Chapter 51 The Deadly Ingredients of Vitality Pills
Lily chimed in, "Catherine's here for an experiment, not a family reunion."
'An experiment? How old is she? Does she even know what she's doing with medicine?' everyone thought.
Catherine looked around and said, "I've got an appointment. Hope that's cool with everyone?"
Everyone was floored!
"Ms. Windsor, you think this is a joke? Even if you're Mr. Windsor's sister, you can't just mess around with science!"
Lily was a bit uneasy. 'George never mentioned Catherine bringing someone else!'
"Catherine, our lab's got strict rules. Your friend might not be able to come in."
"It's fine, he's got an access pass," Catherine replied.
The doctors exchanged puzzled looks.
'Does Ms. Windsor think this is some kind of playground?'
Gavin burst in like a whirlwind, worried Catherine had started without him.
"Catherine, I'm here! You haven't started yet, right? I can't miss this! Even if you did, you gotta let me watch!"
"If you were any later, you would've missed it. Come in, but you're just an assistant," Catherine said.
Gavin nodded eagerly, "Assistant? Awesome! I'd even be a cheerleader just to watch you work!"
Catherine stayed silent.
'I don't need a cheerleader for my experiments.'
Gavin followed Catherine into George's lab, leaving the doctors stunned!
'That's Gavin! Everyone in medical research knows him! And he's happy to be an assistant to a high schooler?'
The doctors who doubted Catherine were now freaking out and quickly asked Lily, "Lily, who is Ms. Windsor? Why haven't we heard of her before?"
"George's sister, a genius like him? No way! Let's go see!"
The doctors decided to follow them into the lab and asked, "Ms. Windsor, can we watch you work?"
Catherine nodded, "Sure, just don't get in my way."
George's lab was filled with his trusted team, and Catherine didn't mind them watching.
"Microscope, flat-cut pills, make a hundred control groups."
"Dissolve the reagent, put it in the centrifuge."
"Use the IHC experiment, put it under the medical microscope," Catherine instructed.
Gavin jumped into action, and seeing him struggle, Lily joined in to help.
The doctors went from skeptical to shocked! 'Catherine's not just doing experiments; she's working with the legendary Vitality Pills from the black market!'
Catherine's eyes were sharp as she looked at the stunned doctors and asked, "Anyone good at recording data?"
"Me! I'd be honored!"
"Sample slides, need three hundred groups," Catherine ordered.
"Me! My slides are top-notch!"
Catherine picked over a dozen doctors to help, and they were thrilled, like they just published ten SCI papers!
Two hours later, Catherine held the report, frowning slightly, and said, "So, my hypothesis was right."
Gavin looked at the data, stunned!
"Who would've thought that besides the miracle drug Vitality grass, Vitality Pills also have Dream grass!"
Dream grass, a notorious hallucinogen from the black market, was banned. Overuse could lead to drug dependence and mental instability.
Most notably, prolonged mental instability made patients believe any voice they heard was their own consciousness!
On the dark web, Dream grass was known as a brainwashing tool, used by many organizations to control their members by injecting it!
"Vitality Pills vary in quality. The Dream grass content in these is very low, making it hard to detect early on," Catherine said.
"Isn't this just a slow poison? It messes with the nervous system, and long-term use leads to brain death!" Gavin exclaimed.
The Dream grass content in the Vitality Pills Catherine had was super low. If it weren't for Felix's meds clashing with Vitality grass, no one would've known he was popping those pills.
"Lila's Vitality Pills have the highest Dream grass content," Catherine said.
Gavin's face got serious too.
'Long-term use of these pills means getting hooked on Dream grass, making you crave it more. So, Lila's been on these for a while!'
Catherine handed the report to Gavin, signaling him to sign it.
Gavin looked confused.
"Why me? This is a high-level drug analysis. Shouldn't you sign it?"
'This isn't my lab, and the report needs to be on record,' she thought.
"But it's your experiment. I'm just the assistant!" Gavin protested.
"I don't have a certification," she replied.
Medical experiments need a certification from the Stellara Institute of Pharmaceutical Research. Catherine found it a hassle and never got one, so she was technically working without a license.
Gavin finally got it!
'Catherine had me join the experiment not to discuss it but to make me responsible for it. This is about Vitality Pills, and I can already see the institute calling me soon! She really knows how to dodge trouble!'
"Why not have George sign it?" Gavin asked.
"Why dump this on family? If you don't sign, don't come to my next experiment."
Gavin quickly signed his name as the lead experimenter!
"Alright, tell George I have some stuff to handle and give him a copy of the report," Catherine said before leaving.
Lily was now in complete awe of Catherine!
"Yes! Catherine, come back next time! Our lab has the best gear in the country! Don't go to Gavin's lab!"
Gavin was silent.
'I'm still standing right here! Is it really cool to diss my lab like that?'
As Catherine walked out of George's lab, she spotted Alexander by the roadside, rocking a high-neck cashmere sweater that showed off his sexy Adam's apple, with a khaki trench coat flapping in the breeze, giving off a cold, unapproachable vibe.
Seeing Catherine, Alexander quickly walked up to her.
"Is the experiment done?" he asked.
"Yeah, why are you here?"
"To take you to dinner. Didn't I mention it earlier? Where's George?"
"He's in surgery. Here are the experiment data."
Felix was also a victim of Vitality Pills, so Alexander had the right to see the results.
"Dream grass? How did this stuff get back on the market? Northern Myanterra was a mess because of it three years ago!" he said.
"Yeah, same stuff. I think collaboration between Eli and Ethan this time is tied to Dream grass. It's pretty valuable."
Alexander frowned at the report, "Why is Gavin listed as the lead experimenter?"
"He ran the experiment."
Alexander knew Catherine didn't like being in the spotlight and didn't want too many people knowing she was Moon. The fame of Phantom Doctor 'Moon' was huge, and even in Imperia City, it could attract bad intentions.
'If she gets into trouble and I'm not around, it could be bad! Gavin mentioned meeting a medical genius, and it must've been her,' he thought.
Alexander composed himself, opening the car door for Catherine like a gentleman.
Catherine got in, her expression calm, and said, "A few years ago, a single Dream grass plant sold for $10 million. It's rare and pricey, but for Eli and Ethan, that's pocket change. Ethan must want Dream grass for another reason."
Alexander got what she meant and said,
"Like, he needs it for a family member's illness, and the only person who can use Dream grass is Phantom Doctor 'Moon'!"
Ethan had recently posted multiple recruitment notices for Phantom Doctor 'Moon' on the dark web, with offers going up to a billion dollars!
Catherine shook her head, "That's not it. Besides Phantom Doctor 'Moon,' at least one other person can use Dream grass."
"You mean the person who made these Vitality Pills?"
"Exactly!"
