Chapter 209 Something Has Happened

The two socialites, who had entered the room together, shared a glance, their eyes filled with a touch of pity. Eula, once a prominent figure in their circle, had fallen from grace, her fate taking an unexpected turn. In their gaze, sympathy for Eula was evident. Suddenly, Claire, one of the women, gently tugged at the fabric of her companion, Zoey's attire. "Zoey, isn't that the necklace your brother showed you in a photograph?" Claire's words caught Zoey's attention. She turned to look at the necklace, and her eyes widened in surprise. "Yes, it is. My brother said it was sold at a high price," Zoey confirmed. Claire was taken aback, "Then she..." Realizing that Eula's status was not as ordinary as they had assumed, the two women no longer dared to look at her with pity.

Upon hearing Kristina's words, Eula responded with a calm demeanor, "Kristina, I'm sorry. I only serve Mr. Nash." She then walked to the table, selected a few dishes, tasted them herself, and only offered the ones she found palatable to Judson. Judson, naturally, did not refuse, but Kristina, who was observing from a distance, grew increasingly displeased. Eula, however, was indifferent. She was here to earn her keep. In the lounge, the woman in the stunning purple dress moved with grace, her figure and beauty capturing everyone's attention. Suddenly, a waiter entered the room carrying two boxes. "Mr. Nash, someone has sent you an engagement gift," he announced. Eula, seated at the table, continued to sample the dishes, content with her role. Judson glanced at the two boxes, unsure of the sender, and instructed, "Open them." Upon opening the boxes, the waiter revealed a collection of half-used candles. Kristina's eyes widened in fury. "Who sent these?" she demanded. It was their special day, and while it wasn't a grand wedding, an engagement was still a cause for celebration. Judson, however, was unperturbed. Given his status, it was only natural that there would be those who wished to undermine him. Half-used candles were of no consequence to him. Kristina, on the contrary, was far from pleased. "Judson, we must find out who did this. How can we tolerate such an ominous thing on our happy day?" The guests in the lounge were taken aback, but Hugo and Elbert, accustomed to grand events, paid little heed to this minor incident. Eula, upon seeing the half-used candles, raised an eyebrow and continued to taste the next dish. She surmised that a man like Judson, in the midst of celebration, would naturally attract envy, which was likely why someone had sent these to dampen his spirits. She couldn't help but feel a sense of injustice on Judson's behalf. "Why panic?" Judson said calmly, "Not receiving a bomb is already a stroke of luck." At the mention of the word "bomb," Kristina, her two cousins, and the two socialites recoiled, a flicker of fear evident in their eyes. Eula pursed her lips. "Is someone really going to send a bomb?" She had never imagined that being with Judson would involve such risks. Judson raised an eyebrow. "To be with me, you must endure these trials. If you can't handle it, you can choose to call off the engagement." Eula looked at Kristina, who was already pale with fear, and felt that her decision to come here today was not a mistake. She hadn’t anticipated such a spectacle. She couldn't exact revenge herself, but witnessing her adversaries in fear was a satisfying sight. Kristina stammered, "Judson, that's not what I meant. I didn't expect this." Judson lit a cigarette, the faint flame flickering. He took a deep drag and then exhaled a cloud of smoke. "Throw them away," he commanded, his voice devoid of any emotion. Eula's phone rang, interrupting the tense atmosphere. She answered. "Mary." "Eula, something has happened. A group of people broke into the house and took Angie away. They're demanding a ransom from you."
