Chapter 392 Where Did This Lunatic Come From

"Who is this? Lyra?"

"It's me, Thora. Please, you have to help me!"

Thora's tone sharpened. "How did you even end up in there? What did you do this time?"

Lyra froze. She couldn't possibly tell the truth.

Instead, she launched into the excuse she had prepared days ago.

"Thora, I was at a hotel with my boyfriend, and we ran into Catherine... You know she's hated me for ages. She even got me expelled from school!"

Thora's eyes lit up. "Are you saying Catherine is the one who had you locked up?"

"Exactly! She saw my boyfriend and tried to flirt with him, but he only has eyes for me. He ignored her, so she lost her temper and called the police to drag me away... You know I can't fight people like her. She's loaded."

A spark of satisfaction flared in Thora's chest.

So Catherine was that kind of woman. With Alexander as her perfect fiancé, she still went sniffing around other women's boyfriends.

If Alexander knew, he would see her for what she really was.

Thora couldn't stand the thought of him being deceived. No matter who he chose to be with, it couldn't be someone with such rotten morals.

"Fine. I'll send a lawyer to you. Just stay put and behave yourself for a few days."

"Thank you, Thora!"

Ending the call, Thora smoothed down her dress, lifted her chin, and strode straight toward Catherine and Alexander.

She took a deep breath, then stepped directly into their path, arms spread wide.

Alexander's voice was cool. "Annie."

Annie rushed forward. "Apologies, Mr. Howard. I didn't see anyone ahead. I'll clear the way for you immediately."

"Half a month's salary. Dock it."

Salary was a lifeline. Annie's heart sank—there went the handbag she'd been saving for.

Her irritation spiked. Who in their right mind would walk straight into the path of a man flanked by a dozen bodyguards? This woman had to be insane.

Jaw tight, Annie grabbed Thora's arm, ready to pull her away. "As if this job wasn't bad enough, now I have to deal with lunatics."

But Thora dug in her heels. "Mr. Howard, I'm Thora, daughter of the White family from Silverpeak City."

Alexander frowned. "Never heard of you."

Catherine tilted her head. "The White family?"

Seeing her interest, Alexander's tone softened as he explained, "The major families in Silverpeak City have no business ties with the Howard family."

Thora's voice trembled with urgency. "We're related—whether you like it or not."

Alexander's expression didn't change. He didn't even bother to meet her eyes. "And yet, I barely know you." The words fell like a door slamming shut.

Catherine lingered at his side, tilting his hand ever so slightly before saying softly, "Let's go."

Seeing the easy warmth between them, Thora felt a pang. She knew Alexander was far beyond her reach—his family, his looks, his abilities. But if anyone deserved him, it certainly wasn't Catherine.

At the very least, it should be someone like Quinn—someone who could stand as a queen in her own domain.

Thora's jaw tightened. "Mr. Howard, she's not a good person! Don't let her fool you. She tried to seduce my friend's boyfriend at a hotel!"

Alexander came to a sudden halt. The air went taut.

Annie pressed a hand to her forehead. "Completely unhinged. Scary, even."

Alexander's expression didn't change.

Thora's eyes widened. "Mr. Howard, aren't you angry? A woman this promiscuous doesn't deserve to stand beside you!"

Alexander's gaze never left Catherine. His lips curved slightly, his eyes lit with something bright and unshakable. That small, almost lazy smile was dazzling—enough to make Thora's breath catch.

But it wasn't for her. It was for Catherine.

"Doesn't matter," Alexander said softly. "As long as Catherine chooses to be with me, I don't care how many men are around her."

Thora was speechless.

Annie nearly choked on her own laughter and had to step aside, shoulders shaking.

Alexander really was... something else.

Of course, everyone here knew Catherine wasn't that kind of woman. She hadn't even given Alexander the time of day at first, let alone anyone else's boyfriend.

But to Thora, who knew none of that, Alexander's unwavering devotion was like a slap.

"Mr. Howard, how can you be so blind? She's insulted Quinn before! My friend went to school with her—Catherine was so jealous she got her expelled!"

In Thora's mind, Catherine's sins were endless.

Catherine just smiled faintly. "Yes, terrible of me. And your point is?"

"My point is... you should leave Mr. Howard! Don't tarnish someone as good as him!"

Catherine's voice was calm. "And if I did, would you take my place?"

Thora's face flushed scarlet. She waved her hands quickly. "No... I'm not worthy. Only someone like Quinn deserves to marry him. You're not fit."

Catherine arched a brow, amused. This Thora really was too easy to manipulate—dragged along by whatever Lyra had told her.

Catherine glanced at Alexander. "So, I'm this terrible. Aren't you afraid I'll hurt you?"

"No matter what you do to me, I'm looking forward to it."

Thora stared at him in disbelief, then spun on her heel, stomping away with her face in her hands.

Alexander had to be under Catherine's spell. She'd go straight to Yasmin. Once the rest of the Howard family knew the truth, they could save him from this mess.

Watching Thora flee, Catherine smirked. "You really are devoted. What if I actually did find another man?"

Alexander's laugh was low and warm. "Then I'd lock you up and keep you by my side for the rest of your life. And as for the other man—he wouldn't live to regret it."

Catherine's smile turned bright as she laced her fingers through his. "Funny. That's exactly what I'd do if you ever found someone else."
