Chapter 146 Run Him Over

Jared pulled up outside the gallery and turned to Catherine. "Hey, I signed you up for a driving course. Everything's set; you just need to find some time to take the test."

Driving around Imperia City was a whole different ball game compared to the international circuit. It was just easier to drive yourself here. Catherine was good enough behind the wheel, so she could probably just knock out all the tests in one day.

"If you run into another idiot like that while driving, just run him over next time!" Jared said with a smirk.

Catherine replied coolly, "If we were anywhere else, he'd be dead by now."

Michael was only still breathing because the Hughes and Windsor families had a lot of business together. If Catherine had run into him at the border, he would've been met with bullets and fists from the Faceless Ones. They didn't mess around.

Catherine walked into the gallery and noticed a heated argument going on up front.

Elijah was holding a stack of drafts, glaring at a nervous intern. "I told you to fix this ages ago. Why isn't it done yet?"

"I'm sorry, I've revised it six times already. I didn't sleep at all last night," the intern stammered.

Elijah slammed the draft down. "Your lack of sleep is your problem. I told you how to fix it, and you still can't get it right. Is that my fault?"

"Sir, are you talking about the first version? I did it that way, but you said it wasn't good."

"How dare you talk back? Your revisions are terrible. Do you still want your stipend this month?" Elijah snapped.

The intern's eyes welled up with tears, dark circles under her eyes. She squatted down, tears falling as she lowered her head.

Catherine stepped forward and picked up the draft. "What's needing so many revisions?"

The gallery employees immediately straightened up. "Good morning, Ms. Windsor."

Elijah quickly put on a fake smile. "Ms. Windsor, it's just a minor issue. These interns don't do their work properly. No need to worry about it."

Catherine looked at the intern. "Got a pen?"

"Yes, yes!" The intern, still teary-eyed, handed her a pen from her pocket.

Catherine quickly marked up the paper, circling the mistakes. "See here, the perspective data is wrong. Subtract some from the original. Change the theme color here to highlight the painting. And this data should be like this."

The intern was stunned. How did Catherine spot all the problems so fast?

Elijah, who couldn't figure out what was wrong, watched in awe as Catherine pinpointed everything.

"Didn't you notice these?" Catherine's sharp gaze fell on Elijah, making him sweat.

"Ms. Windsor, I'm not a professional in organizing art exhibitions," Elijah mumbled.

"If you're not a pro, why not let someone who is handle it? Using your unprofessional perspective to guide professionals is just irresponsible," Catherine shot back.

Elijah hung his head, feeling ashamed. "It's my fault."

Catherine handed the revised draft to the intern and gently wiped her tears. "Got it now?"

"Yes, I understand!" The intern was almost in awe, thinking, 'Ms. Windsor personally wiped my tears and spoke so kindly. What an amazing boss!'

"What's your name?" Catherine asked.

"Odette Gray! I just graduated this year and started my internship at the gallery," Odette replied.

Catherine nodded. "Nice. You've got a real knack for exhibition design. If you run into any problems, come straight to me."

"Really? But you're so busy!"

"It's fine."

Odette looked at Catherine with eyes practically glowing, thinking, 'I've been working overtime every day, revising drafts after work, changing every detail countless times, yet Elijah is still unsatisfied and threatens my internship evaluation. But Ms. Windsor is so gentle, not only helping me revise the draft but also wiping my tears. It was wonderful!'

Catherine looked at Odette and said calmly, "You don't need to work today. Go home and rest. You can't work well if you're not in good spirits. Your salary will still be paid."

"Really?"

"Of course."

Catherine glanced at the hesitant Elijah, her expression cold. "Elijah, come to my office."

"Okay, Ms. Windsor. Letting her go home to rest is against the rules. Maybe we could count it as a day off instead," Elijah said humbly.

"I believe my word still counts in this gallery, right? I told Odette to go home and rest. Don't you understand?"

Elijah wiped the cold sweat from his face. "Of course, your word counts."

Odette watched Catherine lead Elijah away, tears in her eyes as she thought, 'Ms. Windsor is clearly a few years younger than me, yet she is so capable, excellent, and gentle.'

After closing the office door, Catherine looked up at Elijah. "I don't want to see any exploitation of employees or using work to release personal stress. If you have personal issues affecting your work, deal with them before coming back. If you're not professional enough, go learn. Leave professional tasks to professionals."

Elijah thought, 'Going to learn will waste a lot of time, won't it? If more people are hired to manage the gallery, my power will be diluted, and the benefits I can get will be less. I have worked hard to push Jennifer out; I'm unwilling to let others take away my management rights! Besides, it's just some drafts. Can't I figure out the problems by looking at them more? Those interns just lack patience. What's wrong with letting them revise more?'

Catherine's gaze was icy and merciless. "Elijah, do you think you can handle everything?"

Elijah gritted his teeth. "I can. I'm just trying to save costs for our gallery. I've handled these tasks before, and I can do them well in the future. Trust me."

Catherine snorted coldly, stood up from her chair, and walked out of the office as Elijah, not understanding, quickly followed Catherine. "Ms. Windsor, isn't this the exhibition hall we set up last month?"

"I remember you were in charge of this hall, and Jennifer didn't intervene," Catherine said.

Elijah, feeling proud, puffed out his chest. "Yes, it was me. This hall has received good reviews and industry praise!"

'As long as Ms. Windsor takes a closer look at this hall, she will know I am capable. Once Jennifer's gone, I should take over those tasks, and I should have a more significant role in determining the gallery's rights,' Elijah thought.

Catherine looked at the exhibition hall in front of her and signaled everyone to leave. She placed her hand on one of the load-bearing columns, and with a forceful push, the entire hall quickly collapsed before their eyes!

Elijah was almost scared to death! "What happened?"

Catherine withdrew her hand, dusting off the dirt on her hands, her expression indifferent. "Elijah, is this the good exhibition hall you mentioned? Collapsing with just a touch!"
