Chapter 65 Alexander Can Only Be Single
When Gavin rolled into the hospital early in the morning for rounds, he got the lowdown on Esme's situation. He threw on his white coat and hustled over to the ICU to check on her. Seeing she wasn't in any serious trouble, he let out a sigh of relief.
'Why the heck would a perfectly fine person just dive into the water? And the sea's still freezing!' Gavin thought.
"Mr. Windsor, you think Esme jumped in 'cause she was upset about getting disciplined by the school?"
Marcus knew all about Esme's disciplinary action. The school had been pretty fair, even cutting her some slack out of respect for the Windsor family. Otherwise, she'd be expelled by now.
'How did a kid I watched grow up turn out like this?' Marcus wondered.
"Upset? What's she got to be so upset about? Never mind! Just make sure she's taken care of."
Gavin nodded, then gave Marcus a once-over.
He personally kept tabs on these leaders' health, and he was all over Marcus's condition. Last month, Marcus's numbers were all over the place, but now everything was looking up!
"You're as strong as an ox! Compared to before, you've improved a ton. At this rate, you can head home to recuperate next month," Gavin said.
Marcus, being older, loved hearing about his good health. "Really? It's all thanks to the medicine Catherine made for me. Getting out of here sounds awesome. I'm sick of this hospital smell!"
Hearing the news, Marcus jumped out of bed and kicked open the door to the next room with a swagger.
With his hands on his hips, Marcus said, "Felix, I'm going home next month! You stay here in the hospital!"
Felix couldn't keep his cool. He jumped out of bed and ran to Catherine, grabbing her hand and pleading, "Catherine! I wanna get out too! Discharge me, Catherine!"
Catherine was taken aback.
Seeing Felix's big, pitiful eyes, she swallowed back the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue.
"Alright, take the meds I prescribed, get daily check-ups, exercise more, don't stay up late, and don't be picky with food. You can be discharged next month," Catherine said.
"Yes! Catherine, you're the best!"
Feeling triumphant, Felix hobbled over to Marcus, even bumping him with his shoulder, and said, "You're not the only one with granddaughters. Catherine will be my granddaughter too!"
"I won't let Catherine marry into your family. Alexander will stay single!"
"Just you dare!"
"Just watch me!"
Catherine was already used to Marcus and Felix's constant bickering. At their age, they couldn't really fight, just pull each other's beards and yank out a few already sparse hairs.
She turned to Gavin and said softly, "Lila's condition has worsened. Go check on her."
"Alright, I'll send you a report later. And..."
Gavin looked at Catherine with admiration, almost shamelessly wanting to ask her for Marcus's prescription on the spot!
"Next time, if you assist me, we'll talk."
Gavin was hopeful.
'I actually have another chance to see Catherine conduct an experiment!'
"Alright, I'll go check on Lila first. I'll leave this to you!" Gavin said happily before he left.
As soon as he walked out of the ward, Gavin skillfully ignored the crowd gathered at the door.
The patients here had special statuses, with the gift boxes being transported to the anti-bribery department by garbage trucks.
Seeing someone finally come out, Celeste quickly perked up, only to see a doctor in a white coat, not the Howard family member they were waiting for!
Celeste scrutinized Gavin, not recognizing him with the mask on.
The Smith family members were somewhat disinterested. The Howard Group's president was supposed to come to the hospital, but they hadn't seen him yet!
Oliver grumbled, "Man, the Howard Group's president is so ungrateful. It's super late, and he still hasn't shown up to see his grandpa. We've been waiting all morning!"
Lucas, sitting in his wheelchair, shot him a glare when no one was looking.
'Who do you think the Howard Group's president is? Does he need to inform you when he rolls into the hospital? You're taking yourself way too seriously!'
The Johnson family was here 'cause almost all their business was getting squeezed by Charles. If they could get in good with the Howard family, it wouldn't matter if the Windsor family openly boycotted them in the industry! Only the Howard family could save the Johnson family now!
Clara glanced at Lucas in the wheelchair, feeling a bit envious.
'I wanna sit down too. I've been standing for five hours in these high heels, and my feet are killing me,' she thought.
"Celeste, is Mr. Howard coming today or what?" Clara asked.
"I don't know either. Just wait. Can't you see all these people waiting too?" Celeste replied.
But unlike them, these folks were clearly prepared. As soon as they arrived, they skillfully pulled out newspapers from their pockets and sat on the ground.
'It's like they're on vacation! Is this the attitude of someone asking for help? Or is this how people in Imperia City act now?' Celeste thought.
The medical staff at Bright Heal Hospital didn't chase them away either. Just standing with them, Celeste felt her overall demeanor had taken a hit.
With the ward door opening, Marcus, wearing a mask and hat, was pushed out in a wheelchair by Catherine.
Seeing Marcus's getup, Catherine wanted to laugh!
Marcus hated socializing. Whenever there were too many people at the door, he'd cover his face to avoid accidentally rolling his eyes at the public.
As soon as she came out, the few people sitting at the door immediately got up, put away their newspapers, and stood at attention, blocking Marcus and Catherine!
"Army 302 Unit, here to escort you!"
The Smith and Johnson family members were still reeling from the shock of seeing Catherine when they saw the group of people sitting on the ground suddenly stand up, exuding an aura of iron and blood!
"These people aren't farmers, but special forces soldiers deployed from the army," Catherine thought in shock.
"How many people?" Marcus asked.
"Fifteen, all under control. Rest assured!"
Marcus nodded and smiled, "Fewer than yesterday, not bad. Looks like it's time for me to go home. Catherine, did you hear that?"
"Yes, I'll arrange your discharge."
"Go check on Lila's ward."
After such a big incident in the morning, even if Aurora wasn't the most virtuous, she was still the mother of the Windsor family's children. Samuel, being an old comrade of his, would definitely cause trouble if he knew Aurora was being mistreated and the Windsor family didn't care.
Catherine pushed the wheelchair and walked away, ignoring the people standing by the roadside.
Seeing Catherine and Marcus's good relationship, Lucas started to have other plans.
'Who knows what Charles is thinking, letting his mistress take care of his grandpa? Rich people sure know how to play,' Lucas thought.
Oliver was shocked to see Catherine.
"Catherine, why are you here? When did you meet Mr. Windsor, and why didn't you tell me?" he exclaimed, almost dying of excitement!
'Catherine might have been hired by the Windsor family to take care of Marcus. If she put in a few good words, the Windsor family would definitely treat the Smith family differently and support us!' Oliver thought.
