about? Catherine's school is just five miles from home; she can just drive back! By the way, Catherine, you should find time to get your driver's license!"
Getting a license was just a matter of convenience; Catherine just hadn't had the time. When patrolling the border, she didn't need one; she could handle those big vehicles just fine!
Catherine nodded and stood up. "Alright, I'll find time to learn. I'll head to the hospital to get the divorce papers first."
"Come back early for dinner; we'll wait for you!" Marcus said.
Alexander stood by her side, helping with her handbag, his actions smooth and natural.
The elders watched with relief, thinking they made a perfect pair! Tall and handsome Alexander, with his chiseled features and piercing eyes, stood protectively over the petite and delicate Catherine. Their gazes were filled with tenderness! They looked like they were made for each other!
As Catherine and Alexander left, Marcus turned to Brandon and the other Windsor family juniors. "Go mind your own business; we have our own matters to discuss."
Though Marcus was getting on in years, with graying temples, his eyes were still sharp and commanding, exuding an aura of authority and decisiveness!
At his command, Brandon and his sons quickly bowed. "Yes."
Marcus looked at Samuel sitting opposite him and picked up the chess set beside him. "Come on, let's play a game."
Samuel squinted at him for a moment, then smiled. "Who wouldn't dare? Let's play!"
"If you lose, you have to tell me a truth!" Marcus said. To seek the truth, one must pay the corresponding price!
"Win first, then we'll talk."
Alexander's car stopped at the entrance of Bright Heal Hospital, and Andrew ran up to take the car keys. "Ms. Catherine Windsor, Mr. Howard, Ms. Lila Windsor refuses to sign. I still need to file the report!"
Marcus had no interest in keeping the signed report, but it needed to be archived. That's why Andrew was still waiting here.
Alexander held Catherine's hand as they walked into the hospital. "Did she sign?"
"She signed but wouldn't give it to me. When I went to get it, she accused me of harassment." Andrew's face was grim as he said, thinking, 'I am forty! I have a wife and kids! No way will I make a move on my former leader's wife... no, ex-wife, at Bright Heal Hospital! But Lila is notoriously shameless. Her loud accusations have drawn the attention of everyone on the floor, who looks at me with sympathy and pity! Clearly, they know Lila's temperament and don't want to get involved, fearing trouble for themselves.'
Catherine looked at Andrew with some sympathy. "Thanks for your hard work. Since she signed, she's no longer my grandmother."
Andrew was stunned. "Ms. Windsor, what do you mean?"
'Even if she signed, Lila is still Brandon's mother and Catherine's grandmother by blood, right?' Andrew thought.
Catherine smiled, revealing her adorable dimples. "I'm not on the family register yet."
'Since Oliver and Celeste publicly disowned me, I have been independent and am the sole owner of Moonlight Mansion at Starry Residence! Since I'm not on the family register, why does Lila think she can control me?' Catherine thought.
Andrew realized this, his eyes brightening, but he was still worried about Catherine's safety. After all, Lila was a habitual offender of playing the seniority card, and Catherine seemed so gentle and well-mannered.
As Catherine and Alexander entered the ward, Lila's eyes lit up when she saw Catherine. But before she could express her joy, she saw Alexander following behind Catherine!
'Why is Alexander here again? Does he really like Catherine that much?' Lila wondered.
"I told you to come alone. Don't you understand? Tell Alexander to leave! You little brat!" Lila cursed.
Catherine calmly sat on the chair opposite the hospital bed, her long legs crossed, eyes slightly open, chin raised as she looked at Lila, her gaze icy, her aura queen-like!
"You consider yourself human? Being the elder doesn't mean I have to respect you. We're all experiencing life for the first time, so stop pretending, you old hag!" Catherine scolded.
