Chapter 74 Good Fortune
Eula remained in the kitchen after he left, zoning out for a while. She convinced herself that if Judson was offering a favor, it was only to keep an eye on her.
With that weight off her shoulders, she reckoned that even an entry-level role at The Nash Group would mean a higher salary than she'd get elsewhere.
She had heard that the company offered excellent benefits; the cafeteria served buffet-style lunch with desserts, fruits, and ice cream.
Eula got up, returned to her room, and took a shower to wash off yesterday's sweat from taking care of him.
After her shower, she felt refreshed and picked out some formal attire, then applied light makeup. It was basic etiquette, something she was compelled to follow.
Because it was his company, she felt uncomfortable driving there.
The car was his after all, and since the interview was her personal affair, using it seemed inappropriate.
Just the thought of him being miserly made her seethe.
Eula arrived around ten at The Nash Group and was impressed by the grandeur of the lobby. She approached the reception to announce her interview, then was escorted by security to the HR department on the fifth floor.
The manager was a middle-aged man who, after reviewing her resume, said, "Eula, you're hired. You can start the onboarding process right away."
She had been in contact with the HR manager prior to her arrival, and given Judson's referral, he was prepared to hire her immediately.
Eula was guided through the onboarding by the HR personnel, which took several hours. It was only after everything was done that she realized she hadn't even asked about her position!
She turned to the young woman who had helped her with the paperwork and asked, "Could you tell me what position I've been hired for?"
She felt a little self-deprecating—so desperate for a job that she'd go through the hiring process without even asking what it was.
The girl was astonished, and after a few seconds, she checked the documents. "You're the Executive Assistant to the CEO," she revealed. Then, her eyes widening even more as she took another scrutinizing look at Eula. With just a high school diploma, how could Eula qualify to be the CEO's Executive Assistant?
Eula was taken aback herself. "What?" The CEO's Executive Assistant? Was she just going to serve Judson coffee and clean his office again?
"Yeah, you're really lucky," the girl confirmed with a nod, rolling her eyes with a hint of dissatisfaction.
"Don't be late, clock in before 8 a.m. tomorrow," she instructed and then walked back to her desk, leaving Eula standing there, feeling somewhat off-kilter.
But Eula could hardly care; having a job was all that mattered.
Just then, the manager stepped out, saw Eula still standing there, and greeted her with an amiable smile. "Welcome to the company, Eula."
Finding the manager to be quite genial, Eula approached him with a question, "How much does the Executive Assistant to the CEO make, if you don't mind me asking?"
With a smile, the manager said, "It's a special position, potentially on call 24/7, so the salary is quite high—$30,000 a month."
$30,000 a month? It was so much more than she expected!
