Chapter 39 How could Alexander Be so Heartless to Her!
Catherine said coolly, "I know you didn't prescribe it, but if you don't handle this, any issues with this medication will be on you in the future."
Gavin started sweating bullets!
'Lila, she's Marcus's wife! If something goes wrong on my watch, my career's toast.' Just thinking about it made Gavin's stomach churn!
"How did this medication end up in Lila's prescription?" Gavin asked.
"The nurse said Lila added it herself, but you know how hard it is to get Vitality Pills on the black market. Our country has strict regulations on this drug."
Gavin nodded, frowning, "You're right. Even with my connections, it's hard to get this medication, let alone for her."
'Because this medication is so hard to obtain, if anything happened to Lila, I'd be fully responsible!' Gavin thought.
"I want you to give Lila a comprehensive check-up. Based on my observations, she seems to have some mental issues," Catherine said.
'When Lila just fell asleep, she was talking in her sleep, worrying about whether Marcus is cheating on her!'
'At her age, still worrying about her husband cheating, it is most likely a sign of Alzheimer's, or dementia,' she thought.
Gavin nodded, "Alright, I'll give her a check-up later. What should we do about this medication?"
Just looking at the medication in his hand made Gavin feel uneasy!
Catherine looked at him calmly and said, "I replaced it with sugar pills this morning. She didn't notice. Just find a similar substitute to replace it for now."
"Okay, got it. Why are you here? Did the Windsor family ask you to check on Lila? Do you want to join my lab? We have great benefits!"
Catherine remained silent.
The reason Gavin had been blocked by Catherine so many times was because he talked too much!
Annoyed, she made up an excuse, "I have joined George's lab. You can shut up now."
She figured she could just inform George later.
Gavin was shocked.
'What a pity!'
In the ward, Gavin cheerfully spoke to the just-awakened Lila, "Lila, let's do a more detailed check-up today. Marcus has already done his."
Having spent a lot of time with Lila, Gavin had figured out her temperament.
Whenever he mentioned that Marcus had done a check-up, Lila would always insist on having one too.
Sure enough, as soon as Gavin said that, she immediately extended her hand.
"Thank you."
As he examined her, Gavin cheerfully asked, "Lila, I noticed a very special medication in your prescription. Did you request it yourself?"
Lila had great trust in Gavin's medical skills.
Mentioning the medication, her face lit up with a smile and she said, "Esme brought it to me, saying it was a miracle drug she found just for me. You know, after taking it, I felt so much better!"
'Esme brought it?'
'It is indeed a miracle drug, but it made you feel strong and healthy at first, and taking too much could be fatal.'
'How did Esme get her hands on Vitality Pills?'
"Esme is so considerate and filial, unlike some others."
She said this while glaring viciously at Catherine, who was standing in the corner.
'So inconsiderate. Even now, while I am being examined, Catherine just stands there watching, not even offering to help!'
'If Esme were here, she would definitely be running around taking care of me!'
After the check-up, Gavin shot Catherine a look and told Lila, "Lila, the results will be out tomorrow. You're looking pretty healthy right now."
"Thanks. Catherine, see Gavin out."
"Okay."
Gavin and Catherine walked out together.
Watching them leave, Lila noticed Gavin still chatting with Catherine, her brow furrowing deeply.
'Gavin is usually so aloof. Whenever Esme was around, he would only give instructions on how to take care of me and wouldn't say another word to Esme. Why is he so chummy with Catherine? Could it be that there's something wrong with my health that Gavin doesn't dare to tell me? Not telling me but telling Catherine must be something that Aurora arranged!'
The more Lila thought about it, the more it made sense. She grabbed the glass in her hand and smashed it down as she screamed, "You all just want to see me dead! I won't let you have your way! Aurora, this isn't over between us!"
Screams echoed through the room.
Standing at the door of the ward, Gavin had just started discussing Lila's condition with Catherine when chaos erupted inside!
There were also sounds of caregivers trying to calm Lila down.
Catherine said calmly, "It's confirmed, early-stage Alzheimer's, and it's severe and irreversible."
'Lila has very severe delusions. From this alone, her condition is not light.' she thought.
Gavin sighed,
"I understand. I'll arrange to adjust Lila's medication."
"Thank you."

The Howard Tower was located in Imperia City's most expensive golden CBD area.
The towering buildings were incredibly grand, with the Howard Group's office buildings lined up, occupying the entire park.
Esme, wearing an exaggerated mini-dress, still insisted on carrying a frilly parasol even in the office building, arguing with the receptionist.
"I'm Alexander's fiancée. How dare you not let me in? Believe me, once I marry him, I'll fire you!"
The receptionist said with a polite smile, "Sorry, you don't have an appointment. I can't let you in."
"Appointment? I want to go in now! Call Alexander. He'll definitely let me up!"
The receptionist kept her professional smile and said, "You can also contact Mr. Howard yourself."
'I want to call Alexander, but he blocked my number!'
Today, Catherine had been called to take care of Lila, and Esme didn't want to spend the whole day in the ward with Lila.
So, she came to The Howard Tower, but the damn receptionist wouldn't let her in!
Esme was furious! 'The worst part is that the Howard Group has many young and beautiful female employees. Once I marry Alexander, I will fire them all!'
Alexander descended from his private elevator, looking dashing.
Esme's eyes lit up when she saw Alexander!
She, glaring at the receptionist, walked up to him and said, "Alexander, I came to pick you up from work. Let's go shopping together!"
Alexander didn't even look at her and said coldly, "Security, throw her out. If anyone unrelated to the Howard Group enters The Howard Tower again, you're all fired."
The security guards quickly came up, pulled Esme away, and threw her out!
Esme was heartbroken. 'How could Alexander be so cruel to me! I have clearly expressed my feelings to him! I don't believe it! Alexander must not know how good I am. Once he realizes, he would definitely change his mind.'
