Chapter 199 Catherine Saves the Day
Emilia could hear Anthony's angry ranting from the study, and she couldn't help but smirk. She spat out her gum and casually shoved it into the keyhole of the study door. Her eyes drifted down the hallway and landed on Esme.
"Ms. Hughes, what are you doing here? Are you eavesdropping on Grandpa?" Esme asked, her voice trembling.
Emilia chuckled, a rare moment of amusement. "You scared, seeing me alive and kicking? You really thought you could have me killed with that tiny brain of yours? Do you think you're that smart, or do you believe those Vitality Pills are some kind of magic?"
Emilia had figured out a while ago that Anthony was only being nice to Michael and Esme because of those Vitality Pills.
Even though she wasn't big on studying, Emilia had spent three hours digging through all the research on Vitality Pills. Once she found out they were toxic, she felt a lot better.
"What are you talking about? I don't get it!" Esme stammered.
"It's cool if you don't get it. No need to freak out," Emilia said, thinking, 'I've already sent all the info to Anthony's email. Once he realizes he's been poisoning himself, Michael and Esme are toast.'
Esme took a step back, staring at the calm Emilia with a terrified look, wondering how she knew about the Vitality Pills.
"Oh, and by the way, your idiot dad, Lloyd, is gonna spend the rest of his life in prison. Surprised?"
Emilia hadn't expected George's solution for Lloyd to be leading him straight into a police trap. Lloyd had done so many illegal things, he couldn't survive an investigation.
Esme's face went pale, and she collapsed to the ground, thinking, 'If Lloyd goes to prison, what happens to me? I've only been part of the Hughes Family for a few days. No, I can't accept this!'
Seeing Esme's panicked face, Emilia sneered and walked past her, heading back to her bedroom.
Emilia looked at the photo on her bedside table. The woman in the picture had a bright smile, with sword tattoos on her arms, looking proud and defiant.
As Emilia stared at the photo, tears started to fall. She hugged the photo album tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.
Her heart was filled with unbearable pain and intense hatred. Emilia bit her lip to keep from crying too loudly. "Mom, I'm coming for you. I'll send everyone who caused your death to hell. I want to see Anthony's face when he realizes he's dying! Did he ever think about how much I was suffering when he killed you? I've prepared so much, but I can't wait anymore. When we meet, will you be proud of me? Mom, I miss you so much."
Half an hour later, Hughes Manor was engulfed in flames, the fire spreading everywhere.
Anthony watched the fire outside, feeling the fear of death, and wondered how he had fallen asleep in the study while discussing serious matters with Maurice.
When Maurice woke up, he immediately tried to open the door, only to find it locked from the outside! "Grandpa, why is our house on fire?"
Anthony quickly found the key and tried to unlock the door from the inside, but it wouldn't budge. "Someone jammed the lock!"
Anthony kicked Maurice to the ground and tried to unlock the study door himself! "Who the hell is against the Hughes Family?"
The fire spread fast to the study. Both Anthony and Maurice inhaled too much smoke and passed out right there.
Meanwhile, over at the Galactic Aurora Collective...
Venus was watching the internal surveillance and had a hunch something big was going down with the Hughes Family tonight. He pulled up their surveillance feed. "Emilia set the Hughes Manor on fire! She's a hero!"
Everyone at the Galactic Aurora Collective was stunned.
Mercury gave a thumbs up. "I heard Anthony killed Emilia's mom for power. He wanted the Blade of Dusk, so he teamed up with its leader to kill her mom and grandpa. They encased her mom in a concrete pillar. Emilia was just a baby then, right?"
Mars nodded. "Emilia's impressive, but it's all for nothing if she sacrifices herself."
Catherine stood up, her eyes on Alexander, who was sitting next to her. "I need to get to the Hughes Manor. Can you drive me?"
"Of course," Alexander nodded. He'd drop everything to drive Catherine anywhere.
The Hughes Manor was a blazing inferno, the fire lighting up the night sky.
In Emilia's room, Catherine grabbed the unburned window frame and jumped inside.
Emilia lay on the bed, hugging the photo album, looking unconscious but with a peaceful, satisfied smile on her face.
Catherine bent down, hoisted Emilia over her shoulder, and quickly jumped back out the window. Just as they left, the bedroom's beam collapsed, crashing onto Emilia's bed!
Catherine placed Emilia in the car and checked her pulse. "She's still alive. Let's get to the hospital."
As they passed several fire trucks, Catherine looked away.
As for the Hughes Family, whether they survived was up to fate. It had nothing to do with them.
At the hospital's emergency room, George, who had just found a moment to eat, almost spat out his water when he saw Emilia being wheeled in! "What happened? Catherine, why are you here?"
"George, save her first!" Catherine had already done some basic first aid on the way, so Emilia's condition wasn't too severe.
George didn't say another word. He grabbed the gurney and sprinted towards the emergency room, stuffing his sandwich into Catherine's hands.
A patient clutching his stomach saw the gurney come out of nowhere and take his place, immediately becoming unhappy. "My stomach still hurts! Why isn't the doctor seeing me first? Why is the hospital letting people cut in line?"
Emergency room resources were limited, and in urgent situations, the most severe cases were prioritized.
"I've been waiting for two hours! The hospital can't just let people cut in line, can they? I'm going to file a complaint!" the other patient said.
The nurse looked at them. "You just have gastroenteritis. You can endure the pain! But she's dying! The emergency room is for saving lives."
The patients were about to argue further when they saw another gurney being rushed in, surrounded by a group of medical staff. Gavin was holding an IV bag, running frantically and shouting, "Make way! Don't block the path! Open the green channel! Notify the operating room!"
Gavin's eyes landed on Catherine, and for a moment, it was as if he saw a savior! "Catherine, come with me. This patient's condition is very critical!"
