Chapter99 Darcy's Hope
Eula shook her head, dismissing the idea with a flicker of annoyance, "He just likes to tease me."
Just the thought of Judson made her angry. Was there ever a day he didn't torment her?
She realized why he had hired her as his secretary—it must be because he thought she was easy to push around, providing some entertainment to his otherwise dull life.
Watching her pout, Darcy figured she must be jealous, but the stubborn girl would never admit it.
With a sigh, she wrapped her arm around Eula as they exited the elevator.
"Eula, sometimes when a guy teases someone a lot, it means he likes her. Think about it—how does he act around others compared to you? Isn't it a bit different?"
Eula pondered for a moment; he was usually so detached and cold to others, but towards her?
Well, sometimes he would smile, though mostly in mockery.
She sighed, "I don't want to think about it. It's pointless who he likes. His grandfather wants him to marry Kristina. The old man's sick, and he wouldn't dare defy him. As soon as he's involved with Kristina, she's my enemy."
As she thought this, she secretly vowed to herself that even if they were enemies, she'd make her money, and plenty more.
Darcy shook her head, "Alright, let's just see how it goes."
How could Judson ever marry someone he didn't love? Even if Grandpa Nash pressured him, he wouldn't just cave in so easily. Someone so influential in the business world wouldn't be swayed that easily.
Darcy didn't buy it for a second—soon enough, that silly girl Eula would be his.
They got into an uber, and Eula overheard Darcy give the address for Riverside Apartments; she couldn't help but ask.
"Are you going to see a friend? Would it be inconvenient if I came along?"
It dawned on Eula that tagging along with Darcy might interfere with her love life.
If Darcy could land a good man and get married, her future would be set.
After all, now that Estelle could have surgery and hopefully recover, Darcy would be able to live her own life.
Gazing out the window, Darcy said softly, "No worries, I'm meeting the person who's a match for Estelle, to ask him to come to the hospital, so she can have her surgery sooner."
Eula's eyes lit up. "I thought he was in the military? He's back?"
This was a great relief, considering their earlier concerns about him not getting leave. Military schedules weren't exactly flexible.
Darcy smiled, "Yeah, I think I've been pretty lucky."
If it meant Estelle could get well, there was nothing she wouldn't do.
Eula leaned against her shoulder, her eyes brimming with happiness.
"That's amazing."
An hour later, the car pulled up in front of Riverside Apartments, and they stepped out.
Darcy checked her phone for the apartment number, "He's on the 18th floor."
It was uncertain if he would be home at this hour, but it was worth a shot. If he wasn't, they would wait. He had to come back eventually.
After registering their ID information, they gained entry to the apartment building, made their way to the 18th floor, and found apartment 1802.
Taking a deep breath, Darcy whispered with a tremor in her voice, “Eula, I’m a little nervous. What if he refuses?”
Though this guy was their beacon of hope, if he wasn’t willing, they couldn’t force him.
Eula rang the doorbell. As they waited, she said,, “If he agreed to be part of the bone marrow registry, he must be open to donation.”
Shortly after, the door was opened by a young woman.
“Who are you looking for?” she asked, seeing the visitors at the door.
