Chapter 190 Live Stone Cutting!
Catherine picked up a piece of rough jade that looked pretty ordinary, just something she grabbed off the ground, one that Logan had tossed aside earlier.
Logan let out a sigh of relief and sneered, "I thought you found something good. According to Ms. Windsor, this piece of rough jade is trash too."
Catherine gently wiped the rough jade in her hand and weighed it lightly. "If you can't get something good out of it, it's because you're trash. If I can, it's because I'm lucky."
Logan, still trying to ride on his reputation as the King of Stone Gambling, saw Catherine's amateurish demeanor and suddenly had an idea. He had checked out all the rough jade pieces before the event and was sure this one had nothing valuable inside. "If you can't get anything good out of it, you have to apologize to me!"
Catherine looked up at Logan with disdain. "You call yourself the King of Stone Gambling and couldn't get anything good, and you want me to apologize to you?"
Sophia chimed in, "That's hilarious. The King of Stone Gambling couldn't get anything good and wants Ms. Windsor to apologize to him? Are you kidding us?"
Logan's face stiffened a bit, but he was convinced that the rough jade in Catherine's hand was worthless. "If Ms. Windsor's piece turns out to be valuable, I'll never gamble on stone again!"
Catherine shook her head lightly. "You have to admit you're a fraud. According to the rules of the Northern Myanterra quarry, you have to leave a hand behind."
In the past, people who pretended to be the King of Stone Gambling had to leave a hand behind, which was considered lenient.
Logan shivered when he met Anthony's unfriendly gaze. "Fine! I agree!"
After all, he was sure that the rough jade in Catherine's hand was worthless.
Maurice smiled, "Ms. Windsor, do you need any help?"
Catherine didn't even look at him and instead handed the rough jade to Alexander. "Help me out. I'll tell you how to cut it."
"Happy to serve you," Alexander said.
Catherine was wearing a form-fitting strapless dress, which made it inconvenient to bend over and cut the jade. After handing the rough jade to Alexander, she didn't miss the starry-eyed joy in his eyes.
'Is he really that happy just to help out? His happiness comes too easily.' Perhaps sensing Alexander's joy, Catherine also lightly curled her lips.
Sophia shivered a bit below the stage. "I'm still not used to seeing Catherine smile."
Oscar quietly leaned over. "Catherine and this guy look quite compatible. What does he do? He seems to be in business, and he's not arrogant."
Alexander placed the rough jade Catherine had chosen on the cutting machine.
"Just cut along this line," Catherine said.
Alexander secured the rough jade, then unbuttoned his suit and draped it over Catherine, considerately saying, "There will be dust. Wait for me in the back."
Her dress was beautiful today, and it wouldn't be good if it got dusty from the jade cutting.
Catherine's face reddened slightly, and she obediently took a step back.
Emilia and Sophia shivered together. "I didn't expect Mr. Howard to be so good to Catherine. But it's only right. If I had such a beautiful fiancée, I'd spoil her too."
Sophia's brain momentarily shrank. "You want a fiancée too?"
Emilia was speechless.
Logan craned his neck to look at the rough jade under Alexander's hands.
The sound of the cutting machine echoed in the venue. Alexander's hands were steady, showing no signs that it was his first time cutting jade.
As the cutting machine stopped, everyone below the stage held their breath.
Maurice looked incredulously at the cut surface of the stone. "This is glassy jade!"
Logan was the most shocked, thinking, 'How can there be glassy jade in this batch of stones? I checked each one carefully, and the ones most likely to yield good jade have already been cut. How can the piece Catherine casually picked turn out to be glassy jade?'
The cut surface revealed a vibrant green, clear and bright, without a single flaw.
Catherine sprinkled some water on it and said lightly, "It's okay, glassy jade, not the best."
This was already the best piece in this batch of rough jade. Being able to get glassy jade of this quality was considered lucky for the Hughes Family. But now, it was Catherine who was lucky! She looked at the dumbfounded Maurice and raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Maurice Hughes, this is mine. As for this so-called King of Stone Gambling, remember our bet!"
Logan collapsed to the ground, his lips pale, unable to say a word as he thought, 'Glassy jade—this girl who knows nothing actually gets glassy jade, while I got nothing. The Hughes Family will definitely not let me off!'
Maurice knew that relying on the King of Stone Gambling was impossible today. He waved for someone to take Logan away and then smiled at the audience. "Ms. Windsor, I'm sorry. The Hughes Family was also deceived by Logan. You're really lucky, and I admire that."
Someone in the audience raised a sign. "Ms. Windsor, is this jade for sale? I really like its quality! Name your price."
Catherine didn't lack jade, and this piece wasn't particularly precious to her. She turned to look at Alexander, meeting his eyes. He was wearing a well-tailored black shirt, now covered in dust from the jade cutting.
"Do you like it?" she asked.
"I like any jade you choose." To Alexander, the value of the jade didn't matter. What mattered was that Catherine chose it and that it was the first time she had actively asked for his help, meaning that Catherine was at least trying to accept him in her own way.
"Then it's yours. It would make a nice pair of cufflinks after being cut," Catherine said.
"Alright!"
Catherine turned to the audience and said calmly, "Sorry, I've given this piece away."
The signs in the audience were quickly put down.
No one would dare compete with Alexander for a piece of jade.
Spending money was nothing to Alexander, and no one would dare to outspend the CEO of the Howard Group.
Judging by Alexander's attitude, even if Catherine had cut out a worthless stone, he would still treasure it!
Anthony smiled at Oscar. "Since you're here, why not show us a bit of your skill?"
Oscar snorted, "Show my skill at your event? It's impossible. Tomorrow, I'll show my skill at the Windsor Family. Come if you want! Catherine, can you host it?"
"Of course, if you're willing to come, the Windsor Family will definitely support it," Catherine said.
If Charles knew that Oscar was going to the Windsor Family to cut jade on the spot, he would probably be grinning from ear to ear.
Everyone knew that Oscar never cut out anything cheap!
Oscar cutting jade at the Windsor Family was a sign of him supporting the Windsor Family!
It seemed today's jade gambling event by the Hughes Family was a joke!
Anthony's face was extremely grim as he watched Oscar's departing figure, his heart bleeding. "Find someone to kill him. We can't let him show off at the Windsor Family tomorrow and humiliate the Hughes Family!"
He glanced at a few of the Hughes Family descendants in front of him. "Whoever secures a good marriage first will inherit the Hughes Family. Whether it's the Howard Family or the Windsor Family, it's up to you."
Michael and Maurice were both shocked, understanding Anthony's hint. There was only one daughter in both the Howard Family and the Windsor Family!
As they left the venue, Maurice's secretary approached him. "Sir, Catherine is hard to approach, but doesn't the Windsor Family have an adopted daughter?"
