Chapter 198 The Hughes Family Bankruptcy Countdown!

Catherine locked eyes with Alexander, feeling the gemstone ring on her hand heat up, making her palm tingle. "I can't take this. You should keep it."

"If you don't, everything I did today means nothing." Alexander, struggling, lifted his hand to gently ruffle Catherine's hair. "Even if you don't like me, please don't reject it, okay?"

Maybe due to the blood loss, Alexander's eyes had this pleading, vulnerable look that made Catherine feel a bit sorry for him.

She glanced at the ring in her palm, the rose-shaped gemstone shining brightly. Each gem sparkled, showing how much its previous owner valued it.

Alexander looked at her and softly said, "Please accept it, okay?"

Feeling the intensity of his gaze, Catherine quickly looked away. "Alright, I'll take it."

Seeing Alexander's joyful expression, she added, "It's not that I don't like you. Maybe I don't exactly like you either, but there's no need to test me."

She wasn't sure how she felt about Alexander. Saying she liked him might be too strong, but she definitely didn't dislike him.

"I'm not testing you; I just lack confidence," he said.

Catherine didn't say anything more. She carefully applied medicine to Alexander's wounds and handed him a new shirt, the latest design from Quinn Couture, not yet embroidered or labeled, looking like an ordinary shirt.

He probably wouldn't recognize it as Quinn's work.

Alexander looked at the shirt. The style was very similar to a few he had in his wardrobe.

High-end brands had their own distinct styles, and each brand had its unique flavor.

Catherine coughed and said seriously, "Take off your pants. You have injuries on your legs, abrasions from the explosion. Do you want to take them off yourself, or should I help you?"

Alexander looked at her and chuckled softly. "I can do it myself. I've always treated my own wounds before. Just get the medicine ready for me."

He gave her an ambiguous look. "I know you're a doctor, and in your eyes, there's no gender distinction. But I hope that in the future, you say such things in a different context, like in your bedroom. That would make me very happy."

Catherine's ears turned slightly red, but she kept a straight face. If he could still joke like that, he must be in good spirits.

She handed him the medicine. "Is Emilia's mother friends with your mother?"

"Yeah. They were friends back in the day, but she passed away after Emilia was born."

Catherine leaned against the wall, frowning. "Did you know Emilia before?"

"No, I didn't. Her mother passed away early, and so did mine. But I met her mother. So when she needed the Howard Family as a shield to find Felix, he helped her."

Felix liked Emilia partly because of her likable personality and partly because Emilia's mother was friends with Alexander's mother. Felix also treated Emilia like his own granddaughter.

Alexander looked up at Catherine. "Are you going to stay and watch me apply the medicine?"

Seeing Alexander's hand on his belt, about to undo it, Catherine quickly turned and walked away.

Alexander chuckled softly, extremely pleased.

The Hughes Manor.

Maurice rushed over to Anthony, his face pale with panic. "Grandpa, our business got hit with sanctions! They backed out of the deal, and now they're saying they won't work with us anymore."

Anthony's gaze drifted to the window as the moonlight spread over the quiet Hughes Manor. He picked up his teacup, gently blew away the floating tea leaves, and spoke calmly, "Why panic? This has happened before, hasn't it? Is it worth getting so worked up over?"

The secretary burst in, panting heavily. "Sir, the Blade of Dusk has been completely wiped out! The survivors were taken by the police! Our business is restricted, and your cards are frozen!"

Anthony's teacup fell onto the carpet! "What did you say? Who did this? I want to see who dares!"

"The gang was planning to attack Oscar today, but he brought the police and directly found several Blade of Dusk strongholds. We lost most of our people. The Windsor Family, the Howard Family, and Galactic Aurora Financial have all sanctioned our group's assets. We're going bankrupt!"

Anthony looked at the secretary in disbelief. "Are the Howard Family and the Windsor Family crazy?! And that Galactic Aurora Financial, a company that just got off the ground, dares to sanction me!"

The secretary stammered, "The Blade of Dusk sought help from the Thunderstrike Mercenaries, and they joined forces to attack Mr. Howard."

Anthony's eyes widened. 'Are these people crazy? They dare to attack Alexander! If they succeed, the Hughes Family will have one less formidable enemy, but if they fail, it will be the end of the Hughes Family!'

Anthony slumped to the ground, cold sweat covering his face. "Give me the phone. I need to make a call."

As soon as the call connected, Anthony hurriedly spoke, "Owen, you have to save me! The Hughes Family was built up with your support. Can you bear to see us go bankrupt?"

Owen leisurely made a move in his chess game, looking at Oscar across from him. "Your turn. Anthony, what did you say? The Hughes Family is going bankrupt? It's fine. You don't have much money anyway. Bankruptcy isn't a big deal. Oscar, don't take back your move!"

Anthony gritted his teeth. "Owen, I know I was wrong. I'll listen to you from now on and never oppose the Harrison Family again. Please save the Hughes Family. All the younger members of the Hughes Family will follow your orders!"

"When you get older, you like to joke around. When did the Hughes Family ever have the ability to oppose the Harrison Family? Anthony, I'll let you die knowing the truth." Owen looked at the chess piece in his hand and said calmly, "Maurice tried to harm my only granddaughter. You should have thought about the consequences."

Owen cheerfully hung up the phone and continued playing chess.

Anthony was bewildered and soon received a recording of Maurice instigating conflict between Juniper and Catherine! "The Hughes Family is in this situation because of you! But who is Owen's only granddaughter?"

Anthony couldn't figure it out and had no time to.

Maurice looked panicked. "Grandpa, I just wanted to have dinner with Ms. Windsor!"

Anthony slapped him! "Get out! You disgrace! If the Hughes Family goes bankrupt tonight, you should sleep on the streets!"

At the study door, Emilia leaned against the frame, chewing gum and blowing a bubble that popped with a snap. "Going bankrupt? Faster than I expected."
