Chapter 278 Wanting Half of the Windsor Family's Fortune
Oliver was still stuck in the hospital, paralyzed on one side.
When Clara called him, he was ready to let her have it. He thought, 'This ungrateful daughter of mine, she actually hit me with a car and left me paralyzed in the hospital!'
"Aren't you supposed to be in jail? You almost killed me! How did you get out?" Oliver demanded.
"Dad, it wasn't me who hit you. It was all a setup by the Windsor Family! Just look it up online. Catherine is actually the heiress of the Windsor Family! She's taking revenge on you. Our family is in ruins because Catherine used the Windsor Family's resources to get back at us!"
Oliver suddenly got serious. "I'll check it out."
He hung up and immediately started searching for info on the Windsor Family.
The first thing he saw was Catherine's birthday party, which was broadcasted worldwide!
Oliver had even gone to the party, trying to give Catherine a gift, only to be kicked out by the Windsor Family, making the Smith Family a joke!
After that, Oliver hadn't kept up with the news.
Seeing that Catherine was indeed the Windsor Family heiress, Oliver felt a wave of dizziness, remembering how he had insulted Catherine in front of the Windsor Family.
'The Smith Family is bankrupt, and it's all Catherine's doing!' Oliver thought before calling Celeste. "Come get me from the hospital! We need to talk to Catherine and the Windsor Family. If Catherine forgives us, with the Windsor Family's support, the Smith Family can bounce back!"
Celeste, who had been impatient, jumped up at the news! "Really?"
"Of course, just check the news online! Clara said it was all photoshopped, but Catherine is the real Windsor Family heiress."
Celeste's eyes lit up, and she felt a deep sense of regret! "That Catherine never told us the truth. She's so ungrateful! Oliver, let's find Marcus. We've raised her for so many years, so it's only fair to ask for some support money, right? Even if she doesn't care about us, Elodie was always so good to Catherine."
Oliver initially felt a bit guilty. But thinking about how good Elodie had been to Catherine, he straightened up. "You're right. Asking the Windsor Family for a hundred million dollars isn't too much."
That amount of money was just pocket change for the Windsor Family.
Celeste knew that even if they got a hundred million dollars, she wouldn't see much of it, so she had a new idea. "Oliver, the Windsor Family is loaded, and Catherine's birthday party alone cost more than a hundred million dollars. Let's ask for half of the Windsor Family's assets. Without us and Elodie, Catherine wouldn't have made it this far."
'Half of the Windsor Family's assets! How much money would that be!' Oliver thought, greedily swallowing! "Alright, let's go to the Windsor Family and ask for money right now!"
Oliver and Celeste completely forgot about Clara, who was still hiding at the resort. They hurriedly drove the Smith Family's last beat-up car to Imperia City.
This car was bought with the private money Celeste had taken from Oliver.
Starry Residence, the top wealthy district in Imperia City, wasn't a place for ordinary folks.
The security guard looked at the beat-up car Celeste was driving and didn't recognize them, so he didn't let them in. "What are you here for? No unauthorized persons allowed!"
Celeste quickly put on a smile and said, "I'm here to see my daughter. She lives at Moonlight Mansion."
"Moonlight Mansion is Ms. Catherine Windsor's property. Is your daughter a maid for the Windsor Family?" the security guard asked.
"My daughter is Catherine! We're here to see her!" Celeste insisted.
The security guard frowned, looking at Celeste and Oliver with suspicion. After a moment, he grabbed his walkie-talkie. "We've got a couple of crazies at the gate. Get them out of here!"
'These two must be nuts, claiming to be Catherine's parents. We know what Mr. and Mrs. Windsor look like. Even if they had plastic surgery, they wouldn't look this bad!' the security guard thought.
Just then, the sensor at the neighboring gate beeped, and a mechanical voice announced, "Welcome home, esteemed resident of Moonlight Mansion."
A sleek, black luxury car with smooth lines rolled up. The driver wore a crisp suit, and his white gloves were spotless.
In the back seat, Charles was smoking a cigar. His profile was chiseled and handsome, exuding an air of authority and a chilling aura. His brows were slightly furrowed, and he radiated coldness.
The security guard immediately smiled and said, "Mr. Windsor, welcome home."
This was the demeanor of someone from the Windsor Family, completely different from these two in a beat-up car!
Oliver's eyes lit up when he saw Charles and thought, 'I always thought Catherine had seduced Charles. If I had known she was the Windsor Family heiress, the Smith Family would be thriving! It's all Catherine's fault for hiding this.'
Seeing that Charles was about to leave, Oliver quickly called out, "Mr. Windsor, please wait!"
Charles turned slightly, his cold gaze falling on Oliver.
"I'm Catherine's adoptive father! Mr. Windsor, we didn't know Catherine was your daughter before. We're here to see her, but the security guard won't let us in," Oliver said.
Charles exhaled a puff of cigar smoke, his lips curling into a mocking smile. "Starry Residence is not a place for trash; you definitely don't belong here."
Oliver hurriedly said, "Mr. Windsor, everything that happened before was a misunderstanding. We're all family."
Charles replied indifferently, "What do you want?"
"We just miss Catherine and came to see her. Is she home?" Oliver asked.
"Catherine is not home. You can leave now." With that, Charles rolled up the window and had the driver drive away.
Oliver and Celeste were both fuming at Charles's attitude. "It must be Catherine badmouthing us to the Windsor Family."
A car behind them suddenly stopped, and the window rolled down. Lyra looked at Oliver and Celeste. "Do you know Catherine?"
"Yes, we're her adoptive parents! We're here to see her!" Oliver replied.
Lyra also lived in Starry Residence, but in the cheapest building. Her parents were still paying off the mortgage for the house.
Seeing Oliver and Celeste, Lyra felt a sense of superiority, thinking, 'So what if Catherine is rich? She still has adoptive parents who look like beggars! Compared to Catherine, I come from a scholarly family, much better than the nouveau riche Windsor Family.'
These two didn't look like good people, and Lyra thought they might cause trouble for Catherine. "Catherine might not be home. You can come in with me."
"That's great! You're so kind!" Oliver said.
