Chapter 237 Becoming a Housekeeper and Bodyguard's Child
Esme's hits were quick and on point, leaving Clara with a few solid slaps.
Clara had just had surgery and was still super weak. If it wasn't for the promise of money and status keeping her going, she wouldn't even be able to stand. Now, after getting hit, she crumpled to the ground, grabbing onto Ezekiel's leg. "Dad, it's me, Clara, your real daughter! You won't deny me, right?"
Seeing this, Esme wasn't about to back down. She rushed over and clung to Ezekiel's wife, Elena Howard, trying to squeeze out some tears, looking all pitiful. "Mom, it's me, Esme. You even called me and told me to find you at the party."
Charles pulled Catherine's hand and took a step back. "Let's stand back here; the view's better."
Catherine stifled a laugh and gently tugged on Alexander's sleeve, pulling him into the safe zone too.
Alexander turned and held Catherine's hand, intertwining their fingers secretly.
The other guests had the same idea—they were here for the drama, thinking, 'If these girls are really Ezekiel and Elena's daughters, stepping in will piss off the Howard Family. If they aren't, it's not our problem. Either way, it's not our embarrassment.'
Someone covered their mouth and chuckled. "Ezekiel has so many kids anyway; a couple more won't matter."
"Yeah, but these two aren't much to look at. Daughters like these are just a burden."
As Ezekiel heard the murmurs and nasty comments around him, his head was about to explode! He looked at Celeste hiding in the back and kicked Clara away from his feet. "Get lost! Who's your dad? You're just a nobody, and you want to be my daughter? Not just anyone can join the Howard Family!"
Elena also pushed Esme away. "Who are you? I've never contacted you. I only have one daughter, and she doesn't look like you!"
As she spoke, Elena glared at Ezekiel beside her, thinking it must be his mess outside that he hadn't cleaned up, causing these random people to come their way!
Esme was so anxious that tears were about to fall, thinking if Elena didn't acknowledge her, she wouldn't be able to survive! She took out her phone and pointed to the messages, crying. "Mom, you told me to come to the party!"
Elena glanced at the messages and frowned. "Your mom is our housekeeper, not me!"
'Housekeeper? How could it be the housekeeper!' Esme wondered.
Ezekiel, disgusted, waved his hand and pointed to a middle-aged man covered in dirt, speaking to Clara, "Our bodyguard and my secretary, Solon Dunn, is your real father!"
Solon had been trimming the garden outside, still wearing his gardening gloves. Behind him was a middle-aged woman who looked quite similar to Lucy, who stepped forward and grabbed Esme. "Esme, is that you? I'm your mom! This is your dad. Finally, our family can be reunited. Quickly apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Howard."
Solon also pulled the still-stunned Clara. "Yes, from now on, our family will live well together."
Clara was stunned, thinking, 'So Celeste's talk of my father's noble status refers to Ezekiel's secretary? What kind of nobility is that!'
"You're my dad? Then why is this woman also your child?" Clara asked.
Solon chuckled, a mix of honesty and hidden cunning. "So what? You've got eight brothers and seven sisters at home; it's quite the party!"
That was indeed too lively! Most of them were kids Ezekiel had outside but didn't want to acknowledge. They were all sent to Solon's house and registered under his name. Since Solon didn't have to pay to raise them, he didn't mind having one more.
'There are so many people, and my dad is just a bodyguard while my mom is a housekeeper. This life is even harder than Catherine's farming family!' Thinking of that scene, Clara rolled her eyes and fainted!
Solon slung Clara over one shoulder and dragged Esme with the other, quickly disappearing from the banquet hall.
Celeste, hiding to see Ezekiel's reaction to Clara, had already slipped away when she saw things going south.
Ezekiel turned and apologized, "I'm really sorry about the disruption caused by my staff's kids. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
He picked up the champagne and started drinking, his face flushing, unclear if it was from anger or embarrassment.
Ezekiel held his glass and toasted each person, finally reaching Alexander. "Alexander, we're family. You can't side with outsiders and not help me, right? Every time I look for you lately, you say you need to be with Ms. Windsor. That's too unruly!"
As he spoke, he glanced at Catherine several times.
Alexander's hand rested on Catherine's slender waist, and he merely lifted his eyes and smiled. "I don't understand what you're saying. Catherine is my family now, so of course, I'll help her. As for you, if I'm not with Catherine, I have to handle the company's affairs. I don't have time to visit the ranch."
His words were just short of directly calling Ezekiel inhuman!
Catherine burst into laughter as Alexander's gaze softened.
Charles took the water from Catherine's hand. "Better not eat anything here; it's dirty. I worry you'll have a stomachache later. Let's go eat somewhere else."
"Sure," Catherine said.
Ezekiel's mouth twitched as he looked at Catherine. "Ms. Windsor is indeed stunningly beautiful. No wonder Alexander likes you so much. So many noble ladies surrounded him before, but none caught his eye. You must be exceptional."
Catherine smiled gently, her demeanor impeccable. "You're too kind. I'm not special, just very close to my brothers. At least I wouldn't secretly harm them and put their lives at risk."
Charles chimed in, "Only a savage would do such a thing. Catherine is so sensible; she could never do that."
Alexander nodded, his gaze at Ezekiel filled with coldness. "Catherine is right. Some people are nothing but brutes. Calling them human would be an insult to the rest of us."
Ezekiel knew Alexander was referring to his attempt to have Santino killed. But he hadn't succeeded! The one who ultimately killed Santino was Alexander!
Ezekiel sneered, "Speaking of which, Santino's death is still unclear. Alexander, you owe me an explanation, don't you?"
He was now demanding an explanation shamelessly.
'As long as I insist Alexander did it, Alexander won't get away with it today!' Ezekiel thought.
