Chapter 75 The Workplace

Seeing Eula gaping in shock, the manager patted her shoulder encouragingly. "Work hard, Eula! There's also a year-end bonus. If you keep Judson satisfied, you might even get a bonus in the tens of thousands."

Eula was stunned yet again. Finally, she could give her child a better life.

When she regained her senses, she resolved that no matter what was asked of her, she'd endure it. Although Judson was a penny-pincher, he was good to his employees.

Eula returned home with snacks and gourmet ingredients in hand. Mary, taking the items from her, gasped in surprise. "Eula, all these ingredients you bought today are imported and must've been quite pricey, right?"

She'd also bought an assortment of snacks, which was unusual for her, as she normally pinched pennies so tightly that she would think twice before spending even a little extra on fruit. What had gotten into her today?

Eula and Mary worked together to stash the groceries away—some in the fridge, others in storage bins. Eula was beaming with joy.

"Mary, I landed a job, and the pay's really good. We're going to have a more comfortable life from now on."

Now she could afford that Barbie doll Angie had been eyeing, the drones her brothers wanted, and even the new computer they'd been asking for.
Right then, the doorbell rang, and Mary went to answer it.

Melissa stood at the doorstep, draped in a fur coat, clutching the latest designer handbag, casting a dismissive glance at Mary.

"Does Eula live here?"

Mary couldn't help but gawk. Talk about flashy—wasn't she worried about attracting thieves?

"I'm talking to you. Answer me."

Melissa noticed Mary's staring, surely an envious gaze.

With a hint of disdain, she never cared much for small talk, especially with such average folks.

Mary didn't like this woman's vibe. She had a hunch that whatever brought her to Eula's doorstep wasn't good news.

So, with a frosty tone, Mary lied, "There's no one here by that name," and gave her a firm push, shutting the door in her face.

Enraged, Melissa protested, "I know she lives here, open up!" She started banging on the wooden door, causing a commotion that drew the neighbors' attention.

Mary reported back to Eula inside the house.

"Some overdressed woman is at the door looking for you. I didn't get a good feeling from her, so I left her outside."

Eula got to her feet. "Who is it?"

She then made her way out, passing through the courtyard toward the front gate.

Hearing Melissa's curses, Eula glanced back. She grabbed a small bucket, filled it halfway with water, and as she flung the door open, she doused the visitor.

Instantly, cries of shock rang out, "Aah... Eula, what are you doing?"

Melissa was drenched, her carefully styled hair ruined, makeup smeared, clothes soaked, and she shivered from the cold.

Eula gripped the bucket tightly, confronting the person at her door.

"Aunt Brewer, what are you doing here? I thought you were someone causing trouble."

She put the bucket down and stepped outside.

"My place is too small for someone of your stature. You'd better head back and change. It's cold out; wouldn't want you to catch a chill."

After several sneezes, Melissa glared at Eula. 'I came here with good intentions; you'll see.

With that, she broke into tears and started causing a scene. "Everybody, come and see! Eula! Eighteen and pregnant without even knowing who the father is. She's vile. Everyone be careful; she's no good."
