Chapter 20 Does the Windsor Family Have Other Daughters?
Alexander hung around Felix's bedside for a bit, then dipped out of the ward.
Outside, Esme was practically bouncing on her toes, eyes all sparkly.
"Alexander, how about we grab dinner? I know this super cute spot, perfect for couples. Been dying to go there with you."
Alexander didn't even bother looking at her, his face cold and perfect like a statue, eyes sharp as diamonds.
"Beat it."
The bodyguards stepped in, keeping Esme from getting any closer.
Esme stomped her foot, fuming!
'Once Alexander sees how awesome I am, he'll totally fall for me! He must've kicked me out 'cause he doesn't know about our engagement.'
After a moment of hesitation, Esme pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"Hey, I wanna buy a trending topic about the Windsor and Howard family engagement!"
Meanwhile, Alexander was in the doc's office, mulling over Felix's poisoning.
Gavin burst in, sweating bullets.
"Mr. Howard, I double-checked Felix's prescription. No issues there, but some of his meds got swapped. I checked Felix out. The surgery was a hit! Lucky for him, the surgeon was a total pro!"
Alexander felt a bit better and asked, "A pro? Esme said she did the surgery."
Gavin scoffed, "Bullshit. I had a class with her yesterday, and she couldn't even tell scalpels apart. No way she did it. The real surgeon must be an expert! Looked kinda like George's work."
Alexander nodded.
"Make sure Felix gets the best care."
"Of course, I'll do my rounds now."
Gavin couldn't stop thinking about that wound. 'It was so perfectly done!'
If Felix wasn't so high-profile, he would've snapped a pic to study it more.
'George is a big shot in the medical world and Marcus's grandson. If he was around, it's possible he did Felix's surgery. I heard Felix got sick in Marcus's ward. Maybe Felix was just mixed up after the surgery!' Alexander thought.
A bodyguard came in with a phone, speaking softly, "Mr. Howard, Esme bought a trending topic about you."
His secretary, Annie gasped, whipping out her phone.
The top trending topic was the engagement of the century between the Windsor and Howard families!
The post even detailed Alexander and Esme, saying the Windsor family only has one daughter!
Comments were blowing up with gossip.
[This high-society marriage is like a fairy tale!]
[Esme looks like a perfect match for Mr. Howard, a real lady.]
[When's the wedding?]
Annie was floored and said, "Good thing there are no pics of you. Is Esme nuts? She posted so many edited pics of herself. She doesn't even look like that!"
Alexander's lips curled into a cold smirk, his whole vibe turning icy!
Those who knew him well could tell Alexander was seriously pissed this time!
His eyes had a sharp, cold glint.
Alexander spoke coldly, "Delete the post, find the people behind it, bankrupt those marketing accounts, and take them to court."
"Yes, sir!"
"Prepare two gifts to send to the Windsor family."
Annie got all excited and said, "Oh, Mr. Howard, did Ms. Windsor's reminder just make you remember your engagement with her, and now you're planning to fulfill it?"
'Two gifts, one must be for Ms. Windsor, and the other for her parents!' Annie thought.
The assistant nearby chimed in, "Are you dumb? If Mr. Howard was gonna go through with the engagement, he wouldn't have told Esme to beat it just now. Esme even bought this trending topic. You really think Mr. Howard would go through with the engagement?"
'That's true. Alexander just called Esme an idiot!' Annie thought.
"So, Mr. Howard, what are you gonna do now?"
Alexander, looking all noble with his straight nose, said calmly, "One gift for George, to thank him for saving Felix, and one for Brandon and Aurora. I'm calling off the engagement!"
Annie almost bit her tongue!
"Mr. Howard, Mr. Felix Howard just woke up, and you're calling off the engagement? If Mr. Felix Howard finds out, won't he get upset again?"
The assistant chimed in, "Are you dumb? With Esme pulling stunts like this and buying trending topics, if Mr. Howard doesn't call off the engagement, Mr. Felix Howard will be the one getting upset."
The assistant handed over an iPad to Alexander, saying, "Mr. Howard, the Windsor family does have another daughter, Juniper Windsor, who's currently doing research in Tranquil County. Last year, her lab was behind that nationwide sensation where they made chickens fly."
Alexander took the iPad.
A photo of a girl with a blank expression popped up on the screen. Juniper, wearing a lab coat and holding a test tube, looked totally absorbed in her work.
Annie exclaimed, "I didn't expect the Windsor family to really have another daughter. And Juniper is a genius, an 18-year-old postdoctoral researcher. She definitely looks like a Windsor family daughter! Is Juniper's engagement also being called off?"
Alexander stayed silent.
'I'm not engaged to every daughter of the Windsor family!'
"My engagement is with the Windsor family, not a specific Ms. Windsor. Prepare the gifts. I'll go in a few days to call off the engagement."
The assistant, knowing Alexander's decision was final, still tried to persuade him.
"Mr. Howard, the Windsor family sent an invite for their daughter's birthday next week. Why don't you attend first and then discuss calling off the engagement? After all, the two families have a long-standing relationship, and this would be too disrespectful to the Windsor family."
Alexander said, "Let's do that. I'll announce the engagement cancellation at the birthday party."
Annie thought to herself that the Windsor family would probably be furious.
'That Windsor family daughter better brace herself!'
"Birthday party?"
Catherine was eating when Brandon and Aurora suggested holding a birthday party for her. She instinctively wanted to refuse.
She didn't like being high-profile. When she was with the Smith family, she never got birthday gifts, only Clara getting a birthday cake.
Celeste wouldn't allow her to be extravagant but would buy expensive cakes for Clara.
It was supposedly to compensate Clara, so she wouldn't feel bad.
Aurora, with her face in her hands, looked at Catherine cautiously and said, "Catherine, we're sorry we haven't celebrated your birthday all these years. This time, we want to announce you to the world! Tell them that the Windsor family has only one daughter, Catherine!"
Brandon, finding out that Catherine never celebrated her birthday when she was with the Smith family, kept nodding beside Aurora.
'How pitiful!'
Thinking about how Catherine had been so wronged, Brandon almost wanted to cry.
'Catherine had it so tough! We have to make it up to her!'
"Sweetheart, don't worry. From now on, we'll celebrate your birthday every year, making you the happiest princess in the world!" Brandon said.
Charles, George, Richard, and Philip also kept nodding, starting to plan the birthday party on the spot.
Seeing them so enthusiastic, Catherine couldn't bear to refuse and agreed.
Charles gently patted Catherine's hair and said with a smile, "Don't worry, you don't have to do anything. Just show up, and we'll take care of the rest!"
"Yes, we'll give you the grandest birthday party!" Esme said, sitting on the couch with a thick face, about to tear her handkerchief apart!
'Why should Catherine have such a good life? I am also a Windsor family daughter, and no one is ever this enthusiastic about my birthdays. I don't even get gifts. Is blood relation really that important?'
