Chapter101 Kneeling
Seeing Darcy so distressed, Eula spoke up.
"Elbert Hicks, could you please help my friend? Estelle is such a beautiful and lovely child, and if a suitable bone marrow donor isn't found, she has only six months left."
Her eyes reddened as she spoke.
Elbert picked up his cup and took a sip of tea. "I'm sorry, but this is really something you need to handle on your own."
His refusal was clear. Darcy stood up, bowing to him.
"Elbert Hicks, sorry to have bothered you."
She walked out, looking utterly defeated. Eula quickly stood and followed closely, casting a fleeting glance towards Elbert.
"Darcy, we'll find another way," she reassured.
Once outside Elbert's apartment, Darcy leaned on Eula and wept.
"I thought there was hope for Estelle. Now, I just don't know what to do."
Eula was angry too, but they couldn't force Elbert to undergo the surgery. She felt helpless.
"Darcy, the hospital is also searching for a donor. There are so many people in the world; there's bound to be a suitable match out there."
After some thought, she suggested, “Maybe try reaching out to Estelle’s dad again, or his relatives. Blood relatives might have a better chance.”
Darcy wiped away her tears, knowing that this kind of thing couldn’t be forced.
“Okay, I’ll get in touch with them soon.”
She was no stranger to begging, having done it more than once, so doing it again didn't faze her.
They left the apartment with the river view behind.
Elbert Hicks called Judson. There was a lengthy wait before the call connected.
“What is it?” Judson's voice came cold and laced with irritation.
Elbert chuckled, “What’s wrong? Bad mood without your secretary keeping you company?”
Hugo had told him that Judson had moved Eula into the company, right into his office. He could see that woman every day now, his personal secretary.
Judson was in his car with Kristina sitting beside him, doused in so much perfume it was suffocating.
“Spit it out.”
His annoyance with the overwhelming scent was taken out on Elbert.
Elbert's long-standing camaraderie allowed him to brush off the attitude easily.
“Judson, guess who just dropped by my place?”
Judson, entirely uninterested, responded coldly.
“Gotta go, I’m busy.”
“Hold on, it was Eula who came over.”
After saying that, Elbert went silent on purpose, and yet Judson didn’t hang up. Elbert couldn't help but laugh.
“Ha... I thought you were busy. Go ahead, we can chat after you’re done.”
Judson’s face turned stern, forcing out the words.
“I’m not busy anymore. Just happens I can talk now.”
Elbert burst out laughing. Only Eula could make Judson backtrack that quickly.
“Speak.”
Judson was clearly impatient, eager to get to the point.
“She and her friend came to ask for a bone marrow donation.”
Judson frowned, “Bone marrow?”
Elbert would naturally disagree. With his current identity, he couldn’t afford the slightest injury, especially considering his high-risk job which demanded peak physical fitness at all times.
“Yeah, it’s her friend, goes by Darcy, for her daughter. The woman seemed pretty desperate. Damn, I almost agreed.”
Judson acknowledged with a grunt, “Hmm, I see. Gotta hang up now.”
The car pulled up into the parking area of the Nash family’s old mansion. Judson and Kristina entered the main building, where Grandpa rolled his eyes at the sight of them.
Grandma Nash exclaimed in shock, “John, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell again?”
