Chapter 239 Partiality
Ezekiel was deep in thought, 'I've set up so much to keep Alexander from leaving. If he gets away today, it'll be even harder to handle him later!'
Alexander eyed Ezekiel with a cold, sinister grin. "You think you can keep me here with just your men? Not a chance."
Ezekiel tried to play it cool. "This is the Howard Family's party. Leaving now would be quite improper."
Alexander wasn't having it. "You might fool others with your schemes, but don't fool yourself."
Ezekiel's mind raced, thinking, 'Does Alexander know about all the people I've set up? I've invested so much to make sure he can't return to the Howard Group. No way he knows everything.'
Alexander snapped his fingers.
Seconds later, explosions rocked the estate, shaking chandeliers and crumbling walls. The nearest blast was just outside the banquet hall, where Ezekiel had stationed a dozen assassins.
Charles reached for Catherine, but she was already by Alexander's side. Alexander shielded her with his suit, protecting her.
Charles looked at his empty hand, feeling a mix of emotions. He thought, 'Seeing Alexander protect Catherine is nice, but why am I so jealous?'
Ezekiel was panicked, knowing the explosions were where his assassins were. Gritting his teeth, he thought, 'Alexander! You're ruthless!'
Alexander, half-holding Catherine, strode out of the banquet hall and got into a car. Charles followed, looking at Catherine with concern. "Catherine, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Catherine replied. This kind of scene didn't scare her, only the Windsor Family thought it would.
Charles frowned at Alexander. "Mr. Howard, don't bring Catherine to these events! It's too dangerous!"
Charles was shocked by Alexander's audacity to blow up Ezekiel's manor at the party. He was also worried about Catherine's safety.
"Mr. Howard, you can't risk Catherine's safety dealing with Howard Family matters. She's the apple of our eye. If anything happens to her, you can't afford it!"
Alexander's cold gaze met Charles's. "I'll guarantee Catherine's safety. No one can harm her with me around. If you want to protect Catherine, just know she's not fragile. Since returning to the Windsor Family, hasn't she faced enough danger?"
Charles knew all too well the threats Catherine had faced.
Catherine smiled gently at Charles. "I'm fine! Alexander told me about today's plan. I'm not afraid. I don't want to be a burden to the Windsor Family. I'm one of you, so don't worry about me."
Honestly, if Catherine wasn't worried about freaking out the Windsor Family, she could do way more than Charles could ever imagine.
Charles looked at Catherine's cute, beautiful face and her big, watery eyes, and his heart just melted. He felt even guiltier, thinking, "How can she be so kind and thoughtful? I'm really touched."
Charles ruffled Catherine's hair, trying to hold back his tears. "Sorry, Catherine! It's my fault. From now on, do whatever you want. I've got your back!"
"Thanks, Charles."
Annie, sitting in the driver's seat, waited for them to finish talking before speaking up, "Aren't Ms. Hughes and Mr. George Windsor still in Ezekiel's estate?"
The explosions were pre-planned, and Emilia and George weren't in the banquet hall when they went off. If they got hurt, it would be bad.
Charles waved it off. "It's fine, just a few bombs. If Catherine isn't scared, why should George be? Don't worry about him. Catherine's hungry; eating is more important!"
Annie thought, 'The Windsor Family is totally biased towards Catherine compared to the boys!'
Meanwhile, back at Ezekiel's estate, after the explosions, two mud-covered people crawled out of the flower bed.
George felt like his mouth was full of dirt, and his white shirt was now a muddy yellow. He spat out the dirt and took off his trench coat, covering Emilia's head with it. "You okay?"
"I'm fine, but you look like a mess."
George looked down and saw his shirt had several holes from flying debris, making him look like a beggar. Anyone who didn't know might think he was back at the border working as a Doctor Without Borders, dodging gunfire.
Emilia was well protected by him, so she was fine.
George quickly covered Emilia's eyes, turned her head away, and shook off the mud from his trench coat before putting it back on.
Emilia blinked. "You didn't have to worry about me! The Hughes Family used to have explosions all the time, so I'm used to it! How much is your shirt? I'll pay for it or buy you a new one!"
"Shut up." Emilia mentioning the shirt made George feel even more embarrassed! "I'm your doctor. I don't want you back in the hospital. Taking care of a stubborn patient is a headache for me."
Emilia didn't dare speak again, pulling George's sleeve as they crouched and moved to a small villa in the estate.
Ezekiel's estate was a series of townhouses, and most people were in the banquet hall now.
Emilia had already scouted the area. "This is where Ezekiel's staff resides. He prefers to keep them close by to prevent any potential betrayal, so Solon should be living here as well."
George glanced at Emilia's hand holding his sleeve, a slight smile on his lips.
Emilia paused by a door, leaning in to catch the heated argument inside.
"I don't care how you handle these two kids!"
"If you don't, I'll spill everything your sister did in the Windsor Family."
"Are you crazy?! If that gets out, none of us, not even Ezekiel, will survive!"
