Chapter 216 Something Fishy? Even Going to Jail is Fate
Alexander glanced up and locked eyes with Vincent, who had this calm but icy vibe going on.
"Maybe Catherine didn't fill you in, but we at the Galactic Aurora Collective are pretty territorial. Even if a spot's useless, you shouldn't be poking around there," Vincent said.
Alexander didn't flinch at the warning. He met Vincent's gaze, his voice steady and deep. "No offense, but I've got my own investigation to handle. Hope you get that."
Vincent stared at Alexander for a beat, then suddenly chuckled. "You're only talking to me like this because of Catherine, right? Your rep on the border isn't exactly glowing!"
"You're Catherine's mentor; it's only right," Alexander replied.
As for reputation, the Shadow Syndicate was infamous for its swift and ruthless ways. In a world of bloodshed and chaos, a good rep wasn't exactly a priority!
Vincent could believe that if he weren't Catherine's mentor, Alexander wouldn't be so courteous.
Alexander's politeness was all about keeping Catherine happy, and in that sense, Vincent was pretty pleased!
Alkaid chimed in, "So what if his rep isn't great? Blackfire's isn't any better."
Catherine said calmly, "Nonsense. Both our organization and my reputation are top-notch."
"True that. Our organization has a spotless record of zero negative reviews. Both clients and targets rave about us!" Alkaid added.
After all, those who couldn't give good reviews were no longer around.
After dropping Vincent off at the hotel, Alexander turned to Catherine. "I need to catch up with an old friend in the next few days. I'll find you when I'm done."
"Alright."
Alkaid pouted whispered to Catherine, "I just peeked at Vincent's phone, and he wouldn't let me see it. Let me tail him for a couple of days!"
"Go ahead, but if you get caught, I'm not bailing you out," Catherine said.
If Vincent caught him, Alkaid's days would be rough.
"Don't be so cold. I saw Vincent heading towards Imperial University," Alkaid said.
'Imperial University? Could Vincent be meeting Franklin?' Catherine wondered before quickly deciding. "Follow him. If anything happens, I'll get you out."
"Got it!"
The car stopped in front of the music store, and Catherine pursed her lips as she looked at Alexander beside her. "You need rest. No need to come with me."
"It's fine. I want to be with you. I won't bother you, and besides, you promised to spend the whole day with me. No backing out."
Catherine's slender, cool fingers rested on Alexander's wrist. He looked worn out, but his pulse was steady.
Since he seemed okay, Catherine didn't push it and walked into the music store.
The store manager, Gabriel, quickly approached. "Ms. Windsor, the music store across the street just got renovated, and our business reports are in your office!"
"Thanks."
The music store across the street was bought by Esme to mess with Catherine, but it became Catherine's property just before the Hughes Family went bankrupt.
The gallery and the music store were next to each other, and Charles had connected the two offices for Catherine's convenience, with a small lounge in between.
The whole office was bright, and standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, you could get a clear view of the street below.
Catherine walked in and picked up the report on her desk.
Lately, violin sales had shot up, especially for the old ones. Some violins by famous musicians were priced sky-high and were being held back from sale.
"This price is good. Why aren't we selling?" Catherine asked.
"Ms. Windsor, we're planning to auction those violins. The prices should double," Gabriel replied.
The main feature of those violins was the use of nephrite.
But the nephrite on the violins was just a small amount, polished into parts, not the kind that could be used in medicine.
Catherine said calmly, "I remember, last time I was here, these violins weren't in the store."
Gabriel chuckled. "You must be mistaken. These violins are our store's treasures!"
"Let's go see them!"
Meeting Catherine's calm and composed gaze, Gabriel didn't panic, thinking even if Catherine could play the violin, she couldn't possibly make one.
Violin craftsmanship was intricate, and unless one was a seasoned expert, it was hard to distinguish the parts.
"Please follow me," Gabriel said.
Catherine stood up, and Alexander followed her.
He gently squeezed Catherine's hand, his voice low and magnetic. "Last time, I didn't get to see you paint. Can I hear you play the violin this time?"
Since Catherine was Vincent's student, her violin skills should be quite advanced!
"I'm not in the mood to play right now," Catherine said.
Alexander responded, "Okay, there is something off on the financial report. Seems like you'll be busy at the music store today."
While Catherine was looking at the financial report, Alexander had glanced at a few pages.
Many figures were clearly abnormal. As a seasoned businessman, Alexander could spot the mistake at a glance, but he was surprised that Catherine also identified the biggest issues immediately!
Sometimes, Alexander felt that Catherine was too perfect, making him want to get closer the more he understood her.
Gabriel led Catherine to the violins, which were well-maintained, with the nephrite inlays glowing softly. "Ms. Windsor, these violins are very popular right now. Once we hold the auction, we'll make a substantial profit! Ms. Windsor, this one was hand-carved by Ryder. The nephrite is top quality, making it the most expensive violin we have! This violin's strings were personally tuned by Mr. Vincent Hall. You'll know it's a masterpiece as soon as you play it!"
The violin Catherine held had a lot of nephrite. Each delicate stroke unleashed a torrent of sound, a majestic symphony that echoed the advance of a mighty army.
'It is a good violin. But the problem is, how do I not know I have carved a violin? Not to mention Vincent personally tuning it. All of Vincent's violins have names, and I can recognize any of his works at a glance,' Catherine thought, her gaze cold as she looked at Gabriel. "You and Elijah, are you twins?"
"No, what he did at the gallery was too much. I had no idea!" Gabriel was clearly worried about being implicated.
Catherine's eyes showed a hint of contempt. "If you're not related, why do you act so similarly? Looks like you are going to jail together!"
