Chapter 63 Good Girl
The dude on the other end of the line had no clue that his few words just blew up the whole crew's workload overnight.
"Girl, you're cold as ice, even snatching your fiancé's cash. Competing for gigs with him, is that your idea of a date?"
Catherine couldn't hold it in anymore and snapped, "Buzz off. I want the latest data on Reagent No. 3 by tomorrow morning."
A loud, dramatic scream echoed from the other end!
"Just 'cause we crashed your date, we gotta pull an all-nighter? That's savage!"
Worried the workload might pile up even more, Dubhe quickly hung up and blocked Catherine's number.
Alexander's grin widened, a deep chuckle rumbling from his chest, making him look even more irresistible.
"So, you dig this kind of dating? Then Shadow Syndicate will team up more with Faceless Ones to give us more 'date' nights," he teased.
'What the heck? This is dating?' Catherine shot him a confused look and said coolly, "Why'd you take the bid?"
"I'm not that generous. I don't want my fiancée treating other dudes."
"Your grandpa's a dude too," Catherine replied calmly.
Alexander was stumped.
"Doesn't that count? Next time, I'll tell Felix you said he's not a man," she said.
Alexander's smile vanished, his handsome face showing rare embarrassment, a hint of red creeping up his cheeks, making him look even more stunning.
Catherine's lips curled into a smug smile.
'This guy's so petty. I'm a doctor. Why should I care about my patients' gender? He just wants to stir things up!'
"How do you know Ethan's looking for Moon for a guy?" she asked.
Alexander took off his gold-rimmed glasses and handed them to Catherine. "Clean these for me. I can't see the road."
"Even fake glasses need cleaning? I think you see better without them."
"They're special," he said.
Catherine checked them out, tilting the lenses to reveal a thin data screen—a mini surveillance device!
This gadget was made by the Galactic Aurora Collective and sold for a fortune on the black market. She didn't expect Alexander to have one.
All the data from the Galactic Aurora Collective was her work, so seeing this device, Catherine got what Alexander was up to.
"You got surveillance on Ethan?" she asked.
"Aren't you doing the same? I told you, we always get each other."
Catherine was quiet for a moment, then pulled out a handkerchief, carefully cleaning the glasses before handing them back to Alexander, and said, "My people aren't spying on Ethan. They're looking for the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage."
Ethan had taken the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage, and the Galactic Aurora Collective had been tracking them.
Alexander enjoyed watching her clean his glasses. In the night, she slightly lowered her head, her eyelashes casting shadows over her star-like eyes, giving him more time to admire her.
Thinking that such a serene and elegant demeanor was for him, Alexander's heart softened, feeling warmth he hadn't felt in a long time.
'That's Catherine's magic, always making me want to be close to her.'
He put on his glasses, driving the car back towards the city.
"My people got close to Ethan. The one captured with Eli is Ethan's brother. Ethan's got another brother with a terminal illness, which is why he's been desperately searching for Phantom Doctor Moon," Alexander said.
"Yeah, Ethan approached Eli pretending to make money in Stellara, but he was really after the Dream grass Eli had. I've analyzed the components of Dream grass; it does have medicinal properties for some cancers."
"So, he won't back down easy. Watch your back these next few days," he said.
Catherine nodded. She always had her crew with her, making it tough for Ethan's people to get close.
"So, let me be your chauffeur for now; otherwise, I won't chill," he suggested.
Catherine stayed quiet. 'Lately, I've been juggling time with my brothers, video chatting with Richard who's filming out of town, and Juniper who's deep in experiments. When I get a break, I hit up Bright Heal Hospital to play chess with Marcus and his buddies. Do I really need him driving me around?'
"You still don't have your driver's license. Let me be your personal driver, okay?"
Catherine shot him a faint look and said, "If you love driving so much, why not sign up as a driver and make some extra cash?"
"You're already planning my side hustle? So thoughtful! Don't worry, I'm pretty good at making money. I won't let you starve. The Moon gig I just took will be your consultation fee. If you need cash for Felix's meds, just hit me up, okay?" Alexander said.
Catherine was speechless. 'Is that what I meant?'
"If you run into any trouble, remember to reach me, okay?"
'Would I even have time to reach him if I were in real danger?'
Alexander drove down a narrow path and stopped under a dim streetlight. He suddenly leaned in, placing one hand on the car window beside Catherine, looking at her with intense pressure.
"Catherine, I know you've always been super independent and capable. You're not like other girls. But now you have a family. If possible, I hope you can trust me. What the Windsor family can give you, I can give you too. What the Windsor family can't give you, I still can."
His voice was deep and seductive, like a siren's song.
"For example, I can offer you my embrace and my back."
Catherine's eyes widened slightly, her long eyelashes trembling.
They were both assassins, knowing that showing your back was reserved for the most trusted partner in life and death!
"So, try to trust me, rely on me, and think of me, even just a little. When you need it, let me come to pick you up, okay?"
His tone was a mix of hurt and pleading, making Catherine's heart soften.
"Okay, I get it."
Alexander smiled and patted her head, his hand warm and slightly damp.
'Only I know how nervous I was facing Catherine so closely just now. If I wasn't afraid of scaring her, I would've done something more. But not now. She's still too young and would be freaked out by me.'
Alexander didn't hesitate to praise her, "Good girl."

Bright Heal Hospital in Imperia City
In Lila's hospital room, Aurora looked at the dozing Lila, quietly shifting her feet after standing for two hours.
She got called over early in the morning, without a word, just to stand here! Whenever Lila was in a bad mood, she tormented her like this, and Aurora had kinda gotten used to it.
"Aurora, when did you get here? Did I ask you to come?" Lila asked.
Aurora was puzzled. 'This is new.'
"Lila, you called me early in the morning, saying you wanted porridge from home, so I brought it to you."
The porridge was placed by Lila's side, emitting a rich aroma that made one's mouth water.
Lila's expression was somewhat confused, completely forgetting that she had called Aurora over.
"Oh, bring it to me."
Aurora held the porridge, ready to feed Lila.
But Lila suddenly reached out, knocking the bowl out of Aurora's hand!
"Get out! You're trying to poison me! I'm calling the cops!"
