Chapter 104 What Strange Game Are You Playing in the Office

The operating room was dead quiet.

Everyone was on edge, shooting wary glances at Esme, who had just popped up out of nowhere.

Alexander had promised Catherine he'd keep things calm during the surgery.

He barely lifted his eyelids, but his eyes were ice-cold, and the murderous vibe was unmistakable as he glared at Esme and snapped, "Get out!"

Esme flinched at Alexander's harshness, wondering what had gotten into him.

"Alexander, Catherine's been playing you. She was just here at the hospital. She must've done something shady. Why else wouldn't she go to Bright Heal Hospital? My people saw her in the obstetrics department. She's probably having another man's baby! Don't let her fool you!" Esme was so desperate, tears starting to spill, terrified Alexander wouldn't believe her.

Annoyed by her racket, Alexander didn't want her causing a scene and messing things up for Catherine.

He raised his hand, his index finger twitching slightly.

Ethan, who had been squatting anxiously, suddenly stood up, radiating a deadly aura. He thought, 'Anyone who messes with my brother's surgery is dead meat!'

Esme recognized Ethan's face and was so scared she fell to the ground. "Alexander, this guy kidnapped me last time! He's bad news! How can you be with him?"

Alexander didn't even look at her, just turned to Ethan and said, "If she messes up the surgery, you know what to do."

Ethan walked towards Esme, his fists cracking, bones making scary sounds. He thought, 'I can't take on Alexander, but this random woman? Easy.'

"Idiot," Ethan muttered.

Esme scrambled back, her feet slipping on the floor in panic.

Ethan grabbed her, covered her mouth, and tossed her over his shoulder.

Alexander spoke coolly, "Keep her alive, don't break any limbs. The rest is up to you."

'How can he be so cold to me? Is this still the Alexander I like? He's so gentle with Catherine, but why is he so harsh with me?' Esme wondered.

Ethan, too worried about his brother to care about Esme, handed her off to his men and ordered, "Handle her. Don't let her mess up the surgery again."

"Yes, sir!"

A few assassins quickly dragged Esme away, her struggles useless.

'Am I done for?' Esme thought.

The operating room light went off, and Catherine stepped out, asking, "What just happened?"

Alexander's eyes softened when he saw her and he said gently, "Nothing, it's all sorted. How did it go? Are you tired?"

Ethan looked at Catherine, both hopeful and nervous.

"The surgery went well so far, but we need to watch for any post-op issues. Don't worry, I'll be here for the next two days," Catherine said, determined to see it through.

Ethan let out a sigh of relief, tears in his eyes, and he started praying on the spot. "That's amazing! This is wonderful!"

It was clear how much his brother meant to him.

Alexander's gaze was tender as he asked, "You've worked hard. Are you hungry? I ordered some food. Let's eat together."

Catherine nodded, gave some post-op care instructions, and followed Alexander out of the operating room.

"I know you're exhausted, so let's eat in the office for now," Alexander suggested.

"Anywhere's fine," Catherine replied.

Though tired from the surgery, she had heard the commotion outside. It hadn't been easy for Alexander to keep watch either. Dealing with the assassins from the dark web was no joke. His wrist still had fresh blood on it, a stark contrast to the bright red ruby cufflinks.

Catherine changed out of her white coat and pulled a box from her pocket, handing it to Alexander.

Alexander's eyes lit up with surprise. "A gift for me?"

"Yeah, if you don't want it, then forget it."

'This is the first time Catherine's given me something. No way I'm passing this up!' he thought.

Inside the box was a pair of stunning blue diamond cufflinks, low-key yet luxurious, shining brilliantly.

Alexander immediately recognized the tiny logo inside as the work of the famous jewelry designer Zenith. Zenith's pieces were rare and always sold for sky-high prices.

'I’ve never seen these cufflinks before! Does Catherine know Zenith? She’s full of surprises!' he thought.

"Thank you, I really like them."

His clothes were stained with blood, so he changed into a fresh set and extended his wrist to Catherine. "I used my hands a lot just now. I'm out of strength. Can you help me?"

Catherine looked at him, about to refuse, but then remembered how he had protected her. She picked up the cufflinks and helped him put them on.

Suddenly, the office door burst open.

George, panting heavily, had imagined all sorts of scenarios on his way here, almost scaring himself with his wild thoughts. "Catherine! What's wrong? No matter what it is, the Windsor family can handle it!"

"George? What are you doing here?" Catherine asked, shocked.

George looked at the two of them about to eat and was stunned. "Mr. Howard, what are you doing here?"

George immediately worried, thinking, 'Catherine better not be playing some weird game with Alexander. She's young! She can't be led astray by him!'

His mind raced with absurd images, and when he saw the white coat on the ground, he freaked out. "Catherine, what are you doing here? Tell me if you feel unwell."

"I'm here to visit a friend who just had brain surgery. George, why are you here?"

George pulled Catherine over, checking her carefully for injuries. Confirming she was fine, he still insisted, "Come back with me, we'll do a thorough check-up."

"George, I'm really fine, just here to see a friend. You're a doctor too, you'll see my friend's condition in a bit."

"Then why didn't you tell the family? I got a call from Esme saying you were sick. I was worried sick." George, finally relaxing, wished he could check Catherine inside and out.

Looking at the food on the desk, George scoffed. "Mr. Howard, are you really going to let Catherine eat this? Catherine, I'll take you to get something better later."

The food didn't look bad; George just didn't like Alexander right now.

Alexander wanted to explain but didn't want to spill too much.

He wasn't ready to share his and Catherine's secrets with the Windsor family just yet.

"By the way, where's Esme? She said a friend was sick in this hospital and wanted me to take a look. Why haven't I seen her?" George asked.

Alexander handed George a medical record.

After Esme was taken away, he had looked into why she was at the hospital.

It turned out to be because of the Smith family.

George jumped up from his chair and shouted, "Esme called me to see this jerk? He deserves to be sick!"
